Lovely country restaurant/bar with great range of vegan options - Edit
Located in the heart of the New Forest, The Swan Inn is an old English style country bar and restaurant that impressed us when we went for Saturday summer lunch. It has an extensive range of plant-based options. This forward-thinking establishment offers excellent vegan mains, light bites, snacks, and starters.
For starters, the sweet potato falafel was great, the Earth burger for mains was delicious and definitely not a ‘token vegan option’.
For desert, we indulged in a luxurious biscuit cheezecake with kream, a vegan crumble with custard, and a vegan biscuit sundae with ice cream – all were outstanding. Their vegan salads, coleslaw, and cheeze options are fresh and flavourful.
The atmosphere is charming, with a great beer garden, friendly staff, and a clean environment. The Swan Inn also boasts a good range of beers, all at reasonable prices. This is a must-visit for vegans and food enthusiasts alike.
Pros: Good value, Great vegan choice & quality, Lovely location & Friendly staff
Cons: None

Average food expensive prices - Edit
Some vegan options. Chips are vegetarian only, although there are no fried cheese options so I would guess the chips aren’t veggie either.

Chips aren’t vegan - Edit
Nice atmosphere in a pub with modern decor. Helpful staff.
Read moreWe went for the Signature salad, which the barman called house salad. It sounded great;quinoa, peas, broccoli, snap peas, rocket, spinach, slow-roasted dried tomatoes and dressing. We thought it might be warm but it was a cold salad with only 1 snap pea, no peas, no broccoli and a couple of sun dried tomatoes. We asked if we had the right thing and the helpful staff brought out broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes for us. It is the same salad as the side salad that is recommended to replace chips. Another time will go for another of the options.
Pros: Not expensive , Tasty, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Salad was not as expected but it might have been , they didn’t have all the ingredients

They are vegan. It just isn’t put as vegan on the menu. We checked with the manager and chef. They have a dedicated fryer and are careful not to cross over.

Lovely pub - Edit
We found this pub on Happy Cow and picked it as it said a separate vegan menu. Unfortunately on the day we visited there wasn’t a separate menu available but I had the choice of a burger, chick pea stew or vegan fish and chips. The vegan fish was lovely and I really enjoyed the meal.

Just not good. - Edit
This place has such potential and they really do want to offer vegan options but we got 3 of their vegan dishes (I think there are only 5 total?) and all 3 were not good at all. It was a complete flop and especially unfortunate as it is a generous walk from the high street. I recommend The Greenwood Tree, it's not great but they have more options and the food is at least decent.

Awful meal - Edit
I had the sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry and it looked nothing like the previous pictures on here. They used bruised looking standard potatoes, not even sweet potatoes, no peanut garnish, no lime wedges as advertised. Barely any spinach and just slopped next to the rice. I'm not one to complain but this was pure laziness. Basically chickpeas and peanut butter. Not worth the £14. Refund was given but such a wasted visit.

Fantastic vegan friendly pub - Edit
Had a lovely late breakfast, which they kindly made for us despite the kitchen not being open at that point. We requested a vegan breakfast and they put together a lovely meal for us, at a very reasonable price. Brilliant for vegans. The pub was also great for our three dogs.

Lovely country pub, excellent service, limited vegan options - Edit
We went to this pub after reading the Happy Cow description of 'extensive vegetarian and vegan options'. We were disappointed to get there and find 1vegan starter (soup) and 2 vegan choices on the main menu - a sandwich and a Thai red curry.
Read moreHowever, I headed to the bar to order and the waitress was so nice and acommodating and (I think....) excited to leverage the vegan menu, I forgot about our disappointment very quickly.
The leek and potato soup arrived and was one of the best soups I've had - delicious!! The bread on the side came with a vegan margarine too.
We both ordered the sandwich which had avocado and a mango chutney. I liked it because it was an unusual choice but my partner didn't. We had a tailor made sandwich and crisps for LO and he seemed very happy.
Great space for kids with high chairs, room to navigate the pram and a small playground outside (for big toddlers not young ones). Separate changing toilet with loads of room.
Pros: Leek and potato soup, Great staff, Cosy atmosphere but spacious for kids
Cons: Few vegan options

Absolutely FANTASTIC visit for vegans & everyone! - Edit
We have been to the Swan inn twice now in 4 days! It’s been absolutely fantastic both times, half our party is vegan & I have to say their vegan menu is beyond amazing, about 12-15 vegan options with 3 amazing vegan desserts too! The staff were beyond lovely, super attentive & I have to say we’ve been to some “fancy” restaurants here in new forest and none lived up to the nights we’ve had in the swan inn. I honestly can not recommend it enough! Everyone loved it, and we’ll be back again before we go!

Lots of vegan home made options - Edit
Don’t be put off by the menu on the website, The Swan offers a vegan menu blackboard with seven or more home made options and that doesn’t even include the puddings. They could not be friendlier or more helpful and it’s really nice to find somewhere caters for vegans enthusiastically. When Sybil the landlady found out it was our anniversary the next day she insisted on making us a special chick pea and red pepper burger, needless to say it was delicious.

Came here last night and was surprised with what vegan options they had. The had several choices on the black board and made to feel very welcome on arrival. Warm, cosy country pub just outside of Lyndhurst. Worth going back for the fire and tasty food! :)

Good little find - Edit
While cycling in the New Forest chanced upon this pub. On entering went to check the menu and was disappointed to see nothing suitable. Luckily the barman caught me just as I was heading out and made me aware that they had a whole load of vegan dishes on the blackboard. My gosh what a surprise it then was to see the blackboard with it’s listings of 7 or more clearly labelled vegan options. We both opted for the tofu and sweet potato pie which was outstanding as well as a bruschetta. Highly recommend
