Veggie Chinese Mabo-tofu
Brown rice topped with spicy sauce, veggie meat and fluffy tofu + miso soup + Korean style salad + deli (mushrooms, beansprouts, eggplant, radish). Everything was nicely seasoned. I actually like my rice more salty than plain, so I was pleasantly surprised. Mabo really good, sweet and spicy.
The fried soy meat plate
Browned rice + miso soup + 3 assorted deli (quinoa, eggplant, mushrooms). Very good portion for the price. Soy meat juicy and crispy, slightly on a salty side but still delicious.
We've also ordered Soy meat fry with Korean soy sauce, because we thought it would be different than the one from soy meat plate. It was the same. We didn't mind ending up with double portion, as it was really good. The sets are well balanced, so be careful if you want to order additional things, as we nearly exploded!

The atmosphere here is a unique charm in itself, with a wonderfully weathered and old-school feel. The staff is incredibly friendly, adding to the welcoming vibe.
What I ate:
- The fried soy meat plate w/ three assorted deli brown rice miso soup
The three assorted deli seemed to be pickled radish, pickled cabbage and eggplant in a sweet and spicy sauce. Trust me, these were pure magic, especially when paired with the brown rice. The flavors danced together beautifully.
On the flip side, the Miso soup was on the lighter side, lacking a punch in terms of ingredients.
But let's talk about the Karaage—it deserves a standing ovation. Topped with grated daikon radish and served alongside a fresh salad, this might just be the best fried soy meat I've ever laid my taste buds on. This was probably the closest to fried Chicken, nailing it in terms of texture, taste, and aroma.
Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're on the hunt for authentic Karaage, and it's a great way to experience the less touristy side of Shibuya.

Mom and pop vegan restaurant that offerS yummy vegan comfort food. I had their vegan karaage set with all the sides and banana caramel cake. Bonus: quiet side of Shibuya. This is a good place to visit.

I tried the fried soy meat dinner special tonight which came with a miso style soup, brown rice and an assortment plate of sides, sort of like a Korean banchan. It was a decent amount of food for the price. I would just say that while the fried soy meat was delicious and I did finish every bite, it was a bit saltier than I prefer. The restaurant space is a bit small in customary Tokyo fashion. But, the staff was really nice.

Had a large plate full of food from their deli counter accompanied by some sticky rice, soup and a mushroom dish. Lovely chocolate cake to finish. Wherever you are in Tokyo it is worth the visit to this restaurant near the centre of Shibuya

I really wanted to like this place but I couldn't believe how salty the food was when I went. I don't usually find food to be overly salty but my lips were puckering after eating the karaage lunch set.

I probably wouldn't visit again just from this experience and knowing that there's loads of other vegan places in Tokyo to try.

I went 2 months ago and ordered the karaage plate as well and it was like you said, totally overly salty!! I thought it was an error (maybe putting salt twice the quantity by mistake ?) and didn't say anything to the staff, but now I can see it didn't happen to me only !!

The lunch set is honestly really big for a super affordable price and all of it was delicious. It came with fried soy meat, salad, brown rice, soup, and Japanese pickles. I was a big fan of the karaage especially. Even the rice was well seasoned and good to eat on its own!

Favorite vegan place in Tokyo so far, for a lunch set and nice beverage it was around 1600 yen. Cozy spot in a quiet neighborhood walking distance from Shibuya. Only tried the recommended set so far (the fried soy, which was seasoned to perfection in a way similar to Taiwanese salt/pepper fried chicken) but will definitely go back many times and try everything. You can also get takeout and homemade cookies there.

Nagi Shokudo is one of the best vegan restaurants in town! I paid a visit for lunch in December right before the Christmas, and was relieved that they hadn't yet closed for the holidays.
Read moreThe restaurant itself is kept quite hidden as it is lower than street level. You just need to look out for the signage they put out to guide customers to the proper spot. The cafe has small individual tables as well as an elevated Japanese mat seating. You can also see into the kitchen to see your food being prepared.
Their lunch sets go for ¥1200 and are quite creative. I went with their winter exclusive Bean Curd Soup Set which comes with brown rice and a variety of side dishes, some of which were really tasty! The creamy kombu broth was excellent and was literally a heart warming meal.
I also ordered a side of their Korean Soy Karaage (¥800), since I was feeling spicy. A lot of vegan restaurants offer soy karaage and what they prepared here was just as good as anywhere else. I didn't quite get 'Korean' from their karaage as I was expecting some kind of gochujang sauce that they'd toss with the soy meat. Alas, it was still good.
Definitely stuffed after the meal so no desserts for me this time. However, this was an incredible lunch and I would definitely come back the next time I'm in town.

Hi there! They might have an online social media page that you can message and ask. Based on what I had, they can easily sub out pungent roots. It’s common in East Asian vegan cuisine to leave these out or have a menu without that, so you shouldn’t have any issues. Good luck!
