Great place

Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Nice atmosphere, as they prepare the food right in front of you!

They try to adapt everything to be vegan, if you ask for it, but many dishes won't work out without egg, like the garlic pizza.

Pros: Many vegetarian options, Service speaks English , Amazing flavors

Cons: Many dishes don't work out without egg

Full of veggies!

Staff seem very accommodating and understanding of vegetarian requirements. When we ordered the vegetable okonomiyaki they confirmed what we could and couldn't eat so we were very reassured.
Brilliant ambience and delicious Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. We thought the cost was a little more expensive than other okonomiyaki in the area, but it was beautifully made and stuffed full of veggies and noodles. We did not go hungry!

Pros: Good understanding of dietary requirements, Lots of different vegetables

An experience worth having

If you’re looking for an interesting, authentic Japanese dinner experience, look no further than Kamehameha. You can find it in the Teramachi shopping arcade in Kyoto.

Here, you can eat authentically-prepared Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. You sit at the grill and watch the talented chef prepare it right in front of your eyes.

The vegan menu is available on request, and only seems to be in English. Which is disappointing because when our Vegetable Deluxe okonomiyaki was done, the lady next to us remarked at how tasty it looked. Maybe she would have ordered it herself, had she known it was there?

At 1700 yen (plus the one drink required), dinner came out to about 2100 yen per person. Not exactly cheap, but we were happy with our meal. It was fun to watch, and even more fun to eat 😋 #Veganuary

Vegan okonomiyaki

I was very excited that finally I'd be able to try okonomiyaki in Japan (there are literally no vegan options around), however I was rather disappointed. The vegan one had about three times as much sauce as the non-vegan, and its flavour overpowered everything. It was also too sweet and salty. My non-vegan friend wasn't deeply impressed either.

Pros: Vegan okonomiyaki

Cons: One drink person, Way too expensive

Very friendly chef + staff, amazing food with great vegan option!

Absolutely loved it here. I was with a friend who isn't a vegan, and we both had a fantastic meal. Also had a lovely conversation with the staff, all in all an amazing experience!

Gorgeous food, great atmosphere

A small restaurant, so be prepared to wait a little while for a table- but it’s well worth it. The food is cooked in front of you by very friendly chefs and tastes delicious. Never tried Okonomiyaki before but will definitely be seeking it out again. Was slightly worried there might be meat cooked on the same area as the vegan options but everything is prepped especially for each dish. A great evening all in all.

Pros: Delicious food, Great atmosphere , Good location

Allow a five star rating I swear

AMAZING best food we’ve had in Japan/our lives

Don’t deprive yourselves

Eat this bloody food

(And don’t stress one smidge about the vegan options - all you have to do is say your dietary preference and they’ll sort you)

Pros: Amazing, Amazing, Amazing

Cons: Want more, Want even more, Want even more even more

Best Okonomiyaki ever!

What a great experience! We went for dinner and had the 3 course of the VEGAN menu! We sat in front of the chef as he was preparing the food. My former omnivorous boyfriend with ample okonomiyaka experience loved it, and said it didn’t miss any egg or squid (traditionally in okonomiyaki). Try the noodles-rice dish or the Japanese dumplings of the vegan menu (ask for this separate menu). So worth the trip! It is also in a nice neighborhood, full of game halls and cool pop-up stores, as well as some traditional shrines and bars.

Pros: Vegan menu with traditional Japanese , Charming chef cooks in front of you , Quite quick if you want it to be (less than 1h)

Cons: Rather expensive but so worth it

How do you say 'mega delicious' in Japanese?

Tiny restaurant with a warm and friendly ambiance. The food is delicious...Not enough superlatives to describe it. The chef will adapt the dishes to suit vegans and vegetarians. Try the okonomaki!

Pros: Creative chef, Acommodates all kinds of dietary needs or requirem, Warm and friendly

Cons: None

WOW WOW WOW!!!

Do whatever it takes to come to this restaurant!
It is delicious!
Thery have amazing vegan okonomiyaki and other options (I only tried okonomiyaki)
It comes with 3 types of mushrooms and I dont even like mushrooms, but ot was still amazing!!
BTW - I almost didn't go because of the reviews here saying how they cook on same iron plate with fish, but when I ordered vegan he cleaned up the plate and his cooking tools before he started cooking my vegan one

Pros: Amazing food, Cleans up the iron plate before making vegan, Very friendly staff and vegan menu

Cons: relativaly expensive , You have to buy at least 1 drink

Be really clear

The restaurant is nice and small/cozy. They don't have a lot of vegan options. I said "I'm vegan: no eggs, dairy, etc", the waitress understood what I was talking about straight away, but the cook tried to add an egg anyway when finishing my okonomiyaki. Maybe I was not clear enough and it was a mistake (language barrier is always there). He apologized and just took back the egg before adding it to the dish. Mushrooms tasted like fish because were cooked almost together with my friend's shrimps, so make sure that the person cooking the dish knows that you are vegan and what that means!

