Jack fruit cherry popped!

I was just strolling around soho and got the craving for a burger and I have heard great things about vegan hippo so I thought I would give it a go. I don't really like meat substitute so I really enjoy that the jack fruit burger was marinated so well that it still had a crunch in some bites so that it wasn't trying to be anything but what it was. They piled on the avo which everyone loves and the flavour was amazing. Staff were really nice and so helpful. I loved the animal table numbers 😊 will definitely come back.

Disappointment

I really don't like to give bad reviews about vegan places but I must when it is needed.
I don't understand why there are so many good reviews about this place, I think most people don't know what is good food.
The food was cooked in cold oil, it was cold after two minutes on the table, the sweet potato fries were terrible and all soggy in oil, then I saw the "chef" was taking them from a supermarket frozen bag, the burger taste wise as not too bad but far from good and again cold. The bread didn't seem fresh despite I asked before ordering the burger.
I definitely do not recommend this place, I hope they do improvements on the food quality because this gives bad reputation to vegan food.
There was no ketchup on offer but in the end I saw the staff opening a cookie box on the counter to take some macdonalds ketchup type bags (they looked the same ones) to a take away order.

Suggestions: Use good quality oils and properly hot when cooking, fresh potatoes (hand cut, not cheap frozen) and use proper bread.

Cons: Food

Vegan fastfood

Quite disappointing. It's not a café it's more of a fast-food type place. I would not have gone if I knew that all they serve is burgers, hotdogs. Also 3£ for chips that come frozen from McCain is ridiculous (their freezer is in the dining area)...

Cons: 7£ for a burger without chips

good but slow

The food was absolutely amazing however the service was very very slow at the till but worth it. Also one table is in an awkward position, it's placed by the toilet and I had to keep tucking in my seat for other customers

Pros: yummy food, lovely people

Cons: slow service

Yummy food!!

My husband and I both had jackfruit burgers and they were so good!! We also ordered chips, which were delicious.
The staff are very friendly, but our coffee order was forgotten (in spite of reminding them twice!). It was very good when it arrived though.
We would definitely come here again when we're in the area.

Pros: All vegan, reasonably priced, yummy food

Cons: Drinks orders can be slow

Mediocre

I ordered the hot dog and fries but they had ran out of fries. I was paying by card so had to make it up to a certain amount so I got sweet potato fries. I asked for it to be a take away order and he put it through as sit in. When he appeared with my plate, I explained that it was actually to take away and that I'd asked that when I ordered. The man appeared annoyed that he had to transfer it into a box however I did ask in advance.

The food was okay. I didn't like the mayonnaise they had on it, it was thick and curdled. Ruined the taste of the hot dog. To be honest I've had much better vegan hotdogs elsewhere. The fries were really nice though.

Pros: Nice sweet potato fries

Cons: expensive, didn't taste very good , rough people kept coming in to use the bathroom

Cool and delicious

I enjoyed my jackfruit burger very much, and my partner liked his hotdog! The artwork on the walls made it a lovely setting, as did the model animals that are used as table identifiers. Fairly expensive for fast food; however, I appreciate that it's necessary for the upkeep of Vegan Hippo and I hope the business continues to flourish!

Delectable Vegan Burgers

Went to lunch with my non-vegan father and we both loved our burgers! He had the Spicy Courgette Burger and I had the Da Hipp Burger (bean and sweet potato patty, grilled pineapple, lettuce, BBQ sauce, vegan yoghurt sauce). Both burgers were packed full of flavour. Also tried their coconut chai latte and carrot, apple, and ginger juice which were delicious. The staff were friendly and service was prompt. Not a great range of options and a little pricey for one burger, but the food is undoubtedly tasty.

Delicious, but somewhat overpriced.

Really yummy food served by grumpy people who get the order wrong a couple times before giving you the food you asked for. There are (when I was there) disturbing and graphic images on the wall of animal torture. I'm being fussy, as ultimately the food was really really good, but everything else was subpar, except the shop if you like kooky and cosy, which it is!

Pros: Food., Location., Atmosphere.

Cons: Price., Service., Smell (fried food).

Went here for a quick lunch with a friend during a weekend visit in London. I had a burger and a lasagna, both were very good.

