The Road Less Travelled

Having discovered that Arthur’s Seat is at the top of a mountain and not in a quaint park in the middle of Edinburgh, we came back down the much easier, softer way than we had ascended. This led past Holyrood House onto Holyrood Road and past The Pakora. Awesome value, my Moonji Dahl with rice was just £9, compared to my omnivores’ £17 for their meal (which I gloated over!). Service was excellent and lovely background music completed the ambience. Highly recommended.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, My dhal was first class, Service was excellent

Cons: No cons!

Wonderful authentic Indian food

We came upon this place by accident having descended from Arthur's seat. As lovers of Indian food we had to give it a try. A massive bonus is that we were able to have our dogs with us in the outside dining area and were also given a bowl of water for the dogs👍. A good start but things got much better. We took 3 courses and everything was vegan or vegetarian and delicious from start to finish. The big pot of chai was as good as the chai you get in India. The staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Many thanks to our delightful waitress Rashmi who shared her passion with us for Indian food and culture. If you love Indian food as we do The Pakora bar should be on your Edinburgh hit list.

Pros: Food, Dog friendly , Lovely friendly Indian staff.

Cons: None

Fantastic food and great service.

The location and atmosphere was really nice. The cauliflower and mushroom Pakora were delicious. Whilst in Scotland why not try the veg Haggis which was really lovely.

Pros: Great Service, Fantastic Food, Attentive service

Cons: Need more choice of rose wines, Not sure about the low level tables, Outdoor heating would be useful?

Very helpful.owner

We were not sure what was vegan, vegetarian dishes are clearly marked on the menu. The owner served us and was able to tell us that most of the vegetarian dishes were vegan.
The food was delicious. Really tasty with a perfect mix of spices.
We will be back very soon to try more of this good food.

Pros: Very knowledgeable owner

The Pakora Bar Hanover Street

Inside is small and cosy and even though it can sometimes get busy the staff were really pleasant and attentive and come to you. I got a vegan veggie haggis Pakora wrap and honestly cannot recommend it enough, and for only £5 it's an absolute bargain for quick, delicious food.

Pros: Great variety of vegan options.

Cons: Can be hard to get a table if busy.

Last visit

My last visit
Started at 4 star, then 3, now 2? A lack of attention and the value seems to have gone a little.
Had an okra special which said it was vegan,I asked, confirmed.
The curry came with two roti which were smeard.in ghee of butter and the curry was really only.
I don't think I will be back.
Asked for a vegan platter and they has no idea what I wanted. Asked for vegan options and it was like pulling teeth.
Had some pakora and it was like Accrington bricks.
Had friends visiting for the festival and I was mortified at pot this was.
Hate to give such a bad rating but hate bad food.

Ask for the vegan platter

It's not on the menu, but if you ask your server for the vegan selection they will be able to put together something for you. When I visited I had cauliflower, aubergine, mushroom, and of course veggie haggis! A great vegan friendly snack.

Fantastic little place

Went here with an omni friend, pescatarian and myself (vegan). the staff were lovely and friendly. Very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to pointing out what was vegan. He also recommended some dishes I might not necessarily have tried before - and boy were they delicious! The pakora platter between 3 was exceptional - everything was so yummy. Also BYOB so was great for going for a cheap night out. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend. Would especially recommend the vegan haggis pakora and cauliflower pakora.

Pros: Amazing vegan food, BYOB, great atmosphere

Cons: bit small (4-5 tables)

Delicious pakora, now comes in a wrap!

I needed somewhere quick for lunch on this side of Princes Street and pakora in a wrap was just what I needed. I opted for cauliflower pakora, and it comes with salad and sauce. They also have aubergine pakora, veggie haggis pakora, and I think another one or two. It was £5 for the wrap and the can of Rubicon lychee juice was £1.50. The food came quickly and I had plenty of time to sit in an eat before I had to head off.

I chatted for a bit with a member of staff who has come up with an idea of running a weekly vegan All-You-Can-Eat buffet night. Going by their menu this would be pakora, curries, and rice. I'd definitely be up for that! They're looking for feedback if you have thoughts on this.

Pros: Good range of vegan pakora, Quick food, Food tastes fresh

spicy!!!!

This is a nice spot just off of one of the main streets. I had the curry pakora and even tried the veggie haggis. The nice man at the register pointed out to me what the vegan options were (as vegetarian options are noted on the menu but not the vegan ones). I was informed that the samosas weren't vegan, as there may be egg in the dough. The food was extremely tasty but very spicy. I like spicy foods (just not as spicy as this), but this was still very good in my book.

Pros: tasty food, veg*n knowledgeable, friendly staff

Cons: may need to request items to be 'less spicy&#3
