Superb tasting menu - Edit
Everything about the experience at Wedgwood was exquisite. The waiting staff were so lovely friendly and knowledgeable. They had a vegan tasting and a La carte menu and a wine list. I had the tasting menu and they also made vegan canapés which were INCREDIBLE. When my partner had the cheese course they brought me more of their fabulous sourdough bread which was super thoughtful. All the food was fresh, seasonal and well thought out. Absolutely loved every minute!!

Lovely lunch - Edit
Lovely express lunch on a Thursday afternoon, there are only 3 options total but at least 1 is vegan or vegan adaptable. They also have a full vegan tasting menu which looked very good too!

Delicious vegan tasting menu - Edit
Wedgewood used to be my absolute favourite restaurant in Edinburgh before I became vegan, but I hadn't been in years as I assumed it wouldn't be all that vegan friendly. After spotting that they offered a vegetarian tasting menu, I called and asked if they could do a vegan version and was told it would be no problem. Every course was absolutely delicious (including the mushroom course that always crops up on tasting menus and I dread every time!). Although not the cheapest place around, we've previously tried the vegan tasting menu at Kitchin and at half the price of that, I actually enjoyed Wedgewood's menu more (not just because of the price). Highly recommended, and I'm glad to be able to put them back on my list of favourites.

Spectacular vegan picnic hamper - Edit
Slightly unusual offering: Wedgwood do picnic hampers on request. They're prepared to order, and I was lucky to receive one as a present. Paul, the head chef, apparently took on the idea of a vegan hamper as a personal project. I can wholeheartedly recommend the result.
Read moreWe received an eleven course meal for two in two small hampers, including wine & glasses, "milk", flask of coffee & mugs, plates, cutlery, napkins, and hand cleanser. Ice packs meant the food was still chilled when we started to eat 7 hours after collection.
The wine was chosen to match the gifter's budget; we were told it was "a little unusual" — translation: "absurdly drinkable".
Straight off, the herb oil was a big hit, soaked up with crusty bread; we charged through a wholesome rice & bean salad and nicely presented baked mushroom couscous (with decorative mushroom-y flakes), wolfed down (we were starving!) a very delicious "halloumi" & roast veg, to find ourselves filling up as we set into a pasta & deliciously flavoursome pesto.
Six courses left — portion control! Next was one of the two real stars of the show: a sprout, walnut and pomegranate salad with tangy dressing. Tasted as good as it looks (see photo!). At this point we were flagging a little, so we only lightly sampled the oriental noodles, the roast asparagus with kale and mustard grains and the sesame runner beans, and left the leaves for later.
On to dessert: the plain description of "granola, chocolate, berries" just doesn't do it justice. This was effectively a chocolate fondue with fresh raspberries, strawberries and mini granola slices to dip, accompanied by coffee. 9 hours after collection, the coffee was still hot, if no longer piping.
So, overall: the no-doubt upmarket price was more than matched by the experience: the food was delicious, and often a feast for the eyes as well; the portions generous; the wine stellar — and we still hadn't finished our eleven-course picnic after three hours. We had leftovers for a couple of days afterwards and I'm salivating as I think back on some of the dishes.
Beyond a pair of dry mandarins I think my only "complaint" would be more of a suggestion towards less weight in the early dishes: finding ourselves so full after the rice, couscous and pasta left us struggling a little, but perhaps we could have chosen to eat more responsibly..
The gifter reports finding Lisa Wedgwood exceptionally responsive and helpful while arranging the hamper too.
Pros: A truly special vegan "event" treat, Hours of entertainment/eating, Excellent value for what you get
Cons: Be ready to loosen your belt
