Just Okay, Only One Vegan Dish. - Edit
It is well known among locals that the cafe in Y Galeri has (historically) been nothing short of capricious. The café bar has now been under new management as of 2024, so I thought I'd finally stop by and give it a try this morning.
Read moreThe cafe has had a much needed uplift since I last ate here (probably over ten years ago), and the space is now light and airy. There is a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating, and it was great to see lots of local art for sale inside. They appear to run a very smell menu that is available to view online. The menu contains three vegetarian options and one vegan option (Avacado on Toast). However, when inside the cafe, they were not using this menu and instead had one written up on their backboard. This contained fewer vegetarian options and included the same single vegan option, although it was not labelled as vegan on the board.
The Avacado on Toast is avacado butter, tomato, white beans, red pepper, and homemade pesto on toasted sourdough bread. The presentation was nicely done, and the dish was tasty. The food was the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the accompanying Oat Flat White I had with my meal was very poor, and it was honestly a struggle to finish it. I haven't read any other negative reviews about their coffee, so hopefully, this was just a one-off. Soya milk was also available.
There is much room for improvement at Y Galeri Café Bar when it comes to the vegan options they offer. Hopefully, when they next change their menu, it will contain greater vegan options!

Great Breakfast, lovely Cafe - Edit
Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu, with a variety of barista milks as well. We went for the chickpea scramble and avocado on toast. Firstly, the portion was HUGE, we didn't even need to eat lunch! Secondly, I was a little bit worried when it arrived that it would be dry, as often gram flour based scramble can be, but it wasn't. The chickpea scramble was seasoned perfectly and went really well with the avocado. At a stretch I would have wanted a squirt of sriracha, but overall it was a great breakfast in a wonderful setting in the art gallery/cinema next to the harbour.

Disappointing mush - Edit
Found this place via Happy Cow app but was very unimpressed with my meal. I had the chick pea burger which came on a cheap white roll and was buttered with (hopefully vegan) margarine. Burger was soggy and the whole thing collapsed within moments of being picked up to bite into.
Read moreThe atmosphere of the place - Sunday lunchtime - was strange. Everything was just a mess, haphazard chairs everywhere and table taking ages to be cleared.
If I’m back in the area again I won’t be returning!
Pros: Nice view
Cons: Weird atmosphere , Rubbish food
