A vegetarian pub and restaurant with vegan dishes. Owners are previously of The Veggie Red Lion in Gt Bricett and have taken over this old pub and renamed it The Walnut Tree. Has plenty of clearly labelled vegan starters, main courses and desserts. Also provides frozen meals to take away, all of which are vegan and gluten-free. Also has a shop next door, which sells various vegan treats and unique gifts. Open Wed-Sat 11:00-15:30, 17:30-23:00, Sun 12:00-16:30. Closed Mon-Tue.

Warm welcome and plenty of choice - Edit
A lovely restaurant and pub with a very varied menu and many specials. There'll definitely be something to suit all tastes and most dishes are vegan.

Fast service, completely meat free menu. Good vegan options, friendly. - Edit
Always extra points for being completely meat free, makes for a better atmosphere. Good staple pub food. Multiple vegan options and take away looks fantastic. I have an intolerance to lentils and chickpeas so some of the dishes were outside what I can eat, so it would have been good to see more raw green salad options. Service was fast and friendly.
Read morePros: Good vegan options, tofu ramen excellent., Speedy service, Chips! Wonderful.
Cons: Jackfruit burger (don’t like Jackfruit sorry!), Needs more salad/raw options, Not great for FODMAP intolerances.

Fantastic. - Edit
Plenty of vegan options on a wholly vegetarian menu. Everything we had was incredibly tasty, beautifully presented and very enjoyable. Loads of yummy sounding vegan dessert options and the two we shared were amazing. A clean and comfortable pub with friendly staff and great food.

Have been here a few more times since my review and the food has always been fantastic and really healthy- if you’re in the vicinity, it’s well worth a visit.

Great menu! - Edit
I've been a few times, mostly as large tables. Food is always lovely but the service is sometimes slow with regular drink and food checks not being done. Great menu also which changes a lot which is good!

Wonderful - Edit
Excellent food, almost too big portions but so nicely cooked that you have finish your plate.
Read moreThe rooms are nicely decorated - maybe a little bit too dark (at least the room we were in), there was no light near our table and no candles on it either.
Still a very good place to eat (also vegetarian options for non vegans available 😉)
Pros: Many vegan and glutenfree dishes
Cons: The service is a little bit slow

Disappointed - Edit
The first time I visited the Walnut Tree was really pleasant and the food was acceptable. Large portions. The second time I visit was utterly miserable. The service was dire, particularly from the chef and the food was well below acceptable. They are not child friendly. Very disappointed. Long waits between courses.

Delicious food, loads of vegan options all labelled on the menu. Good service and the staff are lovely. Nice atmosphere, can sit in front of the fire and have a drink or dine in pub/restaurant style.

Good choice of delicious vegan food - Edit
A friend and I ate here just a couple of weeks after The Walnut Tree opened in Thwaite. The owners have taken over a large former pub and transformed it into a spacious restaurant and bar. After a very friendly welcome we both chose the Sweet Potato, Peanut and Apple Burger, which was delicious. To follow we had the equally delicious Lime and Coconut Sundae. The food was imaginative, tasty and well presented.
Read moreSome dishes are vegan and others have vegan options. It is worth double checking which are vegan as the menu was sometimes unclear. The Walnut Tree already seems popular, so I would advise reserving a table. The food and philosophy behind the restaurant is really good and I would encourage the owners to make the small changes necessary to have a completely vegan menu.
