Going Soho Down in Acapulco

Been on the vegan radar for a while so we took the opportunity. Vegan options are a bit of a deep fried festival of sorts. Battered tofu starter was OK but the tofu appeared to be straight out of a packet with limited flavour. The panko fried pumpkin was good with a really tasty curry sauce. My stir fried aubergine was quite tough and hadn’t absorbed much flavour. Won’t be back but credit has to be given to a mildly imaginative vegan menu. Or am I just a soft touch.

Pros: vegan menu

Cons: basic options

A Rainy Night in Soho

Very welcoming restaurant, with nice modern decor and vibe.

The weather was horrendous when I visited with my brother, but the very flavoursome tofu curry made it all worth while. Great deep fried tofu too. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the miso aubergine, which was bland.

Soho have a separate vegan menu consisting of 4 starters and 3 mains, which are inexpensive, but personally I felt the choice was limited.

Separate vegan menu

While this place has a separate vegan menu, the choices aren’t that bountiful. Saying that though, had the katsu curry with tofu and while it was simple, it was super tasty. Filled the gap that’s for sure.

Pros: Separate vegan menu

Cons: Limited menu

Decent

Great place when eating out with non-vegans, but I think there’s better elsewhere if not. Still worth a visit. Service was good but it took a while to get our bill and one of our party’s mains wasn’t served so they had to wait. Selection of drinks good and made well. I do think they could revisit the vegan menu and add some more things as the regular menu is huge; the avocado maki for instance didn’t appear on there but the staff didn’t seem knowlegable enough about dishes like vegetable udon noodles. I will say, the tofu I ate here is some of the best I’ve ever had. The nori on the maki was a little chewy. All round though, a decent and really filling meal (plus drink) for under £20

Pros: Good quality

Cons: Few options

Poor understanding of vegan diet. Gave us fish!

Family of 3 and we ordered from the vegan menu with tofu katsu and okonomoyaki starters, and tofu curry / aubergine donburi mains. We also got edamame beans and sweet potato fries for our toddler.
After a fair wait for our food, the first issue was that the okonomoyaki arrived covered in bonito (fish) flakes. I asked the waitress, who seemed surprised that I didn't want this, despite ordering from the vegan menu. The okonomoyaki was returned and substituted for a vegan version, which was missing the vegan mayo advertised on the menu.
The other dishes were also somewhat different to the menu descriptions in a few cases, for example the katsu tofu had no katsu sauce.
The edamame beans also arrived covered in chilli flakes, which is unfortunate seeing as they were for a toddler, and the chilli was not indicated on the menu and we weren't asked.
The other dishes weren't bad hence 2 stars instead of one.
Overall disappointing and poor awareness of the vegan diet despite offering a vegan menu!!

Nice but wish there was more vegan options!

I had the Pumpkin Curry and Veg Okonomiyaki pancakes (which was my favourite out of the two dishes). Very nice and cozy place with lovely staff. They have a separate vegan menu which is great but feels a little limited in choice . I would love if there were some vegan ramen or soup based dishes too!

Separate vegan menu

There’s a separate vegan menu though it only has Japanese dishes, nothing Korean. Had avocado maki rolls and cabbage pancake. Staff were lovely.

Pleasant place

I was looking for a light meal in a quiet restaurant, and this place was ideal. To be sure, a place that claims to offer both Japanese and Korean food usually offers that that is not quite either—but what they did have was good. I had a fried tofu dish, a cabbage pancake (a bit on the salty side), and miso soup, and came away pleased.

Pros: Pleasant food and atmosphere, Separate vegan menu

Cons: Not overwhelming

Full vegan menu, affordable but not authentic

We had walked past this place many times on our way to Leazes park and I noticed a full vegan menu up on the window and have been eager to try. We booked for a weekday evening. The welcome was not the friendliest, when we entered the staff saw us immediately and we were stood awkwardly near the door and nobody came to welcome us. We had to walk into the restaurant and mention our booking. Once seated our server was very friendly and we were served quickly and the food came quickly. The food was nothing spectacular but was tasty, and nice to have a full vegan menu. It definitely wasn't authentic Japanese/Korean food though, and could have done with more toppings (I like how Asian food usually comes with things like chopped spring opinions, chillies etc). Overall worth going, food is moderately priced, they have Asahi on draft and is in a good location.
