The Best Vegan Burgers - Edit
Some of the best vegan burgers out there. I always stop in when I'm in Carlisle. Burgers are often the most basic of vegan options with so many places focused more on presentation & size than flavour, but Timmy's is one of the best examples of how to do it right that I've had.
Read moreA cynic would say that a chef this good is wasted on burgers.
I'm assured everything else is on the menu is good but I can't bring myself to not get a burger.
The place has a great vibe but if I'm honest is always disappointingly quiet given its prime location on Botchergate.

Good - Edit
We ate here on a day out to Carlisle on the bus from Newcastle. A fairly quiet Thursday evening at 5pm. Lovely food, I agree with the other reviews that Hawaiian burger is great! All lovely. Fantastic to have a vegan place in Carlisle. We used to live here and there was only one options place back then!

Hawaiian burger and onion rings are a hit. Bhaji flatbreads are absolutely amazing!!! Coleslaw is a bit too mayonnaisey. Margherita pizza is sort of bland. Overall good and would come again.

Great! - Edit
There’s so much to choose from. My non-vegan friend and I shared the chilli nachos - which were delicious but a bit too spicy for us! 😅 - as well as the Hot Dog and the New York burger. The food was amazing and the service was quick and friendly, highly recommend 😊

Delicious burgers - Edit
Fantastic vegan burgers! Menu had a great selection of pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, gyros and other dishes as well as a broad drinks menu. We only ordered burgers, all of which were really delicious, and were too full for pudding! We will return if we are in the area again ☺️ lovely welcoming staff and atmosphere.

Slow service and mediocre food - Edit
The food took ages, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy.

The pizza tasted like nothing and the gyros was a bit of a joke (it mostly lettuce). Very limited GF options.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon Timmy's Bar & Kitchen whilst on a road trip. To say that they have the best vegan hotdog in the U.K. may actually be underselling just how delicious it was.

Good but not 5 star - Edit
The menu is full of burgers, nuggets and pizzas. Our pizzas were clearly homemade, and were thin crust. We had a no meatball & a BBQ jackfruit. There was a lot of sauce on mine & it would have been nice to have a little bit of salad with it, but it was very tasty and had a good proportion of jackfruit & sweetcorn amongst the saucy topping.
Read moreIt’s an inexpensive place for a meal, but we were there for 90 mins, and only had 1 drink & a main so don’t go in if you’re in a rush
I love that it is 100% vegan and is ideally situated next to the Vue cinema.

Good enough for a visit, not a return - Edit
We visited Timmy’s on a overnight stay as it was the only vegan place in Carlisle. The menu looked great, so we were very excited.
Read moreOn arrival we were pleased with the relaxed ambience, large menu, friendly service and the fact that they had spirits and mixers too.
We had the chicken nuggets and a burger each.
The food was good, hot and the sauces tasty. There really isn’t anything to complain about in most senses.
Personally I was just disappointed that ‘non-meat’ ingredients were all things I could have bought in the supermarket and cooked at home. I guess I was just expecting things to be a bit more ‘homemade’. To me it was the same as what I would have gotten a few doors down at Wetherspoons. Don’t get me wrong - there’s a time and place for that and I did enjoy it. It just means I wouldn’t go back or especially recommend it.
Having been vegan for 5 years and having visited a lot of places over time, I’m simply used to vegan food being more ‘custom made’. Perhaps it might be an idea to state on the menu that they use Moving Mountain burgers and what o think were Quorn nuggets. That way, you know what you’re ordering.
One slight niggle was the amount of sauce on the burgers, which meant that everything inside just slid out and I wound up with loads of food on my face, rather than in my mouth.

Wow! Amazing vegan restaurant! - Edit
Carlisle is a half way point for us when visiting my parents in Scotland so we were very pleased to find a vegan restaurant in the city! Timmy's absolutely delivered - a fantastic menu and very good value for money. Food was hot, portions big and service friendly. Some of the best beers we've tasted as well a good vegan wine menu. Dog friendly too and our two were very well looked after and offered vegan doggie treats! We love what Timmy's is doing - excellent cruelty free food in a comfortable and inclusive environment. We're booked in for out journey back down south next week and can't wait to sample more of the menu!

Cons: It was freezing in there

Hi, thanks for the response but I can't ever imagine this is something a customer would feel comfortable doing and I certainly wouldn't. I'm surprised the staff didn't notice, as they were stood around a lot of the time chatting, just how cold it was and that most of the customers were wearing their coats and hats to eat their food. Considering the size of your venue, if the staff had turned the heating on at the point of my arrival the room would not have warmed up whilst I was there, it would need to be turned on at least an hour before opening to be realistically warm. As I said in the review it was more than just chilly in there, it was freezing. If an eatery cannot make their venue warm and inviting it isn't somewhere I'll be returning to.

Hi, thank you for your reply. As we were the only customers in there to start with and it was already freezing when we arrived I’m not sure which table asked for the already turned off heating to be turned off.

Not great... - Edit
I'm not sure if people get excited when they see a large menu? We were in on a Friday night and the place was rather empty which is never a good sign. Food was mediocre at best, it's like they bought burgers at the supermarket and some sauces and put it all together. The chips were the only saving grace. I would not recommend this place at all, specially for non vegans, they would be put off for sure! Also we saw staff clearly licking their fingers and not washing their hands afterwards!!

Vegan restaurant with burgers and pizzas! - Edit
This is a little gem in Carlisle! Timmy's is a fully vegan restaurant serving a range of burgers, pizzas, and sides. The food was so tasty! We got onion bajis and cheese melts (vegan cheese balls covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried) as starters and tasty burgers for our mains with pesto mayo and ketchup to dip our fries into. They have a great selection of drinks (especially for IPA lovers) too. We were surprised it wasn't busier when we visited on a Saturday evening, though people were popping in to get take-away. I'd definitely visit again if I'm in the area. I bet their pizza is tasty as our meals were great!
