Management Issues - Edit
The newer management needs to improve communication about wait times on meals as the table service is poor, expect extremely long waits when the restaurant isn’t even busy. It took 40 minutes to be told a dish is unavailable and other people had walked out due to the poor service. Years ago the food was great, but now the atmosphere and quality of food has gone downhill, the food being cold when it shouldn’t be and left feeling very dissatisfied with service.
Read morePros: Plenty of vegan options, Drinks was nice
Cons: Bland food, New management disorganised, poor service, Long waiting time, expect over an hour +

Yes I had an extremely bad experience here a few weeks ago which I did not write a review on because I really felt the business must be struggling and I felt sorry for the staff. The cafe was understaffed, we waited half an hour to be attended to, my meal took another half hour to arrive and then an hour after taking our order the waiter came out to say my companion’s order was unavailable. It was frankly mind-bogglingly bad, and very sad to think that a few years ago this was one of Fitzroy’s foremost veg restaurants and I’d have to wait half an hour for a table.

Bowl Heaven - Edit
A great place for a healthy bowl and juice. Had a deep fried mushroom in a batter that wasn’t great, tasted like old oil. Highly recommend bowl and juices though.

Another less than impressive experience - Edit
I keep wanting to give this place an improved rating but every time I visit something just doesn’t go quite right. We ordered a macro dragon bowl with tempeh ($15.90 lunch special) and the Mapo tofu ($19.50). The bowl was a very good size and had decent amount of flavour for a brown rice job, mainly from my selected cashew cream condiment. There was a bit of a glitch and we were brought the tofu Katsu instead of the mapo tofu. When the correct tofu dish arrived it had a nice flavour, but the small pieces of mock meat did not give it a ‘mincy’ texture and it was a bit dry and not that spicy. I have memories of this place being good, but recent experiences have been less than impressive. Another thing I don’t understand is why this place doesn’t modify the one or two dishes with dairy and become completely vegan.

Average - Edit
Good food but they were much better in times past. The food has slipped to being just ok now. Average.

Great service, tasty food! - Edit
Got the savory buckwheat crepes - it was so good! My husband got the pineapple fried rice - also good but nothing special. Also got the cacao shake which was nice but not chilled. Service was amazing, they were so friendly and adaptable as I like my dressings and sauces on the side 👌Want to revisit and try other tasty dishes.

Delicious food, so many delicious looking dishes to choose from on the menu. I ordered the meal that was made up of lots of little dishes (can't remember the name), it was really enjoyable!

What's the fuss? - Edit
2 of the 3 meals we ordered were disappointing. Dragon Bowl was great, teriyaki 'chicken' was dull, Japanese curry tasted like tinned soup. Goyoza was very good, cauli pops were bland. Rice beer was gross but an experience so didn't mind it so much. The service was fine, the price was high.

Excellent Raw Food - Edit
Tried 3 of their raw dishes - rawsagna, kelp pad thai, cheesecake and loved them all. Also had the kimchi gyoza which we absolutely loved.
Read moreIt was quite packed and quite noisy because there aren't any carpets or curtains to absorb the sound.
Service was great.
Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, raw are all clearly marked which is wonderful.
Would definitely come back again if I'm ever in Melbourne. Well done!
Pros: Great tasting food, Tasty raw vegan dishes, Good service

Be-Yong Good - Edit
The Korean Pancake Platter is next level. You get three different pancakes - chive, kale and kimchi - and you'll have a hard time picking a favourite! Some other dishes we've tried are Japchae, Buckwheat Crepe, Raw Nori Roll, and Kimchi Gyoza, all of which are yum. They have desserts too, although none of them are Asian desserts (in saying that, the Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake is bloody delicious).

Great Japanese curry - Edit
I love their Japanese curry; and their desserts as well. And many other dishes, whether Asian inspired or burgers
Read moreIt's a bit pricey, and one of the 2 rooms is noisy when at full capacity, but still love this place.
It's 95% vegan, not quite sure why they dont go full vegan...
Also, no split bills
Pros: Great food, Wide choice
Cons: A bit pricey, Can be noisy

Beyond Bland - Edit
Friendly service (if unprofessional when busy, i.e. treat customers more like Camy’s Shanghai Dumpling than a venue that charges $20-25 per dish); decent sized serves; *BUT* I have yet to eat anything at Yong’s with even a smidgin of flavour.
Read morePros: generally pleasant friendly service, nice enough during ‘off-peak’ periods, many vegan options
Cons: overpriced underwhelming fare, extremely loud and bad service when busy, the food is incredibly bland

Time to drop the dairy. - Edit
I have been to Yong's 5 times now. 2 good, 2 not bad, 1 dreadful.
Read moreThe food is generally of a very high standard, they have a large menu and the staff and generally excellent. Prices are a touch on the high side, but if you make the right menu choices and the staff are on form, well and truly worth it.
Coffee is average & the pho is pointlessly bland.
The last time that I visited I ordered the nachos (Vegan on request), I asked the waiter twice to make them Vegan, yet he delivered them with dairy sour cream and cheese on them, which I ate some of before my girlfriend noticed the issue. I took them back and they were replaced, but the staff did not see it as an issue. The Vegan nachos were decidedly lacking in sauce and flavour.
Yongs believe that nursing human mothers need dairy milk o.O that is one of their excuses for stocking it.

Although Yong Green Food is a vegetarian restaurant, most of their dishes are vegan and yes, it would be awesome if they could turn into a fully vegan restaurant! Food is good, service is alright. [edit by staff]

Cozy Little Place - Edit
Cozy little place for vegan food, average service. The only downside is probably not a fully restaurant. Love their macrobiotic bowl ~ Desserts are alright, not so into the strong coconut flavor.

Loved it! - Edit
Just had dinner here with my partner. We shared the kimchi pancake, faux tuna nori rolls, the yin & yang charger, and the tofu katsu. Everything was delicious and fairly healthy to boot. The menu is mostly vegan and appears to be pan-Asian but does have a Japanese/Korean slant, so I'd suggest sticking with dishes from that corner of the world for the best result.
Read moreWe didn't stay for dessert because we had decided to go to the crêperie down the street instead. Total bill came to AU$78 including two glasses of draft kombucha. which I thought was very reasonable. Service was prompt and straightforward.
I found it a bit overwhelming when doing my research as to where to eat in this neighborhood because it teems with veg*n options. In the end, I'm very glad I picked this place.
Pros: great food, good value
