No taste, what is vegan? - Edit
After reading the reviews this place was a big disappointment. The location itself is really nice, tatoo studio inside is something new. But there the positive aspects almost end: Menu is definetely not 100% vegan anymore, actually there are no sign for vegan or so. Asking the staff whether the oatmeals are vegan gets you an empty look and no answer. Asking whether it contains milk the answer first is "yes", after a second or so "no". So asking staff doesnt help at all.
Read moreThe food itself was ... boring in the best case. Toast had plain mashed avocado, a leaf of salad, some sweet fried mushrooms (caramalized? I actually do not want to know what thes were fried in, dedinetely not my taste) and an almost green tomato. The oatmeal was dry and almost tasteless. The coconuts were good, though. But the plastic straw shows the place's attitude.
Really a pity, the place has so much potential but definetely no recommendation. Second star is also du to pretty low price, for 2 toast, 1 oatmeal and 2 coconuts 130k.
Sorry guys, perhaps you hive the old concept another thought? ;-)

Affordable with tons of vegan options - Edit
I love that there is a vegan ink tattoo parlor located inside the restaurant. The restaurant itself had amazing food. SO many vegan options and is one of my favorite spots in Ubud. The service is good and staff is very friendly. Will be going back.

No longer 100% vegan - Edit
Visited in July 2022. Sadly the menu is no longer completely vegan as they serve meat now. But they do have some fermented foods such as oncom which I haven’t come across elsewhere in Bali which was interesting to try, fairly salty though. The peanut sauce that comes with the vegetables skewers didn’t have coconut milk so it was rather strong and not creamy enough for my taste. Food was just okay but there are plenty of other fantastic fully veggie/ vegan restaurants I would prefer to support.

The vegan menu is awesome and the food is SO good 🌟 The owner, Andre is super nice. He had a vegan partner for 16 years so he and all of the kitchen crew really understand veganism, and great food 🤤🌿 woohoo! Specialty dishes from West Java are included on the menu, including raw and fermented foods. Food for a happy soul and feels nice afterwards (not too oily or heavy). I’m so happy I found this place 🥳🌴🤸♀️

Welcoming gem - Edit
(I came here during the beginnings of the corona pandemic, so Ubud was less busy than usual)
Read moreI came here as a solo traveller.
I was immediately drawn by the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A pool of very talented musicians performed live and even had open mic sessions which the more daring guests clearly enjoyed.
The staff is very friendly and has good English. Noticing that I was travelling solo I soon got invited to sit with them. I felt super welcome and still come back regularly. You get treated like a friend here and it is easy to engage and connect.
The menu is all vegan, very tasty and has got a very fair price. They serve all the local classics, fresh juices, toasts, chia puddings and smoothie bowls.
There is a beautiful outside sitting area, great for groups. Inside are beanbags for those who truly want to relax and enjoy a smoothie. Upstairs you can find a sitting-on-the-floor situation, made comfortable by the many pillows.
There are sockets everywhere and a reliable wifi connection.
The tattoo studio is also vegan, clean and well equipped. Appointments can be made through social media and more specific tattoo styles (hand poke, stick n' poke, etc.), can be requested, for they have good connections among artists.
This place offers a dynamic range of workshops(the offers a varying frequently so keep your peepers open); cooking classes, meditation and sound healing and more.
This place will enrichen your experience in Bali for sure. Highly recommend.
Pros: live music, sockets and good wifi, great value food

Disappointed - Edit
We ordered 2 Lotek. Portion is rather small. Only got 2 tiny pieces of tofu and tempeh. The peanut sauce was tasteless. Really disappointed when you pay 40k for a dish. It's clearly a place for tourists.
Read moreThe place claims to be vegan but their coffee shop offers milk and honey. The staff was eating meat (lunch time) at the table next to ours. Seriously ?! It's so disrespectful.

