Does jay generally mean vegan in thailand or does jay/vegetarian include milk/eggs etc?
Read morebeancurdled
Magsawirat means vegetarian or "no meat" and jay is closer to vegan (or Jainism, apparently) so no eggs, dairy, etc and often also excludes onions, garlic, sometimes pungent herbs and spices too.

Lots of vegan options. Very friendly staff. Delicious and cheap (Khao Soi is only THB 40). Free water and there are restrooms inside!

Cheap and cheerful - Edit
Limited number of precooked items out the front, but 5 or so items can be made to order (with precooked ingredients) further inside. The khao soi was a good size, had lots of fake meat and quite a meaty taste. Every khao soi I eat tastes different from the last, so I have no idea how authentic it is. At only 40 baht though, I'm not complaining.

DELICIOUS! - Edit
There are two food stalls with vegetarian Thai food. One of them has pre cooked different vegetable dishes behind a glass window to choose and the other one cooks fresh for you. Here you can choose between 7 dishes. I had the dry Tom Yum with soy bean "pork" and mushroom balls. After 10 minutes I got an outstanding delicious dish for 40 tbh. Very special and authentic. The atmosphere could be a little bit better because its in a very big room.

CR's biggest and one of the best - Edit
Sit on a log while you enjoy the most spacious dining area among CR's vegan buffets. The buffet here wins for incorporating the most new vegetables I've never eaten before. Dishes are flavorful and not too pricey. Very friendly staff and always a mix of local and expat customers give it a lively atmosphere. The place also is lined with plants to feel like you're dining on a jungle trek. I'm waiting for it to cool down before trying all the noodle soup options, which is very necessary as they always run out of food at the buffet and sometimes also rice. They're closed for the whole hot season.

We went here multiple times during our stay in Chiang Rai. It's easy and convenient to park you scooter in front of the restaurant.

We also bought some curry pastes at their shop which turned out to be very nice. Warning: super spicy.
Definitely visit this restaurant when you're in Chiang Rai.

Not the best - Edit
Maybe their made to order stuff is better, but the pre cooked food I tried was nothing to write home about. Got there around midday and there were about six trays to choose from. Nothing looked that exciting, but took a chance on some green veg and what looked like mushroom slush on rice (40B). The green veg was too bitter to eat and the mushroom stuff a bit boring. If you like your noodle soups maybe check it out, but for precooked food the options around the bus station are better value in my opinion.

cheap, tasty and filling - Edit
My friend and I both had the Tom yum soup with vegetables and rice noodles, which was deliciously flavoured. I wasn’t a massive fan of the soy pork in it but the other crispy bits, peanuts and veg were tasty. They only had noodle soup left when we arrived.

Cheap and good food - Edit
The food here is nothing special in my opinion, but it's very cheap! The Kao Soi was good, but you can get better (although more expensive). But it's nice to have a fully vegan place in Chiang Rai, as options are rather limited compared to Pai or Chiang Mai. The owner speaks good English, which is nice if you want to ask about certain ingredients.

Delicious & Great Variety - Edit
Went here twice in Chiang Rai, both times the food was yum at a super cheap price, and the staff were lovely. Nice, large seating area and a large variety of food - would recommend the most out of all the "ready-made counter style" vegan places in Chiang Rai.

Best vegan spot in Chiang Rai - Edit
I've tried all locations on Happy Cow and this place tops them all in Chiang Rai. I'm not saying that this is ImmAim like in Chiang Mai or Earth Tone in Pai. This is similar to your standard Thai buffet vegan joint including very warm service with English and hot food. You can eat a filling meal for around 40 baht.

Friendly and cheap! - Edit
Just arrived in Chiang Mai, and this was near my hostel, so it's the first place I've been. So happy with the choice! It's a counter-service, cafeteria-style restaurant, where a wonderfully helpful lady with fairly good English dishes you out a few items onto a plate, with a bowl of soup, for 40 baht. I also picked up some fried tofu crisps and soybean crisps - definitely recommend them, too!

awesome - Edit
After days of failed attempts and closed vegan shops everywhere, we were positively gleeful to find this awesome vegan's heaven. All products are completely vegan, lots of tasty vegan meats like fish, pork, chicken, and duck to pick from the buffet. Great vegan ramen noodles. All delicious, healthy, great price, clean and open space to eat. Found some rare organic brown rice for sale. So happy to find this place! Go for an assortment of the meats combined with the brown rice. Yum!

Typical vegetarian buffet - Edit
This place has the usual vegetarian buffet options. Some dishes with greens and some with fake meat. They also have noodle soup but haven't tried that. 40 baht for rice and 3 dishes. Quite tasty. Will definitely go back again.

Many veggies dishes - Edit
Hope I am writing review for the right restaurant - location is the same as shown, and I saw eye-catching VEGETARIAN FOOD words at the front.
Read moreI have eaten here 3 times and will likely eat at least once more. The best part about this place is that some items are vegetables only, some of which have chewy mushrooms, a few have limited tofu. In some places all I got was mock 'pork', 'chicken' or whatever with very little veggies. I simply don't like to eat mock meat.
I ate mashed eggplants with green peas (perhaps inspired by an Indian dish baigan bharta) but with no/little oil and spices. Today I ate another dish which reminded of an Indian dish. Then there are greens - all tasty. Rice with three sides cost 35B.
There was just one juice - carrot mixed with apple and pineapples and it was heavenly. 25B.
Main lady is friendly and speaks limited English.
Overall, one of better buffet-style restaurants for me.
Pros: Lots of veggies, Very cheap, Convenient location from center of town
Cons: Mainly buffet-style

Tasty food- freshly made noodle dish! - Edit
We went here for lunch-
Read morethe food was great!!
The red curry had lots of veg and was mild and delicious.
They have a selection of buffet items with lots of vegetables (about 10 different dishes) and tasted fresh. All come with brown rice.
If you want something freshly cooked, there is a noodle station where you can pick your type of noodles and these are cooking with greens in a hot broth (no msg) and served with peanuts. It was really tasty!
There is also a few take home ready made items like crisps etc for sale, and free drinking water with your meal.
Food is very cheap, although we got charged 10baht extra.. perhaps the lady added up wrong. You can't exactly get annoyed about that when you've had 3 massive plates of food!
Recommend this restaurant!

great fresh juices - Edit
Junction Sanambin and Pragaern road. Go south Sanambin for about 50m. A big rest with sink roof and horrific wooden 'furniture'. Had better spent the money on roof insulation.

Self service so after eaten, bring your own plate to the back.
