Local place, nice variety - Edit
Loacted in a shady looking street. A lot of kinds of vegetarian food. Its cheap and they are so nice despite not knowing English, They went out of their way to bring my parents a pair of forks because there were only chopsticks.

Best value for money - Edit
Incredibly cheap buffet near Shilin MRT station. Lots of options to choose from, and you can have some soup for free. Owners are really friendly, and offer a discount if you're coming after rush hour.

Good and really cheap - Edit
Seems like taiwanese Standard, lots of choices for little money in the end. Could be warmer, but why complaining, when you pay less then 3 Euro for the whole meal.

Amazing cheap buffet - Edit
Get a box or a plate and pick everything you want, then a staff member will weight what you took and you'll pay.
Read moreMostly for takeout, but there're 3~4 tables if you want to dine in.
There are a lot options and they were all delicious.
The staff members are lovely, and speak a few words of english.
They also offer rice.
Complimentary soup and hot water.
Uodate: I go there often, the food is always good and the staff super nice. I usually pay arround NTD100 for a filling meal.

Cheap and authentic - Edit
Very small, but nice and charming restaurant. It feels like you eat in the living room of the family which runs it. Great selection of vegan/ vegetarian food which tastes very yummy. No AC unfortunately when we were there and very little space to seat. And when you are there between regular lunch and dinner time, the selection of meals might be a bit lower.

Cheap n Nice - Edit
Small eateries with plenty of choices. Pay-by-weight. We reached there at 8pm on a Sat night so not much dishes left even though it closes at 9:30pm. However, after 7:30pm all pay-by-weight dishes will be at 20% discount. NT10 for a bowl of short grain rice. We ordered a plate of fried rice for NT100. Or u may choose NT75 for child serving. However, their Fried rice is very oily.

Cons: Most dishes very too oily

I picked the wrong day to go! - Edit
I ended up here after coming back on the bus from the national Palace Museum to the metro station. It was late by the time I finally found them, around 7 PM. There wasn't a lot left. I found out that this was because Monday was their special discount day, and I had managed to get there on a Monday. I managed to find enough to eat, but there was no tea and not even any water to drink! Their English speaker was very nice though.

Great place for a Quick Fix - Edit
Turns out that this place has been here for quite a while... around 30 years. I was in the area because it was a childhood neighborhood and we were hungry.
Read moreThe place is small but it has a steady flow of customers - mainly locals. It serves a pay-by-weight buffet and you can also order off of their menu. The buffet choices are decent (your usual Taiwanese fare) but they are not hot... they're placed on plates on a large table setting and when it's closer to their 'break' time, what they have is what you get - no refills.
All in all, it's a good place for food. Nothing special, but considering the fact that it's still standing, I'd say it's doing well!
Pros: inexpensive, decent array of food

Great cheap buffet - Edit
This is my favourite buffet restaurant in this area, the food is a lot more tasty and flavoursome than any of the other cheap buffet places I have tried in Taipei. Standard pay by weight action, very friendly staff and customers - no English spoken though, but they assured me it was all vegan. My rating is 'good' but seeing as it is better than fair but not very good I gave it 4 cows.
