Helpful, delicious, good priced Indian food - Edit
They have a large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, but I wanted something not labelled as such - vegetable byriani. I asked a staff member who, straight away said, "Yes, it's vegan, no animal products are used to make it."
Read moreAs we had takeaway, it was important that it was hot. When we came to eat 15 minutes later, all the dishes were still piping hot.
The byriani, tarka dahl and sag aloo we had were all delicious.
Pros: Great food, Good service

The gem of Kingsbridge - Edit
Mahab-bharat is local to us and has been a favourite long before the vegan days. However, we hadn't been in a while because we mistakenly thought there weren't many options for us.
Read moreThe menu is huge, and utterly glorious, and being invited out with my wife's parents we decided to get in touch and see what was actually possible for vegans. Mahi (whose family own the restaurant) was as kind and knowledgeable as always and was quick to inform us that only several options on the menu weren't able to be made vegan. The only bread option available to us was the chapatis, which were lovely, and though not as doughy tasted like a plain naan anyway. Loaded up with curry they're just as good!
With 24 hours notice they will make a vegan batter for onion bhaji (I insist you do this, they're to die for) and are happy to give you recommendations.
Owner, Mr Islam, was patient and polite with our requests and questions and picked us a dish (the Subzi Hara Dhaniya) based upon our preferences and desire to have two dishes/curries that tasted completely different. We also had a pathia and veganised mushroom pilau rice.
Mahab-bhatat may not be cheap but it has won awards for a reason. The food is wonderful and you'll struggle to find better customer service anyway else in Devon. Get in touch via Facebook or phone to chat about the possibilities.
Pros: Lots of vegan options , Authentic Indian cuisine, Helpful, friendly staff
Cons: Vegan dishes aren't marked as vegan
