Fantastic food - great place and staff - Edit
The food was genuinely amazing - unusual flavours that were both very tasty and complementary. Eating there was an adventure: plantain koftas, ipu hulu hulu with such wonders as roasted water melon and pickles, and crispy tofu with thai aubergine . That everything is vegan and gluten free is next level stuff. This is some of the most exciting vegan food I've had in decades. We're already planning a return visit.

An unexpected treat - Edit
This was a real treat as a stop off on our journey back to the north east. A lovely restaurant with enthusiastic, attentive and helpful staff, a great atmosphere and delicious vegan food. There is definitely a bit of a Polynesian style to the food with plenty of coconut and sweet potato and a bit of spice, which can be made zingier if you like. The decor is bright and busy with lots to look at including an octopus exploding out of the wall. I will definitely return next time I am down in the area. Brilliant!

Sweet, salty, spicy, spot on. - Edit
I honestly wish i was a skilled food critic, simply so I could write something more eloquent and befitting of Kanu Poke. The nature of their menu is uniquely explorative, thoroughly inventive, and wonderfully adventurous. Every dish, drink, and accompaniment comes with a story of how it was curated. I've been told on every occasion how my meal has been playfully invented, from inception right through to seasoning. Their food is meticulous, and everything is served with great passion, from both the chefs and servers alike. The restaurant itself is lovely, colourful and vibrant, and perfectly mirrors the food that they serve. A great deal of culinary craftsmanship clearly underpins every plate; they always contain a cacophony of flavours and textures, all of which have been carefully [perfectly] selected to serve a distinct purpose: to please the taste buds (and BOY do they do that), and to create a genuinely amazing dining experience. I've eaten a lot of food in my 38 years, but Kanu Poke has managed to serve up my favourite meal to date.

Surprisingly good - Edit
Everything was great. Atmosphere, attention, food.
Read moreI don't normally like sweet stuff so was a bit out there for me, I started with most of the savoury starters and found them a bit salty, I think if I'd have got a few sweeter fishers it would have balanced perfectly
Pros: Lovely staff, Cool decor, Tasty and very inclusive food
Cons: Bit salty if you're silly like me

Amazing food in a beautiful little restaurant - Edit
We absolutely loved the food in Kanu Poke. The succulent ch*cken was amazing and definitely worth trying. A little disappointed that they had run out of the caramel sauce for the ch*cken and waffles and didnt realise until after they had cooked the food, leaving my husband without the full experience of the dish (good job he had selected the mexican version or that would have been one dry meal) but we have to say that this is one of the more innovative vegan restaurants we have ever been to. Great selection of food, great flavours and amazing staff

How vegan food should be - Edit
F**king hell! This is what vegan food should all be about. Absolutely astonishing, on a completely different level. It was that good!
Read moreI had:
Appetiser: ‘Beef’ jerky.
Mains: Three small plates - Lo Bak Go, Shocked Okra, and Huli Huli Cauliflower.
Desert: Bubble Waffle with Cacao Nib Rum Ice-Cream
Drinks: Serenity, and Bombay Goodboy.
I’ve captioned each photo so you know which dish is which.
The only negative for me was the chilli in the Bombay Goodboy was a touch overpowering, drowning out the rest of the flavours.
Other than that, I absolutely cannot fault this place. The service was friendly and unintrusive, the presentation was well-executed, the atmosphere was perfect, the food was bangin’. Honestly, it might be the nicest Asian inspired vegan food I’ve ever tasted. My evening meal allowance is £25. I spent £42, including a 10% tip.
Even if you’re not a vegan, you’d honestly love it. It’s that good 🌱💚🌱
Pros: The food is incredible , The amount of options, The unique decor
Cons: Not open late enough some days early in the week, Bombay Goodboy was slightly overpowered by chilli

Really enjoyed the Adobo Chic-Kanu and plan to return to try the other hot dishes. Agree with the other review that more hot menu items would be good, BUT they clearly make the ones they do have perfectly.

