Vegan-friendly deli and grocery store - Edit
Great grocery store/deli with a bit of everything. A piece of Ottawa's vegan history. Try the samosas!

Fresh produce and lots of vegan items - Edit
Large store, with fresh produce, frozen, chilled, packaged food, including many vegan items. Bulk foods and spices, teas, snacks, chocolate, etc. Separate section for wellness products: enter from main store or entrance around the corner.

Cute health food store - Edit
These are my kind of people! All the off the wall brands and items that are hard to find elsewhere are right here. I found some amazing fresh gluten free and vegan bagels, along with an assortment of non-dairy yogurts. They also have a bulk section which I appreciate. Their produce also looked very fresh and well maintained. Lastly, they have baked goods from Strawberry Blonde Bakery, a gluten free and vegan treat spot. So many good things! To top it off, there's a well-stocked supplement section in the back.

Love it! - Edit
Beautiful building. Staff aren’t very friendly but lots of great products. I love to sit at their bar by the front window and enjoy one of their baked treats and a drink!

Local, vegan options, cute plants! - Edit
Great store with so many options, Hard not to go in with only one item on your list and come out with 10! Every time I go in I see products I have never seen before, great place to go to find new and interesting ingredients!
Read moreThey have also added their health/skin care/beauty/vitamins section that was previously accross the street to their main location which makes it easier to shop for both food and lifestyle items!
Pros: So many options!, Friendly staff., Cute plants!
Cons: The space is a bit small, can get tight.

Everything You Need - Edit
The prices are pretty reasonable for most things. The customer service is atrocious. I have lived in the area for 15 years and have shopped here consistently despite the way they treat clients. The cashiers are often too busy talking to address or serve you. The floor staff is pretty helpful. Much better service at the Wellness Shop before they merged back into the food shop.

Cons: hit or miss staff, some rude staff, insect pests in veggies sometimes

Go-to for bulk - Edit
Herb & Spice has been my go-to for bulk in the downtown area for years. I can often find obscure ingredients that I’m looking for as well. Reasonably priced.

Canadian Wholefoods - Edit
A lot of vegan meals and options, nicely laid out and very relaxed feel. It is quite expensive, a bit like wholefoods or planet organic, but if you just want to treat yourself or are desperate for fruit/veg (or a vegan pizza!) then this is a rly nice shop. It also had vegan cookies when I went so if you like them then that’s a plus.

A little gem, not for the frugal - Edit
For locals, the very location of Herb & Spice tells you that this is no simple grocery store, but instead a “boutique” version” of one. Located in trendy westboro, it draws the majority of its clientele from those who can afford to live there. The produce, for the most part, is all organic and fresh. There’s also a welcome emphasis on the support of local companies, with the air pleasantly filled with the aroma of local, ethically sourced coffee. There’s a good assortment of vegan items, including ready to eat items ( quite pricy). For those of us on a more moderate budget, it’s still a great place to pick up a few items, but not where one could afford to buy groceries for a family for a week. The staff is all helpful and health conscious, though I was a bit disappointed that a few knew little about why organic produce may be a healthier, more environmentally sound purchase.

Pretty nice store - Edit
We stayed in the heart of downtown so this place couldn't be more convenient. We came primarily to get some organic fruit for breakfast and got what we wanted. They were quite well-stocked and had a bit of everything that you would expect from a health food store. I just wished there were better to-go meal options.

The Herb - Edit
Used to be good when owned by David, then awful when owned by Susan, now Great when owned by Jacques. The staff is educated, helpful and funky. The choice of goods excellent for the size of the store. They will take special orders. The bulk food area has been gussied us with clear dispensing bins. There are gloves for serving yourself. The place is clean for the amount of traffic. The deli area is great for a quick fix, and the soups are fresh daily! The bakery has great choices. The cosmetics, fresh fruits & veggies, freezer, dairy case, bulk, juices & drinks, teas and condiments, gluten free, healthy junk food, raw, etc is all good.

Good vegan baked goods - Edit
We tried some Auntie Loo's stuff (spice cake, butterscotch banana bread, earl grey cupcake, and a non-Auntie Loo peanut butter chocolate rice krispie treat. We didn't buy anything else, but we perused the store, and it looked like there were a lot of interesting products, good vegan options, typical pricing, and a pretty big selection overall. If I lived nearby, I'm sure I'd shop there frequently.
