Vietnamese
Non-veg
Serves meat, vegan options available. Small eatery near the main street in Cat Ba Town whose staff speak English. Has a separate vegetarian section on the menu which is almost entirely vegan. Also other items on the menu happen to be vegan. Relocated from Pho Am Thuc. Open Mon-Sun 7:00am-9:00pm.

Not good imo - Edit
The black coffee here was honestly really unpleasant, and the curry wasn't very tasty or fresh (maybe my fault for ordering an Indian dish). The place also had a bad vibe in general unfortunately. The positive was this place is cheap for Cat Ba, but I wouldn't recommend it

Cute restaurant - Edit
Such a great little place to stop by and get some lunch or dinner. It’s always a lovely atmosphere because it is attached to a hostel, so you’re sure to make some friends while dining. The owner is so kind and happy to chat with you, especially about cultural differences.
Read moreThere aren’t a ton of fully vegan options. When I’m traveling I’m a bit more lax on this, so if you’re willing to have some egg or dairy there are a lot of great menu items that you would enjoy! The condensed milk coffee here is honestly some of the best I’ve had on the island.
Pros: Lively , Tasty food , Great coffee
Cons: Not a ton of fully vegan options

Really delicious noodles!! - Edit
I had the Vietnamese mixed noodles and they were the best food I’ve tasted in Vietnam during my two weeks here. Absolutely delicious! They currently have two workawayers there who speak English and Vietnamese and can help with anything. The local staff also speak good English and they make the food to order. Big portions that will fill you up! I’ve eaten there a few times, and have talked to others who are there, and the mixed noodles (glass noodles) were everyone’s favourites (40k)

some options, price ok - Edit
very popular restaurant with outside seating. cheap. they have some vegan options that are not clearly marked. the papaya salad I tried was not tasty but plain vegetables and banana flower salad were ok. veg pad Thai was delicious tho (the best food I got in catba)(they put eggs in all pad Thai so make sure you let them know you want it without eggs and fish sauce).

Nice vegetarian options and good value - Edit
We stayed at the hostel attached so had a nice short walk for dinner one night. We ignored the vegetarian page and instead chose the vegetarian versions of things on the local food pages. The vegetable and tofu pad Thai and vegetable and tofu curry were both really good, and slightly bigger portions than we'd found elsewhere. There's also a filter tap for topping up water bottles which is handy.

Little restaurant attached to the hostel - Edit
If you stay at the hostel you can get free breakfast here, for vegans it's fruits or bread with jam.
Read moreWe also had dinner here a few times. The spring rolls are absolutely amazing. Make sure to tell them no egg. The other time I had some Pho which tasted absolutely plain. I wouldn't recommend it.

Curry is ok - Edit
There are two Yummy restaurants, quite different from each other. In each of them Ive ordered curry with rice and it seemed like completely different dish, still quite tasty. Ive had also banh mi with tofu and it was ok but there was to fee vegetables and I couldnt really taste any sauce. Still I recommend this restaurant, food is quite nice.

Different to many of the tourist places. - Edit
Slightly away from most of the local eateries. Great food, good prices and excellent staff - what's not to like?

Okay - Edit
The first dish I had (veg, tofu) wasn't nice at all, no flavour and onion over kill. The other noodle dishes including the Pad Thai were nice. The guy doesn't really speak English but knows the important questions to ask e.g. with or without egg. Prepare yourself for getting asked very quickly what you want to order.

Would never eat there again - Edit
Worst food we've had in a long time. I ordered the banana flower salad and the dressing tasted like nothing and spicy tofu sichuan which was just soggy tofu in a wierd garlic-gravy sauce. Not sure if it was vegan at all because my boyfriend had the mushrooms in cream sauce and that contained milk eventhough the waiter said it was ok to make it all vegan.

It was nice to discover a restaurant with a good variety of veggie options in the menu. The fresh springrolls were nice and the steamed veggies and tofu with rice and soy sauce were also tasty. (Together 40VND)

Okay place, not that vegan-savvy - Edit
I’m not sure if the management here has changed or something, but from our impression it doesn’t seem as vegan-friendly as it used to be. Older reviews mentioned a friendly lady owner and staff that are both familiar with vegan requirements, but we went here twice and didn’t see a lady working either time. The guy that served us didn’t seem to speak much English so I don’t trust they would understand us requesting dishes to be vegan. We were then served egg in the fried spring rolls although we had specifically asked for no egg.
Read moreOn the plus side, the fresh spring rolls, papaya salad, and sweet & sour tofu were quite nice. Fries with pepper sauce was decent too but a really small portion.
It’s a very basic kind of eatery which I have nothing against - but you can find the same dishes for a similar price at other places that have nicer atmosphere. So overall not really somewhere I would prefer to go back to.
Pros: cheap, casual local place
Cons: were served egg by mistake

Like everyone else stated, great value for money. Decent portions and friendly service. Enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. If you order juice make sure you ask for no sugar to be added, unless you don't mind.
