Excellent fusion cuisine - Edit
I first came to Chef Hedy’s community kitchen when she made her first attempt at a vegan banquet in August 2019 using rescued organic produce from local markets. The banquet-style meals have a suggested contribution of NT$300 to cover their minimum operating costs, but you’re welcome to give as much as you’d like. The experience is basically like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet except very intimate and communal since you ask your neighboring dining companions to help serve you the dishes not within easy sitting reach.
Read moreSince then, I’ve returned every month with a private party of Taichung Vegan & Vegetarian Eating Facebook Group. This and the support of many other veg*ns is helping Chef Hedy transition towards a vegan lifestyle. (She personally remarked that meat no longer has the same taste appeal to her as before.)
In January 2020, Chef Hedy began offering vegan bento boxes for dine-in and take-out (BYO container) via reservations at least one day in advance. (Message her on Facebook or give her a call.) The choices change frequently, so you’ll likely never get bored. I’ve tried two different ones and have enjoyed them both! One featured a vegan foie gras croquette, and the other had two naan handpies. All bentos come with some cooked produce and a lovely seasonal salad.
Keep patronizing the local businesses that are making the vegan transition. Perhaps she’ll have enough demand for vegan meals that she can abandon animal products altogether!
Pros: very vegan-friendly, zero-waste, intimate atmosphere
Cons: reservations required
