Plantain and dumplings yeah!! - Edit
Tasty food, can be very spicy so be aware of this.
Read moreInteresting combinations and seemingly not obsessed with making burgers in a bun, which was a nice change.
Pros: Good mocktail options , Oh my goodness plantain!! , The dumplings are like doughnuts. Beautiful.

"Caribbean!" - Edit
I do think Turtle Bay is one of the better chains. I used to her the same starter and main every time I ate there, but since opting for a plant based diet, I've had to branch out. On my latest visit, I had sweetcorn fritters and jerk tofu. Both were delicious and it's probably the best tofu I've had as it was crispy on the outside, rather than being spongey (which I've experienced elsewhere. There are several vegan options across the starters, mains, sides, brunches and desserts. The menu is clearly labelled, and the cocktails are too. I'd recommend downloading the app as they often load vouchers onto your account - I was able to use two vouchers on my last visit, which knocked £20 off my bill. The discount coupled with the happy hour cocktails made it really good value.

Good Vibes - Edit
There was still a little room left in our bellies from our Gussto tapas earlier in the night, so we decided to visit here for the chocolate chilli brownie and some Jamaican pale ale. The brownie was tasty, with a nice chilli kick but the texture was more cake like, than brownie. Lovely coconut ice cream though. Staff and atmosphere were excellent and I have had the jerk tofu, sweetcorn fritters and trini doubles at another branch, which were superb. Those I would recommend for sure, but not so much the brownie.

Surprising - Edit
Visited for the first time with family. A good amount of choices but not extensive. They didn't have any tofu at the time so had their fake chicken burger. Surprised at how tasty it was.

Lots of vegan options - Edit
There are lots of vegan options at turtle bay, from vegan burgers, to Buddha bowls. I opted for the Buddha bowl with tofu, which was really good

Spicy food heaven - Edit
I've been twice now and both times had the jerk tofu. First time it came like a curry, big chunks of tofu swimming in lots of sauce. The 2nd ti e it looked quite unappealing with small dried out looking tofu and not even enough sauce to cover. However, 2nd time around it came with a side of grilled pineapple which really added to the dish and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Lots of choice in mains, sides and starters. All the drinks are clearly labelled if vegan too.

A fun place - Edit
I had a good time here as part of a large group which included several vegans. The menu is good with loads of vegan choices. The carribean theme is something a little bit different from most chains. Best bit for me was the amazing choice of flavoured rums. All the vegan drinks were marked too which is also good.

Ok - Edit
Ate here as a big group of carnivores as well as veggies and vegans. We were sat upstairs. They mostly managed our order ok. The buddha bowl was probably the best thing on the menu. Glad I ordered it! Cocktails well marked on the menu too. Slightly pricey but overall ok. If I was eating in Durham again I would look for a fully vegan place but I don’t think there is one, surprising for a university town.

Great place for brunch and cocktails! - Edit
There are vegan options on every section of the menu past your standard vegan burger option. I had the vegan Roti stack it was incredible.
Read moreLarge selection of cocktails clearly marked with VE if vegan which most were.
It is a pricey place however if doing bottomless brunch it is well worth the money.
Really good staff too, aware of the difference between veggie and vegan ( i find this isnt always the case)
Pros: Loads of vegan options , Cocktails clearly marked if Vegan ( most are!) , Staff knowledgeable on vegan/ veggie options
Cons: Expensive if not on bottomless brunch

Excellent service - Edit
Our waitress Jess was so helpful she recommended what vegan options she had sampled and advice on cocktails and rum options. Without her friendly manner and great food and drink options our evening would have taken us elsewhere. Thanks Jess for a totally enjoyable experience!