Excellent Food, Disappointing Service - Edit
They messed up my order and delivered only one bowl, when I ordered two.
Read moreI appreciate that mistakes happen, however, I placed the order at 12:30, it took until 14:00 before the first bowl was delivered, and after I complained to Shrewsbury Eats (delivery provider), it took until roughly 15:30 for my second bowl to arrive, because Shrewsbury Eats were unable to get in touch with the restaurant.
That's 3 hours total, which is far too long. We ended up having to change lunch plans. I do Appreciate that apology from George, but an apology is bare minimum after such a huge delay.
Food is excellent, but service in my experience was not great. I feel that 3 stars is a fair middle ground.
Pros: Excellent food, Bursting with flavour, Amazing presentation
Cons: Botched order, Slow delivery, Disappointing service

Hello there,
Read moreI am incredibly sorry for that order experience, it sounds very frustrating and we totally understand your annoyance.
Just to explain what happened that day. We were having some technical issues with our Shrewsbury eats printing machine, where orders are not translating on the screen to what they print on the ticket. However we have a new system where we look directly at the screen as apposed to the printed out tickets as they are not reliable orders.
Thank you so much for flagging your concern as we do really appreciate the help in being the best we can be!
Next time you pop in, please let us know and we would love to treat you to something off our menu to compensate for your experience.
All the best,
George and Katie 🙂

Loads of flavours - recommended - Edit
This place offers a unique range of food, described as 'Pacific Fusion'. We tried the Adobo Chic-Kanu and one of their Poké bowls, the Ipu Hulu Hulu. Both dishes were superb, and offered a complex taste sensation. We accompanied our meals with some great cocktails and I can certainly recommend the Jungle VIP.

What a fabulous cafe! Super location, vibrantly decorated with wonderful staff and fabulous food. The menu is extensive and very unique. Definitely no burgers here, just good food. My husband had a poke bowl while I had the bubble waffles. Delicious. The miso caramel was genius. Loved the mocktails too. My only disappointment is I live in Ireland so Shrewsbury is a once a year visit. I'm already counting down the days to my next visit.

All vegan restaurant - Edit
I had a poke bowl - it was very tasty and filling. My companions were disappointed there weren't more hot dishes available as it was a cold day when we visited. I have now had two of their desserts that look like cheesecake and they have a strange aftertaste which I think is probably down to the gelatine used - a pity since they look delicious.

You need to make a trip to Shewsbury to visit this phenomenal restaurant!
Read moreWith some fine dining connections behind me, I was of the view that there should not be too many flavours in any one dish, to avoid them competing and overwhelming the taste sensations of the diner. That idea is well and truly laid to rest here. Everything on the plate is bursting with myriad flavours and somehow, it works beautifully.
How this place is gluten and nut free, I do not know. I do know that I have never been able to make TVP taste so incredible.
Not sure what else to say, other than I feel like my life was missing something amazing and I will be forever sad that I don't live closer.
Go visit asap. You won't regret it.

Something different and delicious - Edit
We travelled from Stafford (30 miles) to try out this place after spotting them on Instagram. I wasn’t disappointed. Bright vibes from the minute you walking, with fab service and an open kitchen. It was exciting to have a menu where I didn’t know what most of the things were. They know this, though, so bring out a sample of their PIPIKAULA to try and I was sold. It’s a Hawaiian dish usually beef! You can see the chef has a passion for plant-based food and that comes across and everything from the way it’s served to the taste and texture.! my partner had a waffle, Mexican style, which, if you’re not a fan of sweet things be warned, don’t put all the Maple dressing on! He was gutted, he sabotaged his own meal by accident! I had the pipikaula on my original poké bowl with EDAMAME BEANS, PICKLED CARROTS, PINEAPPLE, CUCUMBER, RED CABBAGE, SAMPHIRE, TAKUAN. Garnished with: PICKLED GINGER, SPRING ONION, CHILLI & SESAME SEEDS and opted for FOR COCONUT BLACK RICE INSTEAD OF SUSHI RICE. My partner had Fried Mochiko Chic-Kanu & bubble waffle with maple syrup, Mexican style (spicer) which was also epic.
Read moreFor an early lunch, we had blood orange and cherry blossom teas, but my goodness the cocktail menu looked amazing too, lots of rum!
We’ll be back with our foodie vegan toddler soon or open another in Staffordshire please! A portion of the service charge goes to Shropshire wildlife trust as well!

Cons: No nuts!

Loved all the food which was so original and really flavourful - especially the turnip cake with Sesame Mushrooms (sorry I can’t remember the proper name) which was on the specials board.
