Amazing Street Food Vibe in Central London

My best friend and I come here way too much and are always greeted by the friendly staff. We almost always find a place to sit, even though it's in a great location in SOHO, and then we almost always have way too much food because that's how delicious it is. If you are looking for a green-health-only-sprinkle-some-chia-on-my-quinoa-salad place, this is not it. This is about burgers and fries with 0% animal cruelty. So enjoy the finger-licking goodness.

Pros: SUCH GOOD FOOD., Really cool staff (not German apparently... UK), Great location

Cons: Not ideal for a raw-healthy-superfood meal??

don't know what the hippo is all about

We've been to Vegan Hippo for lunch after running the British 10K race on a summer Sunday. V lovely staff and quirky environment, but quite disappointed with the food. We ordered a kebab and a jackfruit burger. The jackfruit was nicely done, drowning in tasty barbecue sauce but served on a stale, dry white bun. The kebab pieces were just dry, chewy (I think) soy pieces, served on a stale flatbread that also had a funny smell to it. We were still hungry so we got a peach cheesecake which was alright. All in all, we spent over £30 for two fast-food items and one piece of cake, plus one tea, which I found quite expensive even for the location. I won't be coming back.

Long wait and very cramped

Very cute café, but I don't think that it's normal to have to pay £13 for a cooldrink, some chips and a few falafel type balls as a takewaway, and then have to wait for an hour in a cramped space.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, Tasty potato chips

Cons: Long wait, Too expensive for what it is

Overpriced

The restaurant itself was nice when you walk in. My problem started when I went to sit down and the table was covered in the pervious person's rubbish! The restaurant was not full and not busy, so there was definitely time to clean it up. The table itself was sticky (like when you haven't washed it properly in ages), covered in salt (??!!) and had the remains of someone else's meal on it(food basket, drink bottles, napkins, etc). I sat down thinking that when my food is served the waiter will also clean the mess. But to my disappointment that did not happen... Instead what did happen, was the waiter came out with my food (jackfruit burger), but he was TOUCHING IT!! With his BARE hands!! No gloves, no shame and no sense of hygiene. The food was quick to be served and tasted ok, but the burger was not worth £8! It didn't even come with chips. I am disappointed because I walked quite far just to come to the restaurant and I was greeted with dirty tables and dirty hands on my food.Clean up your act Vegan Hippo!

Amazing Vegan hub!

Lovely little Vegan restaurant in the heart of Soho.
Had a delicious Jackfruit burger with cheese with fries on the side.
Fries came with a sweet tomato sauce and they were kind enough to spoil my taste buds with an additional mustard.
Grabbed a few chocolate peanut butter dates on the way out as the owner was kind enough to let me try one. They lasted an hour before I caved in and ate them all!
Customer for life, the food felt like it was made with love.

Pros: 100% veganLovely staffGenuine passion for food

Cons: variety

Yummy Vegan Street Food

If you need a quick bite of tasty vegan street food, these guys and gals have you covered. The kabob was amazing and I also loved the vegan hotdog. They had a lovely cherry lager which I also enjoyed.

Pros: Price , Convenience , Taste

Cons: Menu is limited

Pricey

A small cafe tucked away in the corner. I had the vegan kebab and hot dog. The soy meat in the kebab was kind of dry and overcooked; the vegan cheese used for the hotdog didn't taste the best either. I spent 16 pounds there.

fantastic, friendly and fun

This is a great place to eat, right in the middle of Soho.

Service is very friendly and atmosphere is chilled out and relaxed. There are books and magazines to read whilst you're waiting (including some great kid's books about being vegan), and the food is very tasty.

My only small criticism is about their choice of beer; I could only see Corona. There are loads of local, interesting, vegan beers available: some of those, please!

Decent little place.

I called in here after stepping off a 26-hour, two stopover flight on a wet, cold May morning. Welcome to London!

I ordered the main breakfast option, which was a traditional English fry-up, and lived up to expectation (i.e. - good). In retrospect I should have been more adventurous and gone for one of the burgers (I blame the jetlag), which sound great. No regret, though - my food was great. The coffee was a little weak, and I suspect that it may have been a cultural difference (a latte in Australia is different from one in the UK).

