Real Chili went from a late-night-only food to one of my favorite afternoon comfort meals as I got older. The vegetarian (vegan) chili is your classic 5-way Cincinnati style dish with a house-made plant protein base (if anyone knows the recipe, I'm dying to know!). Plus, second helpings are half price.
I was in town for a wedding and after some dinner time meetups with the wedding crew at places where not too much vegan stuff was available, I’d look around the city for a vegan meal. Late night vegan food is hard to find, so I appreciate that Real Chili offers a vegan chili well past midnight.
The chili must be a regional style, and it was all right. It’s served over spaghetti(!) with oyster crackers and jalapeños if you like, all toppings confirmed vegan by the cashier. It’s a good late night bowl of hot food, and a slice of local flavor, if not a champion chili.
