Rural outpost will impress you with its atmosphere and diverse menu - Edit
If you should ever find yourself with a busload of vegans in rural, far northern Thailand, this is by far the best place to bring them. Another sign in front says it's open every day in the cool season.
Read moreFor reasons unknown, it’s hard to find a vegan Massuman curry in Chiang Rai—the only place I know is occasionally at the buffet at Phartom downtown. This place has it and another special curry on the regular menu, as well as several daily “specials” I’ve seen nowhere else.
The pertinent question here is whether it’s worth the trip to go out of one’s way to get here. Obviously, if you’re in the neighborhood already, you’ve got to stop and try it.
For 150 Baht, I wasn’t quite full from two dishes. The curry was tasty, if a bit watery, and could have used some peanuts. Plenty of potatoes and seitan and went nicely over the small bowl of rice. The other I tried was crispy pork over kale, and it had a nice bite to it in addition to using garlic (so unusual for a Thai jie place). The mock pork was made of very different material than I’m used to, almost like a crouton. I definitely will be back to try more on the menu.
The place has a fantastic display and atmosphere on an organic farm, with plants and flowers everywhere, nice, giant fountains on the storefront, and even a kids’ play area. If you sit on the second level and enjoy the views on the backside of the huge building, the sound of traffic from the highway may even be distant. Cute cats roam the premises freely and seem very happy. Everyone’s friendly and welcoming, and the boss speaks English well.

Pros: Huge place with great atmosphere and friendly folk, Lots to choose from on the menu and daily specials, Wifi in the countryside
Cons: About midway between MFLU and Mae Chan, Highway traffic puts a dent in the serenity, Didn't quite fill be up after a long bike ride

Amazing all vegan Thai restaurant - Edit
This restaurant although classed as vegetarian does not serve any animal product. This is an all vegan restaurant which serves Thai food cooked from order. Everything I ordered was delicious and full of flavor. They really nailed the original taste of Thai food without including any animal product. This place is a gem.
