Unique blend of Mexican and Japanese food - Edit
I love both cuisines, so I had to try this place. While they serve both cuisines, there isn’t a lot of fusion, and the menus are separate.
Read moreFor a Mexican dish, I chose the Enchiladas Verdes. It tasted fresh and healthy, but the verde sauce was a bit too spicy for my liking. There were also bits of sunflower shells (yes, just the shells) in the dish. I don’t know what they were doing there, but they were unpleasant to eat.
I ordered two Japanese rolls to go: the Village Roll and the raw Ceviche Roll. The village roll was my favourite: super flavourful with just the right amount of spice. The Ceviche roll was mild and light, a perfect contrast to the previous roll.
Overall, the food is delicious and healthful. I preferred the Japanese rolls more, but then again, I haven’t had much of the Mexican menu to really judge.
Pros: All vegan, Free chips and salsa, Choice of different cuisines
Cons: Expensive

A Great Combo and Selection of Mexican and Japanese Dishes - Edit
The venue is probably an old diner but there is lots of glass and a peaked ceiling in the front. The furnishing are sparse but well appointed. The food is the important thing - it is fresh, flavorful and the fact that both Mexican and Japanese food are served one would think one would suffer at the expense of the other, but The Village could serve either and be successful. The portions are ample and the service was prompt and attentive. The owner came by our table several times to make sure we were satisfied with everything. This is not gourmet Vegan food but is authentic and delicious.

My fussy non veg family loved everything! Friendly and competent service. I seriously want to try the entire menu. Wet tostadas were a big hit. I loved the chimichanga. All 3 rolls we tried were great.

Beautiful whole foods! - Edit
I love that The Village has a huge outdoor patio, it’s super cute and has a cozy vibe with all the little plant walls. Service was great, everyone was so welcoming, sweet and super kind.
Read moreWe ordered: the Chimichanga, the Village roll, Ceviche life roll.
My husband had the chimichanga and said it was yummy. Loved that it was filled with huge sauced chunks of jackfruit.
The ceviche life roll is 100% raw. And it’s super refreshing. The tiny slice of lime was a surprise and I really loved that, gave it a big burst of flavor.

Home away from Home - Edit
Vegan Sushi and Vegan Mexican food all in one place?!? It’s a dream come true and the food is always so fresh and delicious. The Village has become my home away from home in 2020. I always feel like I’m going to see my family to nourish my soul and my body with the best organic made from scratch food. Love the potato tacos! Love the Sunset Roll and Bell Roll! Everything is delicious!

You won’t be disappointed. - Edit
Tempura Crab Roll has an outer crunch, and mock crab meat inside that is better than actual crab. Loko Roll is a hit too. I tried the Fire Me Up Burrito, which had a nice spicy kick to it. The Chimichanga will win anyone over. Be sure to start with the delicious house quac. Not sure if it's on the menu or if I was just a special the day I went, but they have a hard kombucha that all humans deserve to experience before leaving earth.

It makes me hopeful about veganism.
The waiters were also very sweet - maybe even too much for some people, but I enjoyed the whole experience very much. It ended up a fantastic date.
Pros: Lots of items., Spacious. , Great food quality for the price.
Cons: Some tables are too low for eating.

Winner!! - Edit
The long renovation has produced a clean, bright, open, modern look. The service was excellent and the prices were more than reasonable, especially since every item that could be was organic as well as attractively plated. My veggie burrito was delicious and more than filling (I could have taken half home for later but didn't), and the cheesecake dessert was refreshingly sublime.

I'm so glad this is the spot that took over Anthem. It's definitely an upgrade, even better I live across the street!
Read moreI unfortunately forgot my phone but the presentation of the food is amazing.
I had the chimichanga and at 15 bucks might seem expensive but sooo worth it. Best chimichanga I've ever had in many ways. It was unassumingly filling and the flavors were so well balanced. The fact that this wasn't overly fried, oily, and chewy was a huge win and I think goes against what you expect from a chimichanga. It was light and crispy and just exceeded my expectations.
My wife had the sushi and I forgot the names but one roll had what was akin to orange chicken on top and was superb. Again this probably goes against sushi protocol to put orange chicken flavor in a sushi roll but who cares. All I can say for sure is the sushi experience was better than any other in San Diego, including the new Yasai, which is overhyped IMO.
Go and support this new spot!
Pros: Expansive Mexican and sushi/ramen menu
