Huge portions, great price - Edit
This is a small Indian grocer that offers takeout meals; it seems to be the type of place that is popular among taxi drivers. I got a very nice vegan Indian takeout meal here for only about 12 bucks. The portions were huge--easily enough for two meals (and lasted me for both lunch and dinner).

Awesome Indian grocery and take-out on the UES - Edit
The Upper East Side (UES) doesn't have a ton of vegan options. I was pleasantly surprised to find this place by doing a search for "vegan food" on Google Maps. It is a small, no-frills Indian grocery store with a decent sized take-out section. They offer a "vegan plate" for $12. Samosas are $2. They also have a paneer plate. Unfortunately they also serve meat. Huge portions!! And delicious! Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. No seating, but there is a park a few blocks away. They will microwave your food for you if you want it "hot." They also offer delivery. Great pre-packaged snacks too. My favorite is the moong dal (fried, salted, split mung beans). So nice to find another reasonably-priced place on the UES with vegan options.
