Vegan pie

I used to love the Beechworth bakery growing up living near Beechworth. I have interviewed the owner years ago and asked him for vegan options. I am so glad they are finally are! The veggie, chickpea curry pie is nice and I also enjoyed the vegan donut. The chilli con carne pie had fake meat in it and tomato and bean base. It was a bit scary, meaty for me.
I used to love the Beestings and the Bavarian rings. I so so wish they would make vegan versions of them!!! Hopefully one day.....

Ok, not great

I’ve been told a few times their bread isn’t vegan, as it contains animal fat…so unsure why they have been listed on hc. I’ve also been told their pies & pastries are brushed with egg or milk by staff.
They have a vegan donut, but most staff have no idea what the difference is. It’s super sticky and super sweet. I’ve had better.
So the jury’s out for me until I get a clear understanding from staff what is actually vegan and that they understand vegan, which is a bit hard to ask at the moment with restrictions on numbers in store.

Cons: Staff may have no idea what vegan actually means.

Hi Tabitha, we are so sorry for the confusion and misinformation! As of earlier this year, we have changed our bread recipe to use 100% vegetable fat in every bread product (yay!). We do not brush the pastry with egg or milk (and haven't for a long time), so we do hope you give our vegan pie a try! The Indian Vegie Curry Pie is very popular, and we are introducing a second vegan pie within the next month.😉
This has been communicated with the Bendigo store to ensure that all staff understand what is vegan in store. I will also pass on your feedback regarding the Glazed Donut.
