Bonjour Amis - Edit
Vegan food is labeled on the menu, but I'm lacto-ovo so I didn't get into it.

Items inaccurately labeled - Edit
I would not return to this restaurant. Several menu items are clearly labeled as “vegan” and “dairy-free,” like the falafel, but they are NOT. Out of curiosity, I asked what base they use for their yogurt sauce and was told that it was in fact dairy. The server was clearly annoyed with me for asserting that items marked as dairy-free should not have dairy, she said they *could be made* dairy-free. This makes no sense. We got the stuffed eggplant entree, which says that it can be made vegan by substituting rice for potatoes. Again, did not specify that the yogurt sauce would also need to be removed. Also don’t understand why rice can’t be made vegan. It was a pile of soggy roasted vegetables. The other entree was basically a potato stew with a side of potatoes (which we had to get instead of rice). The portions were small, especially for $19.99 an entree. The ambiance was nice.

We ate lunch at Tuckerbox while returning from Stowe. It is a gem: Turkish cuisine with many vegan options.

So flavorful! - Edit
I would consider this one of my top 5 omnivore restaurants. I was blown away by the dolmas and baba ghanoush. There’s just a handful of vegan options but I tried most of them and loved it

Disappointing - Edit
I have to agree with other reviewers that this place is disappointing, in spite of great promise. Dishes expected to be vegan (falafel, lentil soup, for example) are not. There are only two entrees that can be MODIFIED to be vegan if you substitute the rice with home fried potatoes. The server had no clue what "vegan" means and could not tell me what meat product is in the rice. (The stock, I presume, but could not verify.) I ordered the Vegetable Guvec, which was quite bland, and a relatively small portion. For $18.99 is was very overpriced. Worse, we had to flag down a server to place our order and to get the bill. I want to like this place, but it's just not trying hard enough to get vegan diners to come in or to come back.

Ok in a pinch - Edit
This was an “ok” dining experience. They had a few options but salad and hummus are not very unique vegan options. Dolmas were yummy, but soaked in oil (not WFPB friendly). I was extremely disappointed that their lentil soup was not vegan- that is a staple vegan basic! Nor were the falafels, another staple easily made vegan. It is a cute cafe, and they did have almond and soy milk options for their lattes, but here are better places around for vegan cuisine.

Cons: Expensive , Lentil soup is not vegan , Falafel is not vegan

Not actually vegan - Edit
It was brought to my attention while dining here last night, that menu items marked as vegan have butter in them. They have two salads and a couple of apps on their dinner menu that are actually vegan.

Good food, but lacks vegan options - Edit
I visited Tuckerbox after a recent trip to Turkey, so the nostalgia was real and the expectations were high. While the food was not bad, it did not fully meet my expectations.
Read moreAs a vegan, Tuckerbox has very limited options for me, which was surprising given how easily I found vegan food in Turkey. I ordered their mixed meze platter and tried to order the falafel sandwich--only to be informed the falafel had eggs in it. I proceeded to order the grilled veggie and hummus sandwich--basically the only vegan option on the menu other than salads.
Their mezes were not bad, but their hummus and babaganoush lacked flavor and texture in my opinion. Their flatbread was the real deal--made in house and served piping hot from the oven. The stuffed grape leaves were actually sublime. They spice their rice with cinnamon and put dried cherries in the mix--absolutely delicious.
The veggie sandwich was quite underwhelming to be honest. It was tasty, but nothing I could not have whipped up myself in a few minutes. The sandwich was two slices of Ezekiel bread--that's right, no homemade pita for this one--with hummus and grilled zucchini between them. Somehow it was tasty and flavorful, but not really what I had in mind when I was craving Turkish food.
For dessert I ordered some tahini and pekmez, and it was surprisingly good, though the way they served it was not ideal. We just got a little sauce bowl with the tahini and pekmez, but no additional bread or anything to spread it on. Not sure what the thought process was behind this, but we basically tried the tahini and pekmez with the little bit of pita we had left and then just let the rest sit there.
Overall, I would probably not return to Tuckerbox other than for their stuffed grape leaves. Service was great and the place is lovely, but their menu lacks vegan options, and their veggie sandwich is ok, but there's nothing remotely memorable or Turkish about it.
Pros: Nice ambiance, Good service, Stuffed grape leaves
Cons: lack of vegan options, falafel has eggs

Nice food, on the expensive side - Edit
Really enjoyed my vegan casserole and Turkish coffee but definitely thought the food was a bit on the expensive side for the portion sizes(the casserole was 17 dollars for a relatively shallow dish. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere though and the town it’s located in is very cute!

good place to stop for a flavorful bite - Edit
I stopped in here for lunch while on the road. I was hoping to get the hummus and vegetable sandwich but they were out of vegan bread. Instead, I got the vegan menemem, a roasted vegetable breakfast dish that comes with home fries and toast. Since they were out of vegan bread I subbed toast for a small side of babaganoush which I put on the menemen. The roasted veggies come in a sauce that is a bit oily, but it’s flavorful. The babaganoush is very good and added flavor to the menemen. Home fries were just alright. The atmosphere is warm and the seating area is well decorated. The staff is knowledgeable about vegan options and the menu clearly labels vegan and gluten free options.

The vegetable guvec and stuffed grape leaves are fantastic. The restaurants seating area has double in the last year, but the Tuckerbox has still kept its original feel and style.

Decent but lacking in key area - Edit
Cute restaurant, high potential. Sadly, the lavash bread (only offering at dinner) is not vegan, which makes it hard to enjoy the many vegan dips. I think this is a huge oversight and so easy/cheap to offer a vegan bread option too. I was really disappointed with that. We got some dips for takeout, stopped by a supermarket and got some suitable bread. Dips were tasty but nothing special.
