Incredible!

Absolutely fantastic menu and absolutely delicious to boot. Had vegan “fish” and proper chippy chips, and a battered sausage, utterly lovely. The chap who runs the place is a delight and really lovely to talk to as well. 100% recommend anyone in the area visit this place- if I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would :)

Hit and miss

Like a lot of people, I love nothing more than to go to the chippy and have a kebab. As a vegan that takes a bit more planning but there are options out there like the Veggie Chippy. It’s a promising start when you enter - big bright menu with lots and lots of vegan options including classics like vish and chips and the aforementioned kebab. My partner and I placed an order for 3-4 dishes so we could sample a good variety of what was on offer then took a seat outside as it was a warm evening. That’s where it took a bit of a turn.

After placing our order and paying we were told 2 things we had ordered weren’t fully available and we were asked if we would be happy to substitute things. We said yes but it was disappointing for this to not be mentioned at the point of ordering. We carried on sipping our drinks and a good 25 mins later our food still hadn’t arrived, all whilst being the only sit-in customers and just a couple of delivery orders going out. When I bought a second round of drinks I was told our food would be out shortly then after another 6-7 minutes it was here to try.

It was a mixed experience with the food. Nothing was bad... but nothing (apart from the kebab which was some weird diner style ham meat - delicious!) really stood out either. I left with the feeling of a place with great potential but needing to make some changes to really live up to that and offer a great experience.

Pros: Huge range of vegan dishes, Reasonable prices , Convenient to drive to

Cons: Availability of some dishes is an issue, Slow service even when not busy

Great idea and super friendly staff

Very friendly staff and a huge range of vegan choices. I had 'vod' and chips and my husband had a mixed kebab. Both were really tasty. It was a bit of a journey for us, but worth it.

Pros: Lots of choice, Great staff, Good value

Cons: Would be good to have more eco friendly packaging.

Brilliant!

This place is excellent. Everything tastes like it does from a traditional chippy but is vegan. This will be a regular fixture of my visits to Brum to see family.

Pros: Great choice.

Absolutely fantastic

Was a bit freaked out by the fake fish at first, as being a vegetarian when I get that taste in my mouth I'm usually concerned I've been fed fish! As soon as I got over that, loved it. Great chips and curry sauce too, and the deep fried potato scallops were epic. Far too cheap for the quality of food on offer. Just get there!

Pros: High quality food, Ludicrously cheap, Massive variety of items

Cons: A bit out of town, but walkable in 25m

Delicious. Will return!!

First visit today and I must say it exceeded my expectations. I have the donner/ Vchick kebab meat and chips and the tandoori Vchick legs and they were both delicious. The kebab meat tasted how I remember it fasting before going vegan. Chips were lovely and crispy. Salad was lovely and fresh. Big thumbs up for me on everything. The owner was also lovely and we had a chat whilst I waited for my food about the growth of Veganism.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Really tasty kebab, Friendly staff

Cons: Found it hard to park

Uncooked!

We went for a return visit at the weekend and were totally disappointed.

Firstly it took almost half an hour for our food to be cooked (one other customer in front of us). The tables were filthy, covered in smears of food and discarded takeaway cartons. It took 20 minutes for the guy to clean our table; with a dirty tea towel.

My chips were great but my vod was frozen solid in the middle. The guy was very apologetic and cooked another for me but that was another 10 minute wait.

I’m glad that my kids weren’t with me this time, I would have hated for them to be as ill as I was after this visit.

Not returning again.

Having visited The Veggie Chippy this evening it was truly amazing, the food was delicious, there was a wide selection of veggie and vegan foods to choose from, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would defiantly recommend this Chippy to everyone.

