Vegan paradise!

Everything about our experience was brilliant from the moment we walked in the door. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout, our burgers were delicious (I had the gluten-free bun) and the loaded cheesy fries were honestly the DREAMIEST! I've been longing for more of them ever since we left ..! Kudos to the incredible chefs.

We had the 'I love Ewe' cocktail and the 'Piers Morgan's tears' cocktail (a must!). Both were great!

They even brought out a birthday brownie for my friend's 40th birthday weekend... such a lovely touch! On top of everything the vibe of the restaurant is effortlessly cool and just a lovely place to be.

Special thanks to all the hard-working staff there! Also thanks to the legend that is Ed Winters.

Understaffed Vegan 🌱 junk food & dodgy looped dance music but a worthy cause.

Earthling Ed is an important vegan debater and writer. He listens to meat eaters and doesn’t judge them but rather calmly debates brilliantly about why meat is murder.

The original site for UD was in Shoreditch and I was a regular. This one looks like they took over a failed restaurant as the interior has no coherence.

Paco (lovely server) was running all over the place as they had a promotion by some mock meat producer and no staff.

Without Paco it would have been a dreadful experience and when he’s not on duty I’m sure it is unfortunately.

Junk food was ok.

Pros: Vegan fast food , Worthy cause , The future is vegan

Cons: Dreadful annoying music (why?) , Mish mash interior but may have been cheaper , Don’t feel great after junk food

Iconic

Unity diner is just amazing. So many different options that you cannot find anywhere else. They have a bit of everything. I used to eat and love Calamari so seeing a vegan option I had to try it, was blown away with how realistic and tasty it was.

Pros: Vegan establishment with good cause

One of best vegan food

First of all I like the location and the gigantic light that say "future is vegan".
The menu contains lots of options. I think is the right amount. I tried the tofish which is their signature so don't miss it. I also tried the salmon which was amazing. As an end I tried the salted caramel cake that was good too. I really raccomend. Unfortunately I stayed only from Sunday to Tuesday and they are closed Sunday and Monday, otherwise I think I will eat there twice. The staff was also super friendly. Love them #Veganuary

Pros: Delicious food , Super friendly staff

Cons: Not so cheap

Fantastic!

Visited here last summer on a trip to London. Loved it! Some intriguing menu options- all of which were delicious. Drinks were good also. Not too pricey either which is a treat in the capital!

Pros: I don’t live nearby

Cons: Brilliant food and ethos , Good value, Comfortable atmosphere

Another Level

Wow, this place is next level! The Tofish & Chips are excellent. Also had the Tofish sandwich, which was also great (loved the red cabbage on it!)

Yummy Tofish & Chips

The Tofish & Chips was amazing, never tasted something so similar to fish since turning vegan, it was a bit sickening at the end, couldn’t finish it all. The mushy peas were cold so didn’t really enjoyed that. The salted caramel cake was really nice and fresh but very heavy and sweet. Overall, it was a lovely experience and I would recommend it. #Veganuary

Pros: All vegan , Friendly and attentive staff , Dog friendly & food options

Cons: Pricey

One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at (and there have been many!)

The food was wonderful, the starter, the salad, the main and the dessert. The chikn salad was superb, tasty, texturey (I made that up!) and a good size. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s great to be able to eat somewhere that has vegan animal rights ethics at its core. The only downsides are the lack of added/refined sugar desserts and the cost which some might find prohibitive. My friend and I shared a starter, two meals , two sides, one dessert and two hot drinks for which we paid £65, given the quality, the organic produce, the probably astronomical rent and the non profit intent I reckon the price is fair. I seriously look forward to trying the other stuff on the menu.

Additional info from Dec 2022 at new location.
Unity is still run by friendly overworked staff! The menu is stuffed full of things with lots of condiments, sauces etc so yes its very tasty but.... We manged to go on a very busy night and in total 5 of the menu items we tried to order were unavailable which is a sign of popularity and management failure. The desserts are great but too rich and sugary to be deemed healthy by any perspective! There were no salads on the menu but multiple varaitions on chips maybe this is not the best advert for veganism as the future?

Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, Easy to find

The best tofish

I’ve tried tofish & chips a fair few times and this one was spot on for me, in both appearance and taste. My partner enjoyed his burger and loaded fries, but particularly delighted in being able to order a cocktail named ‘Piers Morgan’s tears’. Admittedly we both had horrendous stomach ache after eating here but I’m 95% sure it’s because we ordered far too much lol

Very charming waiter, if you’re into that sort of thing

Food is super yum and all the money goes to animal sanctuaries so you can feel super good about yourself while chowing down on some yummy vegan prawns.

Great selection

Lots of choice, all very tasty. To start had (all vegan) calamari, Brussel sprouts, salmon, and cauliflower cheese - all good but sprouts the best! Best vegan fish & chips we’ve had. My roast (seasonal) was good, but would try something else next time. Our non-vegan friend enjoyed all the appetisers and his burger. Limited drinks menu but easy. Had the chocolate salted caramel cake for dessert and was happy to be sharing it with 3 people - delicious but rich. Can’t wait to go back!