Pros: Good location., Decent food.

Really great location

There were various burgers on the menu when I visited but I enjoyed a simple cheese and ham sandwich. It was good to find something light.
They have a range of plant milks for tea/coffee and I was pleasantly surprised to find a pastry to go with my coffee - nice enough but not particularly stand out.

Pros: Location - so central, Light options (filled rolls, sandwiches), Good coffee with a choice of plant milk

Delicious food, friendly service!

This little restaurant is a total gem in London city center. There aren't many vegan places in the area, so we were very glad to find Vegan Hippo. The menu isn't huge: they've got a burger, a hot dog, a wrap, fries, special crepes with filling and some desserts. In the fridge you can grab some drinks and snacks to eat on the go. We ordered their jackfruit burger and crepes with spinach filling and were so impressed. The flavours were amazing! The bonus to the delicious food was very friendly service :)
Would definately go back!

Fantastic, cozy little place. An oasis of calm in the bustle of Soho, it's an excellent place to chill & enjoy fantastic cruelty-free food. Highly recommended.

Nice little place

I managed to eat through a vegan hotdog along with some fries and a drink for less than £10. For central London that's not bad at all. The food was good and the dude behind the till was nice. It will be busy given its location and the fact I went on bank holiday but the wait wasn't ridiculously long.

Pros: Food, service , location

Cons: limited seating due to location

Limited options

I visited on Saturday around 6pm, the place was completely full so we decided to order to take away.
There were only 3 people working and they obviously couldn't keep up with orders, even though the menu is very limited.
After 10 minutes of waiting, a table freed up so we sat down - the room was very dull and the furniture very scruffy and basic.
The food was ok (hot dog & bean burger), although they got my order wrong, and even after sending it back they got it wrong again.

Pros: Good selection of snack foods, Fairly good value, Good portions

Cons: Slow service, Limited options

Cute and cool

I ordered the jackfruit burger - my first ever 'pulled pork' style jackfruit experience. It was pretty good! Maybe a little sweet for my liking though (probably because it is fruit). The food came out very quickly and the staff were friendly and chatty. Although I was there for lunch at 11:30am so it could be different at a busier time of day. It is a small venue with only a few places to sit so I would recommend going outside the usual lunch hour.
Be aware that they do not accept the new 5 pound note due to its having tallow. It is in a good central location but can be a little tricky to find down the narrow streets. But they have free wifi so that's good!

Pros: Nice vibe, Good flavour, Quick, friendly service

Cons: Limited seating, Jackfruit burger a bit sweet

Mixed feelings

The cafe was very cute, but we came around 1-2 in the afternoon and there was very limited seating. The food was very tasty and they have the best vegan mayo I've ever had. We ordered the jackfruit burger, kale chips, and the sweet potato burger. The buns were quite chewy, but still very tasty. The staff seemed too busy to talk, which is understandable, but I still wish they would have been a tad more friendly. Overall, we'd go back if we were in the neighborhood, but wouldn't travel for it.

Pros: Tasty food, cute atmosphere

Cons: limited seating, hard to find using google maps, less than friendly staff

Vegan Full English Breakfast

Had the Vegan Full English Breakfast. It was edible but kind of uninspiring; and for the £9 price I got only one lonely sausage. A nice touch was water with cut limes on tap. The Soho area of London is interesting, but I won't be going again.

Favorite place in London

During my 3 months stay in London I went here many times and it never disappointed. LOVED the jackfruit burger with kale chips, even my parents (non veg) loved the food. Staff is very friendly and the place feels very cozy.

Not fancy at all

Vegan burgers, hot dogs and some breakfast options. It is what you can get at Vegan Hippo. So do not have high expectations on having a fancy dinner. The food is OK, but nothing special. Also the decoration is not welcoming. And the worst thing - the organization. They give you a plastic figure of an animal, so they can localize you when the order is ready. However every time the waitress got lost. Such a mess...

Pros: affordable

Cons: oily smell in the ambient, desorganized

I honestly don't understand the bad reviews here. I love Vegan Hippo and have had nothing but great food there! Staff are always very friendly and helpful and it's a lovely and relaxed place, they also raise funds for animal charities ❤️
