No vegan options - Edit
Do not advertise on happy cow. There are no dedicated vegan items. All cross contamination.

Limited vegan options.. - Edit
Having looked at previous reviews I was expecting more vegan options. Unfortunately I could only find one dish on the menu that was listed as vegan.
Read moreI ordered the roasted veg on ciabatta with hummus and fries. Very unusual presentation as it just looked like a bit of a mush with the roasted veg mixed in with the hummus in a big barm. With the fries it was just a massive carb fest. Tasted ok and it was very filling but just lacked refinement unfortunately.
The interior was nice and the staff were attentive.

One of the best pizzas I have ever had! - Edit
We had olives & sourdough with caramelised red onion houmous to start which was lovely (the olives were especially nice!) Then we had a pizza which they swapped out the dairy cheese for vegan cheese. It was honestly one of the best pizzas we have ever eaten!
Read moreThe options are very limited for vegans but what they do have it delicious and since it is a small busy restaurant it’s not surprising they have a limited vegan menu.

Would recommend - Edit
We had a lovely experience here. They originally told us they were out of the vegan flatbread but then said they'd make it work and brought us a really nice off-menu meal (I guess with whatever ingredients they had left). Coffee and chips were good also!

Yummy breakfast - Edit
Contrary to the bad reviews here, I had a really good experience with this restaurant. I had the vegan breakfast which was very fresh and tasty - I asked for more mushrooms in replacement of halloumi. I also had the tender-stem broccoli which was great. After this, I was still hungry so decided to order the courgette and corn fritters with damson chutney which I devoured super quickly!
Read moreThe service was great so I have no complaints. The food took long to serve but I understand this wasn’t fast food - it could’ve been quicker.

Awful food - Edit
Ordered the vegan breakfast and added avocado as it was pretty limited. The portion size was tiny - half a slice of toast to reference! Veg included tomatoes which tasted like plastic and spinach which tasted off. Hash browns were OK but pretty cold as were the beans. The coffee must have been watered down as it tasted like dishwater. Do not go here!

Disappointing - Edit
Vegan breakfast was the worst Vegan Breakfast I’ve ever had. The potato scone was shredded deep fried potato with an overwhelming taste of vegetable oil, the hash brown measured 2cm x 2cm and had no crunch on the outside and no fluffy potato on the inside, the portion of baked beans were warm and I counted 10 beans, the tomatoes were hard and the avocado unseasoned. The mushrooms were ok as was the spinach but the portion size was very poor and the overall quality of the breakfast was very disappointing. I would not recommend this place to anyone seeking a vegetarian or vegan meal with far better options close by.

A Couple Of Vegan Options But Check What Milk They Give You!! - Edit
Urban Food House has a couple of vegan options including cheese, so I visited for lunch on an extremely wet Lake District day and seemed everyone thought the same, as it got very busy. I read the fantastic Tripadvisor reviews, so had high expectations and to be honest I was disappointed.
Read moreI ordered Earl Grey tea with oat milk and when it arrived my gut instinct told me it was not oat (was very white, whereas all oat milk I have used is not). The waitress came to take our order, so I queried it and she took the jug away without saying a word, just a huff (so I presume she made a mistake). There was no apology and its a good job I didn't drink it as I am allergic (not life threatening though). She returned with a replacement, which I left as it had a weird thick and gloopy texture, more like oat cream.
I ordered the vegan version of the vegetable flatbread, basically without feta, although I should have asked for vegan cheese, but I was still annoyed about the cock up with the milk and it slipped my mind to ask. Hubby ordered a vegan burger without vegan cheese, as he is watching his saturated fat intake after a heart bypass.
The flatbread looked amazing with beautiful vivid colours, yet fell a bit flat on flavour, although a good grind of salt and pepper was a big improvement. If I made this dish I would add a big dollop of smoked houmous on top, with a good drizzle of sriracha sauce and it would elevate the dish to magnificent. The burger was very good, it was in fact two burgers on a ciabatta roll with lovely crisp chips and he wolfed it down, would have been better with the cheese, but his health comes first.
I was a little underwhelmed with the whole experience and the waitress had a cold unfriendly attitude for a front of house position. We are returning to Bowness on Windermere later on in the year, but do not think I will be revisiting Urban Food House.
Pros: A couple of vegan options

Not brilliant for vegans - Edit
Whilst they have what sounds like a good deal for an early evening set menu (two courses for £15), on closer inspection, it's not that great for vegans. There are two vegan main meals and only one of these is part of the deal; and there's only one vegan starter. I had the Imam Baldi, basically stuffed aubergine. It didn't taste of much, was oily and undercooked, and was rather small. I had a nice vegan ice-cream for pudding (not homemade) but I'm afraid that wasn't enough to redeem the place as a vegan culinary destination. My omnivore friends thought it was great though!

2 vegane burger - Edit

Cons: Trockener burger.
