Vegan

Disappointing, nothing was actually vegan.

We went to the Seven Stars in Kingsbridge after finding it on Happy Cow.

I selected a 'vegan option available' starter and was brought the non-vegan version, as apparently the note didn't make it to the kitchen. Frustrating but understandable.

However, for the main course I ordered the Vegan Sunday Roast option, marked (Ve), and specifically checked that it came with vegan sides (as it said everything was served with a Yorkshire pudding & those aren't generally vegan).

When it arrived it came with a Yorkshire pudding... I queried if the Yorkshire pudding was vegan, and it came back with the Yorkshire removed (but everything it had touched still the same).

The waitress assured me everything else was definitely vegan. There were some leeks in a white sauce, so I asked what the sauce was and she didn't know.

On checking with the kitchen it turned out to be (dairy) cream.

Eventually they brought me out a replacement meal (although I'm not sure the Wellington wasn't the same one), but at that point I didn't really feel comfortable as clearly neither the kitchen nor the waitstaff had a clear understanding of what vegan is.

I thought it was going to be so great from my research, but I'd rather go somewhere I can only eat chips than go somewhere who serves me cream & tells me it's vegan!

Cons: Non-vegan items marked as vegan, Staff insisted non-vegan items were vegan, Treated as difficult for wanting what I ordered

Stunning vegan-friendly Sunday Dinner

This was our first Sunday Dinner since turning vegan two years ago. We never thought somewhere local to us would provide this option.

We were able to order the spiced butternut squash soup with sage and truffle oil for starters, which was just beautiful and just the right portion size.

We were pleasantly surprised to have two vegan main options on the day, though only one was on the menu. We had one of each and split them to try both. Vegan haggis Wellington and mushroom suet pudding, with all the trimmings. The chef was kind enough to make a vegan gravy and Yorkshire puddings. The veg is usually done in butter so we just had without.

The portions sizes are absolutely huge. Stunning food. They had a poached pear that you could make vegan without the creme fraise but we hadn't the room!

Pros: Huge portions, Willing to adapt to suit vegan diet, Stunning Sunday Dinner main course

Cons: Limited options for vegans on regular menu , Dessert only vegan if removing something , Only one dessert option