Very friendly, mostly vegan, tasty fast food

The Veggie Chippy is one of a kind, offering vegan (and a few lacto-veg) takes on the fish-and-chips standards plus a few south Asian bits. The menu is surprisingly diverse. Flavors were good. The proprietor is enthusiastic and helpful. Just don't expect health food here! It's all comfort food, and they do a good job of it. I only wish they could reduce the packaging waste (styrofoam, plastic, etc.)

tasty takeaway food

Called into this chippy while at a gig in Birmingham, the guy working there was super friendly and told us all about the menu and gave us free tasters of a few things. Does a whole range of stuff and is mostly vegan bar a couple of dishes. Had the vod and chips which was well tasty.

Pros: a veggie chippy, friendly staff, relatively cheap

fun staff great food

Cheap food and it's mostly vegan. The owners are funny, chatty and passionate about the food. I had the vod and chips and my boyfriend had tandoori vicken both was amazing. Chips are like proper chippy chips without the grease and the tandoori is super tasty without using yoghurt. Get the curry sauce too!

Pros: cheap , tasty, lot of choice

best fast food in UK

this fast food is very far from centre, but it was worth it. it was typical fast food. we liked it very much. the staff was very nice and friendly. they had many options of vegan food (pizza, burgers, fish and chips....). we had vegan pizza with sausage, meat and cheese. it was very peppery, but good.

Pros: price

Cons: far from centre, they didn't have a toilet

fish and chips were unreal

Amazing food!! I had Donner Kebab and 2 chicken legs and my partner had a battered "Vod" and oh my god the Vod tasted so much like fish he actually got scared and went to ask if it's vegan hahhaa the chicken legs also fooled me, the texture was like chicken breast! Kebab was okay, tasty but not the same texture as actual kebab. We can't wait to go back, the staff were super friendly and explained what each food was made from and they were really friendly.

Pros: fish, chicken, lamb, beef, kebab plus pizzas and w

Top Notch Food

The guys that run the shop are brilliant and that makes for a very enjoyable experience. The place is clean with seating for 10 or more. The food is great and reasonable priced. I tried the fish & chips, small donner and a pizza with Vegan cheese - total price £15. It is amazing how real the food looks!

Pros: Great food, Friendly Staff, Good value

Cons: No t-shirts for sale

Amazing traditional chip shop food with mainly vegan menu

This place is amazing. It's layout is the same as your typical British chip shop and you're spoilt for choice with the menu. I had vod and chips with curry sauce and it was super affordable and amazing quality. They do real chips instead of fries which is a big plus! I'm definitely coming back to try their vegan pizzas. To top it off the owner Vijay is lovely and super passionate about his business and veganism. Highly recommended for everyone 😊

Pros: lots of vegan options , owner is very passionate about the cause

Well worth the visit.

I found this place by accident and hadn't seen the reviews on here, so I went with the expectation of a hipster joint in an unhip city. The reality was so much better - a local shop for local people in a rundown part of town.

The food was great, the guy running it lovely and engaging. I'm just glad it's not my local as my body wouldn't thank me. It's the best deep-fried experience I've had since becoming vegan.

Pros: Great food., Friendly owner.

Cons: Daily visits wouldn't be healthy.

Wonderful!

Absolutely love this little gem. It has exactly what you need from a chippy. Affordable, great food and really helpful and friendly staff. Probably a good thing I was visiting from out of town or I would have gone through the whole menu.
Will definitely be making a return visit when I'm back this way.

Pros: Proper chip shop food without the animals., Affordable, Lovely staff

Unique - great if you like mock meat

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first vegetarian ‘fish and chip’ shop in the country, run by friendly locals. Serves vegetarian versions of the kinds of dishes you’d expect to find in any English chippy. The chips are very good, but in my opinion the main attractions are the pasties, masala ‘fish’ and ‘chicken’ drumsticks (made from soy). Most of the dishes are vegan.

Don’t expect a fancy restaurant – this is a fast-food takeaway in a dingy part of town (Hockley area) specialising in deep-fried comfort food. But if you like mock-meat, this is a fun (and unique) place to visit for greasy treats. The food is cheap – for example, pies and pasties cost between £2 and £3 each.

Pros: Very cheap, Friendly staff, Huge menu containing all chip shop classics

Cons: Not great for a sit-down meal
