Delicious Vegan Option - Edit
If you haven’t experienced the magic of Gongfu’s bao, stop everything and fix that immediately. This little shop may be small, but its flavours are anything but.
Read moreI tried the 5-Spice Lion’s Mane Bao, and wow. Who knew lion’s mane mushrooms could be this good? They were perfectly fried and paired with spicy cucumber, crisp lo bok, and a lineup of fresh herbs and sesame that made every bite a flavour explosion.
The place itself is cozy and cute, with a vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. As a vegan, finding such creative and delicious options feels like hitting the jackpot. Gongfu, you’ve officially raised the bao game, and I’m so happy I got to try it during my visit. Ottawa, you’re lucky to have this gem.

Great vegan baos! - Edit
Went to vegan night and all the baos we tried were delicious! Definitely get the deep fried mushrooms as a starter. Love the community vibes of this place. Would give it 5 stars if the app would let me.

Vegan Baos are very rare. A place that is dedicated to vegan food - Edit
On a Saturday, nine of us visited this small cozy restaurant. The attendant was kind to let us all sit together within a few minutes. On a good day there are fair number of tables on the sidewalk as well.
Read moreWe had many different items and some of them we shared although some of them have visited on Wednesday their all vegan day, they pleasantly surprised of the the items they had our first we were blown away.
We had Vegan Brekkie Bun - a Just (vegan)Egg topped with vegan cheeze, tomato and chili crisp. Absolute gem. The chilli crisp made all the difference. If all breakfast sandwiches were like this. Take this McD and TH - you can never do this.
5 Spice Tofu Bun - a massive burger of deep fried crisp spiced Tofu topped with relish, lettuce, on a home made bun. To eat you must cut in half or it is huge. But the burger was again absolute gem. Would have loved fries with it to make it a typical burger meal. However my side was…
Congee - a simple dish of far east. Family and me were ready for a bland bowl of Congee. The first spoon I had and if the above two dishes were 10/10, this was off the charts. The gentle Ginger taste with some mushrooms and deep fried golden garlic. Creamy rice in every spoon and this was heavenly.
The Ratio Coffee was disappointing and Lemon Tea was good. I wish this was not 500kms away for us. I wish we could visit on every Wednesday
Pros: Congee, Vegan Brekkie , 5 Spice Fried Tofu Bun (burger)
Cons: Closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday

This place delivers some of the tastiest and flavourful vegan food in town! Their baos are fantastic, and their rice bowls are just as good. Try their vegan puff balls for desert too!

They had one vegan option for dinner and it was really good. It’s a lot of interesting flavours that you don’t eat usually. Recommend!

Best Bao in Ottawa - Edit
I cannot say enough good things about Gongfu Bao - this place is so underrated! They used to be just a takeout counter, but recently they renovated a small space for dining in. The booths are small and cozy. Service is really quick and friendly, and there are loads of vegan options on the menu. The red-braised tofu Bao is absolutely delicious: crispy and saucy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. The Bao buns are homemade and so fluffy! A serving includes 2 Bao, which looks small but is actually super filling. The Toban slaw is a must too. Overall, I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for the best Bao in Ottawa!
