Lots of options on the menu with lots of askable alternatives - Edit
Really fun and quirky classic diner with many vegan entrees and vegan adaptations. The dishes were fresh and well prepared albeit very simple flavors
Read morePros: Lot of vegan ready items, Tofu instead of eggs, Breakfast patty not pretending to be meat

Quaint Eatery - Edit
Fun place to eat - murals on the walls, brick walls. A few vegan options well marked on the menu. Had the vegan scramble with tofu. Vegetables were cooked perfectly. Could have used a few more spices. Service was great!

Good Food - Edit
This place offers several vegan options and more dishes that can be made vegan by omitting things. Menu items are marked with V and GF, which is helpful. I got the house made veggie burger that was tasty and had a good texture that held together well. The version I chose was topped with marinated kale, carmelized onions, and pickle which was a delicious combination. Hubby got the vegan scramble which was veggies and tofu scrambled together and topped with salsa. It was tasty and filling. Sister got the black bean hummus enchiladas served on a bed of polenta. She raved about it all afternoon. I liked that they didnt rely on faux meat products or serve deep fried vegan foods. I would eat here again.

Pretty mid food, Great atmosphere - Edit
We enjoyed the garden patio seating in the back, the laidback vibes and the friendly service at Sunrise Cafe; the food however was just okay. I got the Vegan Fill-Up breakfast, which is a plate of two veggie patties, sautéed garlic mushrooms with spinach, sunrise potatoes and choice of toast. It was a little too oily for my taste, and unfortunately looked a lot better than it tasted.

In house made and delicious! - Edit
Sunrise cafe is one of my favs! Everything is so fresh and is made in house. I haven’t had anything I didn’t like! I love how they have vegan options marked and are VERY knowledgeable about what can be modified to be made vegan. Some of my favorites are the hummus plate, veggie burger, soups, and black bean enchiladas (dinner only). If you are in the area definitely stop in! Totally worth it!

Eh - Edit
Not impressed with the Vegan/Vegetarian dinner menu. Most of the entrées listed were black bean based, which isn’t something I’m interested in ordering when out. Of the 2 entree options that remained, one wasn’t able to be made Vegan, so tofu stir fry it was. Unfortunately it contained honey, but I just went with it since my options were slim. It was tasty, but the tofu wasn’t seared. If I’m going to pay money to eat restaurant food, I expect the tofu to be cooked, not just cubed and heated up. I was hoping that the Vegan Cheesecake listed in the description would save the night, but they didn’t have it or seem familiar with the existence of it. The only Vegan dessert was avocado pudding, which I wasn’t willing to endure. Eh.

Old Style Vegetarian - Edit
Sunrise Cafe has many well labeled vegetarian and vegan items on their menu along with plenty of other options to make everyone happy. The veg options they do have though are very old school (no seitan, tempeh, cheeze, etc) and use vegetables in place of what would typically now be a protein substitute.
Read moreMy partner got the Gyro and it was just oiled vegetables in a pita and I got the tofu scramble which was a lot of oiled vegetables and a small amount, in comparison, of fried tofu purée over top.
While I prefer the newer options that we have available to us, I was still happy with my meal. Also, this may be something others are more interested in if they’re staying away from more processed foods.

Busy for a reason - Edit
There was a little wait to get in, but well worth it! Lots of vegan options and very friendly & knowledgeable staff. I got the Veggie burger with a side salad. I ordered the the salad with house vinaigrette and the server brought that AND the green goddess dressing … said it’s vegan, delicious and thinks everyone should try it. They were right! Burger was very tasty and filling as well. Lucky to have chosen this on a whim today!

Ray of Sunshine in Yellow Springs - Edit
Great vegan options. Family of three, all ordered soups and different dishes.
Read moreDrinks:
Had a nice local red wine and decent IPA from yellow springs brewery
Soup of the days:
Carrot ginger soup was very good, thick/had substance to it
Potato soup was very good as well, had a good deep flavor
Would order both again
Main course:
Peanut Thai: (tofu, broccoli, rice, peppers, etc) very good for all peanut lovers out there. Seems small when it first comes out but ended up not even being able to finish it all, very filling. Make sure to mix in the rice, otherwise the peanut sauce could be just slightly too strong.
Chickpea Tikka Masala: very good, for those who are used to lots of spice, it could have used a bit more (we are used to lots of spices, so this may not apply to all) overall enjoyed the dish
Black bean quinoa stir fry: well prepared and tasty, personally would have added more cumin. As previously stated, we use lots of spice.
Pleasant experience, nice staff, were good about answering our many questions and personalizing orders. Definitely recommend to all.
Pros: Vegan friendly, Multiple options, Cuisines from around the world

AMAZING - Edit
This restaurant isn't fully vegan but is sooo good! Thee food is absolutely amazing and my favorite restaurant since I went vegan. It's on of the only restaurants that I can find with vegan dessert options. They make sure that you can find anything you want if your a omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free. 100% recommend

1st restaurant I tried after moving to YS - Edit
Oh my favorite Sunrise Cafe will make any morning delightfully delicious. They have a nice variety of dishes all made with local ingredients. I haven't been for lunch or dinner, but I'm positive they are just as scrumptious. They have exceptional coffee, and I'm obsessed with their homemade ketchup, and veggie patties! I highly recommend this spot.

It was okay - Edit
I had the veggie tofu scramble with the sunrise potatoes. It was good, but not great. Expensive for what you get. But, there are little to none vegan friendly places in the nearby area so I guess I'll deal with it when I'm visiting family.

Vegan friendly in Ohio - Edit
Sunrise is the most vegan friendly restaurant in Yellow Springs. Surprisingly, it indeed might the only vegan friendly one in this otherwise liberal and high minded village. I had several meals here, the vegan food was mostly excellent. One dinner special, Black Bean-Bok Choy Ragu with Curried Risotto Cake, was lovely. An Incan black bean quinoa entree was overly salty, otherwise was good. The Veggie Burger (could be made vegan) was excellent. They had a vegan cake (when available) that was delicious. Overall the restaurant was excellent. Service was great, helpful and not intrusive. Seating in the back garden area was quiet and allowed conversation.

Horrible service - Edit
I think this is the worst restaurant I've been to in a long time. We had to wait for about 20 minutes to sit (it's just a little cafe) but I wanted to try it since it had vegan options. The waitress moved so slowly it was like she time had warped around her. The menu warned that they would take longer than normal because they prepare each meal from scratch, so I thought at least the food will be good. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special, nothing I couldn't have gotten at almost any other deli in half or a quarter of the time. If you're starving and/or have time to kill, go there. Otherwise, save your money and eat somewhere else. We'll almost certainly never darken their door again.
