Fantastic vegan roast! - Edit
We were looking for a Sunday roast in the area and found the White Lion to have one of the best options. Great portions, knowledgeable and friendly staff on vegan options.

Improved, better options elsewhere - Edit
Updated review August 2023 -
Read moreReally happy to see some new vegan additions to the menu, and clearly labelled gluten-free options!! The homemade falafel is incredible and clearly labelled, though sells out/not always available. Still need more main meals that are both vegan & gluten-free and gluten-free bread/burger buns, but a big step in the right direction. Service was much better - lovely, friendly, fast and attentive.
Original review - 2 stars - The White Lion does have quite a few vegan options and staff are knowledgeable of allergens though, unfortunately, the available options are really expensive for what you get (£14 for a veggie hotpot!). Had the veggie burger for £12 that was advertised to be editable to be vegan & GF, but was later told the GF bun wasn’t vegan. Was charged the full price, despite not being able to have a burger bun.
The veggie burger was dry, no vegan cheese or sauce and took ages to arrive. Overall, it was a super disappointing experience, especially as Hebden is known for being a very vegan/GF-friendly place. Definitely better (and cheaper!) places to eat in Hebden.

Home cooked tasty food - Edit
There were three vegan mains which sounded good, I had the hotpot with fries which was really tasty and would definitely recommend. My family had veggie and meat dishes which were equally as good. Friendly and efficient staff. Well worth a visit.

Poor service, limited options - Edit
Since the previous review the menu has been updated. There is only a salad (take off feta to be made vegan), a burger (take off the aioli to be vegan) or a hot pot as main meals. The burger was nice but definitely nothing special for £12. On top of this the service was very poor. We waited an hour for the food without warning that it would be a long wait. I wouldn't recommend. Much better places in hebden bridge for vegans.

Good food - Edit
Went here for dinner and food clearly labelled vegan. Staff had good knowledge of veganism and advised us that the chips had been fried in same oil as fish. She then checked with the chef who advised oil had just been changed so would be OK. We shared the sweet potato starter which tasted delicious and then I had the mushroom lasagna which was very tasty and mushrooms had a lovely flavour. Husband had good vege burger and chips. Nice atmosphere in pub.
