Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Nice atmosphere, as they prepare the food right in front of you!

Full of veggies! - Edit
Staff seem very accommodating and understanding of vegetarian requirements. When we ordered the vegetable okonomiyaki they confirmed what we could and couldn't eat so we were very reassured.

If you’re looking for an interesting, authentic Japanese dinner experience, look no further than Kamehameha. You can find it in the Teramachi shopping arcade in Kyoto.
Here, you can eat authentically-prepared Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. You sit at the grill and watch the talented chef prepare it right in front of your eyes.
The vegan menu is available on request, and only seems to be in English. Which is disappointing because when our Vegetable Deluxe okonomiyaki was done, the lady next to us remarked at how tasty it looked. Maybe she would have ordered it herself, had she known it was there?
At 1700 yen (plus the one drink required), dinner came out to about 2100 yen per person. Not exactly cheap, but we were happy with our meal. It was fun to watch, and even more fun to eat 😋 #Veganuary

Vegan okonomiyaki - Edit
I was very excited that finally I'd be able to try okonomiyaki in Japan (there are literally no vegan options around), however I was rather disappointed. The vegan one had about three times as much sauce as the non-vegan, and its flavour overpowered everything. It was also too sweet and salty. My non-vegan friend wasn't deeply impressed either.

Absolutely loved it here. I was with a friend who isn't a vegan, and we both had a fantastic meal. Also had a lovely conversation with the staff, all in all an amazing experience!

A small restaurant, so be prepared to wait a little while for a table- but it’s well worth it. The food is cooked in front of you by very friendly chefs and tastes delicious. Never tried Okonomiyaki before but will definitely be seeking it out again. Was slightly worried there might be meat cooked on the same area as the vegan options but everything is prepped especially for each dish. A great evening all in all.

Best Okonomiyaki ever! - Edit
What a great experience! We went for dinner and had the 3 course of the VEGAN menu! We sat in front of the chef as he was preparing the food. My former omnivorous boyfriend with ample okonomiyaka experience loved it, and said it didn’t miss any egg or squid (traditionally in okonomiyaki). Try the noodles-rice dish or the Japanese dumplings of the vegan menu (ask for this separate menu). So worth the trip! It is also in a nice neighborhood, full of game halls and cool pop-up stores, as well as some traditional shrines and bars.

Tiny restaurant with a warm and friendly ambiance. The food is delicious...Not enough superlatives to describe it. The chef will adapt the dishes to suit vegans and vegetarians. Try the okonomaki!

Thery have amazing vegan okonomiyaki and other options (I only tried okonomiyaki)
It comes with 3 types of mushrooms and I dont even like mushrooms, but ot was still amazing!!
BTW - I almost didn't go because of the reviews here saying how they cook on same iron plate with fish, but when I ordered vegan he cleaned up the plate and his cooking tools before he started cooking my vegan one
Pros: Amazing food, Cleans up the iron plate before making vegan, Very friendly staff and vegan menu
Cons: relativaly expensive , You have to buy at least 1 drink

Be really clear - Edit
The restaurant is nice and small/cozy. They don't have a lot of vegan options. I said "I'm vegan: no eggs, dairy, etc", the waitress understood what I was talking about straight away, but the cook tried to add an egg anyway when finishing my okonomiyaki. Maybe I was not clear enough and it was a mistake (language barrier is always there). He apologized and just took back the egg before adding it to the dish. Mushrooms tasted like fish because were cooked almost together with my friend's shrimps, so make sure that the person cooking the dish knows that you are vegan and what that means!

Ichiban Vegan Okonomiyaki! - Edit
Very fun experience! There was a separate vegan menu with 2 mains and lots of sides to choose from. Only difference between regular and vegan okonomiyaki was the egg, which we didn’t miss. Delicious either way! We didn’t have a reservation so we were seated at the side table (not around the grill), but after we had our appetizer and some other people left, the server offered to move us.
Read moreThe chef used a different area of the grill for our vegan dishes and different utensils. He did wipe down the grill between meat and vegan cooking. Much better to have a view of your dinner being cooked! It is more on the expensive side, but worth it for us.

Incredible! - Edit
Would give 5 stars if I could. Amazing food and an amazing experience too - they cook right in front of you and it’s mesmerizing to watch. Friendly staff and they know the differences between vegetarian and vegan. They do cook everything on the same griddle though, so beware if you’re cognizant of cross contamination. (Although if we’re being honest with ourselves, this cross contamination probably happens all the time, it just happens on a kitchen right in front of you this time...)

5 stars in my oponion - Edit
The cook is some crazy Kami and is cooking in front of you. Of course you gotta live with the fact that he's preparing meat meals and stuff with eggs as well (unfortunately that's still the world we're living in) but I kept an eye on him after ordering my vegan noodle meal and he made sure the place where he prepared it was clean before and he used separate cooking tools to do it so I'm fine. Also both, him and the waitress spoke english well. I had to wait a bit for my food but the taste just made me forget about the waiting time. Probably the most delicious asian noodles I've ever had.

Tasty but cooked very near meat with same utensils - Edit
This was a fun experience trying vegan okonomiyaki but bear in mind that your food will be cooked on a hot plate in front of you right next to all the meat/egg options and with the same utensils. If you're okay with this (I was very hungry and lots of places had already shut, so I decided I was okay with it...) then you'll have a tasty fun time

Went there on my first day in Kyoto because it was the closest restaurant with vegan dishes. Very friendly staff that will happily help you veganise the food. Great okonomiyaki - Edit
The vegetarian okonomiyaki I had here was the best I had during my three weeks in Japan. We came back twice during our time in Kyoto. The staff are really friendly and we enjoyed watching the food being cooked in front of us. My husband had non vegetarian food and also really enjoyed this. Highly recommended (I would give it 5 stars if I could)!
