Deserves 5 stars!

Would give 5 stars if i was allowed but happy cow only awards fully vegan spots that privilege. This spot was such a fun experience! First off you walk up and it’s fully decked out on the outside like a Disney restaurant. Then you come inside and it’s covered wall to walk in beautiful art and decor. Having gone to Japan twice, it felt very authentic all of the decor. I got to bbq some mushrooms and had a vegan steak platter with dumplings. The Japanese style teriyaki sauce was right on point and their house spicy sauce was amazing. This is something everyone can come to and enjoy and they can chance the stove head if you’re worried about cross contamination. The wait staff was super accommodating and even made sure to bring a vegan complimentary dish before our food. I can’t wait to come back!

Tasty!

Pictured is the vegan chicken, and vegan char siu (bbq pork). I also got popping boba tea. My food was ready quickly and it was good!

Unique dining experience

I went to the newly opened Japanese BBQ restaurant, Wu Yang, in Lake Grove (in the Lidl shopping center) and was surprised they had 6 vegan mock meat choices (as well as other unintentional vegan items) on their extensive omnivore menu. I recommend it as a fun and unique experience where you get to cook your own food on a grill at your table, but be aware that people are cooking meat at other tables around you. I got the vegan chicken and purple rice. The ‘chicken’ had a tasty savory coating, and reminded me of the mock chicken they use at Red Tiger Dumpling House but without the batter coating and sauce. It has a great texture and the ‘meat’ itself was mild tasting. The rice tasted like plain brown rice. The BBQ dinner came with kimchi, veggie dumplings (which were just okay to me- they were amply stuffed but there was too much of a seaweedy or spinachy flavor for me), broccoli, and lettuce and was presented in the cutest dragon serving tray. They provided two dipping sauces (one that tasted like a teriyaki and one with a little heat) and additional spices (cumin heavy) that you can coat your ‘meat’ in. The servers came around and coated the grill in vegetable oil a couple of times, and replaced the grill when needed.

What I really liked about the restaurant were the little touches - the robot cat that came around to deliver people’s food, the ’goldware’, the doors that opened automatically upon entry, the serving trays and even the little to go containers.

Be sure to let your server know you are vegan, so they can bring the proper bbq accompaniments. It’s a restaurant unlike others on Long Island.

Pros: Fun atmosphere , Large menu selection

Cons: Not all vegan items clearly labeled
