Veggie Heaven

In my opinion veggies should make this their first port of call in Angra. We only found out about it via Happycow and we’re so glad we did! Make sure you mention that you’re vegetarian/vegan – not because you won’t find veggie food otherwise (there’s an entire section on the menu for vegetarians) but because the kitchen staff love experimenting with new foods and there’s every chance you’ll be able to order something delicious off-menu. I was recommended kofte with quinoa, beans and carrot and it was genuinely the tastiest thing I had in the whole fortnight in the Azores.

It’s also in a lovely location overlooking the harbour and the friendliest place we ate in during our time there. The place is really trying to fill the gap in good vegetarian food in Angra (and the Azores in general) - from our experience it deserves every success it gets.

Pros: Ethical ethos, Outstanding 'off menu' options, Friendliest service we encountered

Wonderful with an entire Veg Menu!

Beautiful little cafe with a brand-new Vegetarian/Vegan menu! Wonderful, knowledgeable service with flexibility on cooking to suit one’s dietary preference. Many options from which to choose. My terrific server, Ricardo, spoke 5 languages. Will return often to try the many veg options. Chefs of Turkish descent made fabulous hummus and falafel dishes. Fantastic find in Angra near the sea! Very reasonably priced with wonderful red wine from Batalha for just 2E a glass. See pics for veg menu (definitely 5* but since meat is served only 4* is highest possible)

Amazing food and lovely staff

What an amazing experience! The food, the staff and the location make Captain's Table a must-visit restaurant.

As a vegan and vegetarian, we really had to look for good-quality restaurants that had something to offer. Captain's Table has a few nice dishes on the menu. The food is expertly prepared and very tasty. Most ingredients are locally sourced and organic. We went here twice: the first night we had a nut roast and the lentil balls as a main. The second night they had prepared borek, a Turkish filo pastry dish, filled with veggies. For dessert we had tiramisu, and they also had us taste the magnolia pudding. Everyting was extremely tasty; you could taste that it was prepared with love and attention.

The restaurant is run by lovely people. We were served by Ricardo both nights, who was spirited, friendly and keen to share how the food was prepared and where it came from. The owners, Hickmet and Yasmin (I hope I got the names correct) came out of the kitchen to check on the guests. We ended up having drinks with them for the rest of the evening. They really made us feel welcome :).

Bottom line: go here. We've tried quite a few restaurants in Terceira, and most were mediocre at best. Captain's Table is a cut above the rest.

Bonus tip: one of the owners, Yasmin, makes jewellery. You can find a selection on offer on the wall of the restaurant. They're very nice :)!

Pros: Fantastic food, Lovely staff, Lovely decoration and view

Cons: Serves meat & fish