Pros: Every dish we had was very good., Reasonably priced (for London), Good vibe

The OG Vegan Place

I've been to this place several times including for Christmas meals and eating from their stall at The Big Vegan Camp Out 2022 - the staff are always so lovely, I don't know how they find them and the food is always evolving and so, so delicious. It's a great place to try new cutting edge vegan ingredients, such as Tindle when it first launched, I just love this place and I think the prices are pretty reasonable all things considered - especially as a lot of the money is reinvested into promoting veganism and saving animals, fantastic :)

The tofish and chips are amazing

Tofish and chips blew my mind a little bit, totally see why it's won awards! Quite a lot of the menu was unavailable when we went but honestly most things on offer looked great, so not much of an issue. Nice vibe and great ethical goals.

Pros: All vegan, Incredible food, Good portion sizes

Cons: Staff could be more attentive

Nice atmosphere

Wanted to try tofish burger but wasn’t available that day. The menus in general weren’t the most tasty vegan food I have had, but just becuse of the nice theme of the restaurant, I enjoyed it.

Vegan comfort food

The menu here is fully vegan and has lots to choose from. There are the usual vegan versions of fast food, but also other dishes with a vegan spin. There's even a dog menu if you're with your pet. The place was busy when we arrived but the greeter juggled some things around and found us a table. Couldn't fault the service; quick and friendly and the food came out fast too. I opted for the vegan dawg and the cheesy chips and they were both very good. My (non-vegan) boyfriend had the Beyond Meat burger with chips and was impressed with it too. The only negative is that the tables are quite close together so it can be a bit loud!

Is this place hyped? For sure, but it's definitely worth a visit. The food and the staff were great and we will return to try some other dishes.

Pros: Fully vegan menu, Dog friendly , Welcoming staff

Cons: Little bit cramped

Don't get the hype

I brought colleagues here for a work lunch after seeing all the great reviews and the team was a tad disappointed. Half the menu items weren't available, my colleagues ended up getting a chicken sandwich and I had the tofu fish and chips. The plates were okay, wouldn't really recommend either of them. Other menu options looked great so maybe we were just unlucky with the day.

Some hits and misses

I was really keen to visit here due to the sanctuary and owner. As such, I was happy to support the business. Some of the food was pretty good, their fish and chips was a decent attempt and the cheesy chips were very tasty. Personally I found the calimari and tempeh didn’t really hit the flavour mark for me. Also, the food was quite dear for what is essentially take away, but as long as that goes to help their cause then that makes up for it .

Pros: Friendly staff , Cheesy fries were a hit

Cons: Expensive , Some dishes were not the best tasting

Good atmosphere but slightly overated

I've been looking forward to going to unity diner ever since I became vegan and its been somewhere that I've admired and wanted to go for ages.

The food was good and still tasty, drinks were lovely and staff were great. I was expecting out of this world vegan food that I wouldn't be able to have anywhere else, and don't get me wrong the food was lovely but it wasn't as good I had hoped and very similar to what you can get at other vegan establishments

Earthling Ed brought me here :)

Was there for the first time to try the Fish n Chips and Calamari.
It was fantastic! I liked the fact that they used Nori leaves to make the taste more authentic and "fishy".

All in all it was a nice experience. Id highly recommend this place.
Oh and the drinks are super good too!

Pros: Tasty Vegan Food, Cool Service Personnel, Good Selecetion

Cons: Nothing to dislike here :)

Too unhealthy

I admire Earthling Ed as much as everyone else on Happy Cow (I assume) but there's no way he stays that skinny while eating here!

The menu is junk food only and while it tastes fine, it's just too much quantity and too low quality. The oily emanations from the kitchen are also a bit overwhelming.
So I wouldn't go back.

However the crowd disagrees with me as it was packed every time I went past.

Vegan for the animals

I loved going to Unity Diner knowing that the owner(s) are vegan for the animals as that’s not the case with every vegan restaurant. The food is mainly junk food, but it is amazing! We just tried the burgers this time but I’d love to try more things next time. Unity Diner was full when we went so we had to wait a bit to get a table. It’s a popular & energetic place with really good menu & food. I hope the place inspires more people to eat vegan.

Pros: Is vegan for the animals, Tasty food, Beautiful restaurant

Celebrating veganism

Some restaurants owe their fame to a successful chef or a showbiz celebrity. For many vegans, that means nothing. What have they done to change the world? But when famous vegan advocate Earthling Ed opens a restaurant, that makes it instantly famous!

And it shows, because on a Friday night the place was packed with people waiting for a table. And the restaurant is buzzing. It's lively, it's loud and it's energetic! This is not the place to go on a romantic date or to enjoy a quiet evening of meaningful conversation.

The menu mainly has junk food on it like burgers, fries, nachos, fish & chips and more. I went for the healthiest option on the menu: a "Chikken Kale Ceasar Salad" with the optional facon (fake bacon) bits on top. Despite the place being packed, the order was served reasonably quickly.

The fake meats looks suspiciously real, but knowing who's behind this restaurant I dared to take a bite anyway. And I must say: even though a Ceasar salad is a pretty simple dish, Unity Diner makes the absolute best out of it. The ingredients seem to be of pretty good quality and everything from the dressing to the presentation is excellent. Also, it's a generous portion.

So, what to think of Unity Diner? Well, it's certainly not vegan food at its best, like some vegan haute cuisine restaurants serve. Instead Earthling Ed and Unity Diner show how easy it is to eat vegan food. Unity Diner is a place to sit, chat with strangers and celebrate veganism.

Pros: unique vegan vibe, tasty food!

Cons: 12.5% service charge, not the best place for healthy food, card only (no cash)