Chilled out, easy and no frills

An all vegan small casual restaurant/cafe in the heart of Soho.

Had the lasagne today which was a big hearty portion, along with some sweet potato fries - they were both great! Would not recommend the cheese for the fries as it doesn't melt onto the chips at all. What's the point?! No veg/salad/healthy options on the menu, however, you can ask for a side salad and they'll very helpfully prepare this for you however you like it. Bonus: it includes avocados!

Not a huge selection of food and of the burgers, I only really like the jackfruit one. As others have said, the bun they use is dry.

They have tap water with fruit on their counter for everyone which I thought was a nice touch and means you don't really need to buy a drink. Also, their croissants are really lovely and don't go stale quickly which I pleasantly found out. I wish they made a plain "butter" one though!

Overall, great location and decent prices. For those saying it's too pricey, please remember you're in Soho, central London and supporting a vegan restaurant - they still have very competitive prices for fast-ish food you can sit down and eat.

Pros: All vegan, You can book!

Cons: Small selection of food

Disappointing

Don't waste your time with this restaurant, it's overpriced. 7£ for a burger with hard bread, too much barbecue sauce and no salad on the side. I was really disappointed and found I'd paid way too much for a snack (it really wasn't a proper meal, I was still hungry after that burger).
The rating system disallows you to rate a vegan/vegetarian restaurant less than two stars, but I would give the Vegan Hippo 0,5 stars (because I must admit, to get an animal toy instead of a number when you order is cute!).

Pros: Animal toy instead of a number, Good situation in the city, Cosy decoration

Cons: Overpriced, Average food, Not much effort put in the food

Great food, nice staff

We ate here two times during our stay in London. The Hotdog and Jackfruit Burger were great! The staff is really friendly and we felt really welcome. Only the group of drug addicts that were smoking drugs directly in front of the window where we were eating disturbed us.

A cozy and quiet place in the middle of the noisy Piccadilly Circus - we had pumpkin soup, a delicious vegan hotdog and a spinach crepe with yummy crispy kale chips :)
Inexpensive, very friendly staff.

A little gem, most of the time!

I have been here many many times, the full cooked breakfasts is just amazing, the rolls, toasted sandwiches and desserts are also gorgeous. The staff are really sweet.
But there is a but... sometimes the menu isn't as good as other times and sometimes it smells --could be old soho plumbing? It is also a little small. Overall though, would definitely recommend a visit.

Pros: The taste of the food, Hot vegan options!, Lovely staff

Cons: Odd smell on occasions!

nice, friendly cafe

I have only been here twice and I had the hotdog. Food came out quickly and it was delicious. I love that they use animal figures as table numbers.

There isn't much seating but I had no problems when I was there. I will hopefully come back and try the rest of the menu soon.

Staff were friendly,

Pros: nice location, dog friendly

Cons: quite small

weird, overpriced and slightly disappointing

When I walked in a couple of customers were still waiting, their orders and been confused. After waiting a few minutes I was ready to order when the guy behind the till stepped back and started eating an avocado I think he was starting his break it was just odd that he didn't say hello or wait for someone to come take over.

I found the food quality pretty poor for the price. The hot dog was fine but the chips were pretty bad.

I don't want to rule this place out it was just an odd experience as the employees were running around a little confused and frankly a bit annoying while trying to enjoy my meal. Maybe I caught them in a bad day (it was really quiet in there).

Dissappointing

Coming in here the first thing you notice of a strong
odor of fried food. If you look at the things they sell you will notice that it is mainly fast food (mainly frozen food).
We had a raw avocado cake that was delicious but every piece was packed in a plastic box of which we do not know if they reuse it.
We find it a bit hypocritical that they do not accept the new five pound notes but support Alpro by using their soy products.
Please only visit this place with old clothes that you plan to wash soon as every part of you will stink like you work in a chippy though spending only a few minutes there.
Do not go there if you can not bare a lot of hipsters and an loud atmosphere.

Pros: good cake

Cons: stinky, loud, hypocritical

Brilliant

I love this place. It's not fancy but it's not trying to be. Prices are really reasonable and the jackfruit is incredible. The desserts are really good and they have a really strong vegan ethos. All meals are also available to takeaway

Pros: Great Food, Good atmosphere, Reasonably priced

Cons: Could use more space between tables
