A vegetarian pub and restaurant with vegan dishes. Owners are previously of The Veggie Red Lion in Gt Bricett and have taken over this old pub and renamed it The Walnut Tree. Has plenty of clearly labelled vegan starters, main courses and desserts. Also provides frozen meals to take away, all of which are vegan and gluten-free. Also has a shop next door, which sells various vegan treats and unique gifts. Open Wed-Sat 11:00-15:30, 17:30-23:00, Sun 12:00-16:30. Closed Mon-Tue.

Delicious meal with lots of options! - Edit
I'd heard a lot about this place and so was very pleased to finally eat there and wasnt disappointed! There were lots of options and a wide variety of choices which was great for our range of friends. One of my friend's dishes could have had slightly more cooking on the pastry but that was it so very pleased and would visit again!

Walnut tree vegan options - Edit
Upon arrival at our booking time, we were shown to our reserved seats. Our drinks arrived shortly after ordering our sharing platter. The main course followed soon afterwards. We did not have to wait long for our mains. Highly recommend this venue.

Classy establishment - Edit
Clearly a long established business that knows exactly what it is doing. Menu was 80 % vegan and I wanted to eat all of it. Fortunately they do frozen ready meals so you can take away their fabulous cooking, and I took away all of them.

Lovely food lots of options - Edit
Such a friendly pub the staff were so helpful and really seem to enjoy working there. There were so many vegan options on the menu I was worried the quality might be compromised but it was delicious. The crispy tofu, jackfruit bao buns and mushroom wellington were particularly delicious. Great balance of fresh vegetables. Portion sizes were huge - arrive hungry!!

Found this whilst on holiday in the area. So unusual to find a pub rather than a restaurant. food and service were amazing. There is also a little shop selling gifts and food next door.

Vegan heaven - Edit
An accidental find on the back from Norfolk to Essex but now I make a point of going whenever I can. Gorgeous food in a beautiful building with a very pretty garden. I had the Buddha bowl and it was amazing, so fresh with homemade tortilla chips and wonderful humous. My friend had soup with the best french bread she's tasted outside of France. The shop is fantastic too, vegan cheese and sun-dried tomato scones are the best I've tasted, delicious home-made ready meals including vegan pizzas ard an amazing butternut squash salad. Also quirky cards and gifts and lots of lovely vegan treats. Just such a lovely place to break the journey from Norfolk to Essex and have a wonderful meal with friendly and helpful staff.

The only veggie/vegan pub for miles! - Edit
Had a very welcoming experience with The Walnut Tree a few days back. Three of us tried a diverse array of menu options and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Staff were lovely, as was the atmosphere of the place.

A must visit for any local vegans/veggies! - Edit
This cosy pub went above and beyond to provide a lovely dining experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Loads of veggie/vegan options as standard, then the ability to adapt most of the veggie options to be be vegan. Traditional pub style food with soups, fishcakes, a wellington and burgers on the menu. Expanded with Asian cuisine options like Chinese pancakes, curries and Bao buns; and everything in between. When we got the bill at the end we were surprised at how cheap it came out also! Wish we could give them six stars.

Brilliant - enjoyed also by non-veg family - Edit
Went here for my partners birthday. We are both vegan but his parents aren’t. So many options and most can be modified to make it vegan. Parents had a vegan curry and vegan wellington and they both really enjoyed. Definitely something which can be enjoyed by all!

Lovely evening. - Edit
We are in Suffolk for the weekend and my wife had booked a table for the Friday evening. We were greeted by friendly staff and sat at a lovely table ,the menu was full of choice and virtually everything could be made vegan on request. I had the lasagne and my wife had the mushroom Wellington, both were absolutely gorgeous, we then followed it up with the toffee apple crumble and the brownie, which finished us off. A really enjoyable night made even better by the smiling attentive staff.

Hit and miss - Edit
It’s lovely to have so many vegan options when dining out but the experience is often slightly lacking. Service on our most recent visit was really friendly but slow. We had to change our drinks as we were given the wrong ones. a member of our party found a hair in their food and another person had to ask for new cutlery as theirs was unclean. The food was nice but I’d say it was average.

As a coeliac vegan it’s not often that I’m spoilt for choice - Specials board and set menu had several dishes in all courses that I could eat. The food is delicious and the service was friendly and helpful. We will be going back, it’s worth the drive.

Delicious food and fantastic service - Edit
There are two main reasons to visit The Walnut Tree - their extensive menu and fantastic service. We visited on a busy Wednesday evening and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. The standard menu offers something for everyone in terms of cuisine and they then have a specials board! So be warned - when you're used to only 1 or 2 vegan options, the choice is overwhelming! Arrive hungry, the portions are generous.