Hello dear guest!
Read moreWe do appologize for your experience.
We would like to explain that We at Urban Jungle Cafe do NOT use or serve honey in our food.
The coffe place renting the area down stairs in the building is called Braya Coffe. They might use honey. But we are NOT the same Owner or same company.
Urban Jungle Vegan Café is Upstairs.
Two different companies.
With different names.
Different staff and different menue.
However our guests is free to sit where ever they want in the building.
As of the concern about the staff from Braya coffe eating meat outside of the coffe shop, is something we already had a meeting about with their owner, after we hear about it and it will not happen again.
Thank you for listening
And for all of you reading our reviews! We are Still 100% VEGAN at Urban Jungle.
And we hope after this we are allowed back to a Vegan status as this is False information about Us using Honey.

FRUSTRATING - Edit
The first time I went here the chia pudding was delicious, although it took 45 minutes to come. The second time, it took 1 hour. But, it got worse - the third time when we arrived at opening, they didn’t have any ingredients and told us to come back in two hours. TODAY WAS THE FINAL TIME. We went, sat down, ordered and waited 20 minutes. Then the owner told us his chef wouldn’t arrive for another FOUR HOUR so we had to leave. What a joke and waste of time our time. There are many places in Ubud that respect their customers - sadly this place doesn’t.

Cold smoothie bowl - Edit
Wanted to grab a refreshing smoothie bowl for brunch, when I came I was told some of the options weren’t available which was alright. They sadly didn’t have any coconut which I was looking forward too. The smoothie bowl was pretty small and not cold (isn’t that what a smoothie bowl is supposed to be?!) and had a weird taste, not what I was expecting. I was disappointed because due to the good reviews I thought I’d give it a try...

Meh! Bad service & extra long wait time. - Edit
I was starving and decided to go to Urban Jungle.
Read moreSuch a disappointment.
I sat down, in an empty restaurant.
I order the burger and a salad (salad I ordered for take away with the sauce on the side). 10minutes later the waiter comes back and tells me I can’t have the burger because they’re sold out. This, was not a problem. I decide to go with a smoothie bowl and a strawberry/cashew cream cheese toast. BUT, I’m asked to choose something else because strawberries are too expensive. YET a few or their menu items contain strawberries. WHY put strawberries in your menu items if we can’t order them??? I now order a different toast. At this point, I’m already annoyed and thinking of leaving. It took 45mins to get my food. I was alone in the restaurant and ordered food that is easily prepared. The smoothie bowl was warm; therefore, not refreshing. The toast came 10minutes later and the bread was dry and hard. As if the toast had been sitting for a while before being served. Plus, the salad I ordered for take away with the dressing on the sode came in a plate ready to eat. Now I get to eat a soggy salad for dinner. To top it off, I get my bill and the total is 5000idr more than what it should have been. The portions are also too small for the prices. I do not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

Can't recommend strongly enough - Edit
This place was among my two favorite restaurants in Bali! Including take out orders, my wife and I probably got 10-15 dishes from here during a one week stay in Ubud. They have interesting choices that is authentic to a village in Java, which I learned after talking with the owner.
Read moreThe owner is really friendly too. We ended up chatting with him and some of his workers at the restaurant.

Dirty - Edit
Both of our glasses was not clean, the spoon they provided for the mayo wasnt clean either. We had the fried tempeh and two toasts. The fried tempeh was amazing. The toast wasn't impressive. Veggies looked sluggish, the toast didn't taste like much. The avocado was too ripe and stringy.

Lovely - Edit
Lovely space above the tattoo shop. Not far from Kafe and Earth cafe on Hanoman. In a side street. Spacious and cozy floor seating. There’s a large variation of smoothie bowls, chia puddings and toasts in addition to the more traditional Indonesian dishes such as gado gado and nasi goreng. All vegan and beautiful! They even have mocktails and different coffees and ice coffees/drinks. I highly recommend! There’s definitely something for everyone on the menu and the staff is lovely.