Pros: You can see how food is cooked

Cons: Little bit expensive and not "pure vegan process"

The best food I have had in Japan this far (been here a week). They knew what vegan meant and had a vegan menu.

Pros: Amazing food, Nice staff, Good for meat eaters as well

Amazing experience and food!

Firstly the staff was friendly and they have a vegan menu!! The starters were amazing (salad with mushrooms, tofu, rice dumplings
The okonomiyaki itself was made infront of us and the chef was super funny and nice, it was delicious!!!! And also my entire family had something to eat there (not just for vegans) so it made it a nicer experience since they didn’t eat complain at all
We all enjoyed the food and the environment we recommend and definitely will be back!!

Maybe try to reserve a place

Pros: Vegan menu!, Friendly chef and staff, You can watch the food being made

Cons: Small place not a lot of sitting area, Same grill for meat and fish , Accepts cash only

Ichiban Vegan Okonomiyaki!

Very fun experience! There was a separate vegan menu with 2 mains and lots of sides to choose from. Only difference between regular and vegan okonomiyaki was the egg, which we didn’t miss. Delicious either way! We didn’t have a reservation so we were seated at the side table (not around the grill), but after we had our appetizer and some other people left, the server offered to move us.

The chef used a different area of the grill for our vegan dishes and different utensils. He did wipe down the grill between meat and vegan cooking. Much better to have a view of your dinner being cooked! It is more on the expensive side, but worth it for us.

Pros: Delicious Food, Fun atmosphere

Cons: More on the expensive side

Incredible!

Would give 5 stars if I could. Amazing food and an amazing experience too - they cook right in front of you and it’s mesmerizing to watch. Friendly staff and they know the differences between vegetarian and vegan. They do cook everything on the same griddle though, so beware if you’re cognizant of cross contamination. (Although if we’re being honest with ourselves, this cross contamination probably happens all the time, it just happens on a kitchen right in front of you this time...)

Pros: Great experience, Traditional setting, English menu with labeled vegetarian options

Cons: Expensive

5 stars in my oponion

The cook is some crazy Kami and is cooking in front of you. Of course you gotta live with the fact that he's preparing meat meals and stuff with eggs as well (unfortunately that's still the world we're living in) but I kept an eye on him after ordering my vegan noodle meal and he made sure the place where he prepared it was clean before and he used separate cooking tools to do it so I'm fine. Also both, him and the waitress spoke english well. I had to wait a bit for my food but the taste just made me forget about the waiting time. Probably the most delicious asian noodles I've ever had.

Pros: really delicious noodle meal, waitress speaks english well, usage of separate cooking tools for vegan meals

Cons: serves non-vegan and meaty meals as well, might take a little before you get your food

Great to try okonomiyaki!

I was so happy there was a place to try this famous dish! The staff were very kind and friendly, and knowledgable of vegan food!

Really good vegan version of okonomiyaki, super tasty.

They also had another option which I didn’t get chance to try, but I’m sure it’s also good!

Tasty but cooked very near meat with same utensils

This was a fun experience trying vegan okonomiyaki but bear in mind that your food will be cooked on a hot plate in front of you right next to all the meat/egg options and with the same utensils. If you're okay with this (I was very hungry and lots of places had already shut, so I decided I was okay with it...) then you'll have a tasty fun time

Delicious Japanese food

Went there on my first day in Kyoto because it was the closest restaurant with vegan dishes. Very friendly staff that will happily help you veganise the food. You can choose between smaller dishes and main dishes. The vegetable okonomiyaki was very tasty and fresh! Although the food is more on the expensive side it was definitely worth it.

Pros: Staff knows what vegan means , Food can be veganised, Nice atmosphere

Cons: A little expensive

Great okonomiyaki

The vegetarian okonomiyaki I had here was the best I had during my three weeks in Japan. We came back twice during our time in Kyoto. The staff are really friendly and we enjoyed watching the food being cooked in front of us. My husband had non vegetarian food and also really enjoyed this. Highly recommended (I would give it 5 stars if I could)!
