Thai style vegetarian

Great little Thai style vegetarian spot located in central Taichung city. Several curry dishes and sets, and some really good mock meat, tofu, and veggie side dishes! Friendly staff, it’s a 1-2 person staff so it can take a bit longer if it’s busy. Also no English menu, but not a big deal.

Authentic spices

I was only the second customer during lunch on a Wednesday. Piano arrangements of Disney movie theme songs were playing a little too loudly. Even though the place was essentially empty, the staff told me he didn’t have time to sit around and answer my questions about the menu. He told me just to mark the items I wanted on the paper copy and bring it back to him when I’d finished. Good thing the main dishes are clearly marked: most of them are vegan. Only the ones that say 奶素 next to them are lacto-vegetarian. In case you’re curious, under the rice dishes section, 五穀飯 just means “five-grain rice.” Healthy! I opted for the green curry ramen (綠咖哩拉麵) since I wanted something spicy (and it had a decent level of spice, especially for Taiwan). It came with a little side of shredded pickled daikon radish and a glass of honey lemonade, which I sent back. At least they have complimentary unsweetened green tea as an option in the back of the restaurant. On the right side of the menu, only the items that have the word 奶 next to them or in the name are lacto-vegetarian. I tried the Thai-style fried chick’n (泰式炸G), which was done up well and came with a calamansi to squeeze over it. It is a little bit pricey for Taiwan, but non-Taiwanese food often comes at a premium. And they really used galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and lemongrass in the green curry! So this is a good place to go sometimes when your wallet is feeling a little heavy.

Pros: great flavors, mostly vegan

Cons: pricey, serves honey without warning
