Great Mango Curry

Located in Yellow Springs, Calypso has some great vegan options. I really loved their mango curry with jackfruit, and they had a great fresh mango corn salad. Everything tasted super fresh and flavorful. We totally missed the menu page with the Yuca fries and empanadas, so we'll eventually be back.

Mango curry

Very tasty Jack fruit mango curry- portions were not huge which I like because I could eat and be full but not waste or have leftover… good mixed drink’s selection and deserts

Bland

So it was a nice little place but the food is definitely pretty bland and if you do go I don't recommended the plantains they are pretty gross. The food did lack seasoning, though I enjoyed my jackfruit meal when I had put salt and the aija salsa. I give them three stars for at least having an option for vegan people

Pros: They had 2 vegan options on the menu, Great service

Cons: Overpriced, Bland

Great options

Although I haven’t been to the Caribbean, it tasted authentic. Nice surprise in Ohio. Vegan options were clearly marked making the options easy to choose from. I enjoyed the black bean empanadas as well as the Cuban black beans which paired well with the corn fritter. I saved my plantains for dessert.

Restaurant has a nice vibe although there was a heavy smoky smell that was a bit much.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Restaurant has smoke smell

YAH MON. Go here!

The food was a solid 3 stars for us, but LEGIT Latin-Caribbean cuisine in small-town rural Ohio?? With a TON of vegan options??!! Am I dreaming?
Heck yaaa you get that extra star!! SIGN. ME. UP.

This place is such a pleasant surprise! Don’t be fooled by its unassuming exterior - they’ve got that laid-back island vibe, reggae music and a long list of creative and refreshing drinks. But the FOOD. I’m amazed by the sheer number of vegan options on the menu (so many GF too!) We tried a whole bunch of stuff; my favorites were the black bean & corn empanadas, the grilled plantains and the yuca fries. My only grouse would be that everything was on the bland side. (We like well-spiced!) The vegan chimichurri aioli that came out with the empanadas was BOMB though.

Service was so-so. We felt a little rushed; it was super busy on a Sunday night though. Maybe our waitress was having a bad day…

Regardless, we will definitely seek out this place the next time we go hiking in this area!

Pros: A TON of vegan options, Most are also gluten-free if that’s your thing!

Cons: The interior smells strongly of smoked meat

Delicious

We had a fantastic meal at Calypso Grill! My husband and I shared the fried plantains as an appetizer. I ordered the empanadas with black beans and corn and a side of the island Cole slaw and yucca fries. For dessert I had the coconut rice pudding. Everything was delicious and we plan to return!

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Lots of gluten-free options

Empanadas & pigeon peas

I ordered the black bean and corn empanadas as well as the pigeon peas and rice. Both were delicious! I love their packaging for pickup orders - brown paper bag, cardboard to go boxes (no plastic waste)! Definitely worth stopping for.

oh. my. god.

Rolled in 30 mins prior to closing, restaurant was busy but managed to get seated quickly. Menu has so many vegan options, we wanted to get them all.

And so we did. Some were unavailable due to being out of stock after a long day, totally understandable. Ordered one of every available and shared between family. Every single dish was out of this world. Due to a mix of general hunger after a long day of biking and the fact that the food was delicious, the plates hardly had time to hit the table before our forks and spoons went flying. Bring every person you know and just order all the vegan food. Make those meat eaters understand how delicious vegan food is. If we lived in the area, we would have to force ourselves to not stop by every single day of the week. Liked that they understood that vegans love lots of flavor. Good level of spice and seasonings.

Honorable mentions: vegan soup, beans... oh to heck with it every dish honestly. Can’t pick favorites

Pros: wide vegan selection , flavorful, substantial

Cons: not in my own backyard:(
