The limited vegan options are not all vegan

This is a cute pub, with friendly staff - however, it’s not a great place to be a vegan!

I ordered the pasta of the day - the only main course marked as vegan. It arrived covered in cheese, and I asked if I could double check that the cheese was vegan. The (lovely!) waitress took the pasta back to the kitchen to ask, then brought it back, saying the chef said the cheese was vegetarian, ‘Is that ok?’. I said that no, if the cheese contained milk I wouldn’t eat it, as I was vegan, and didn’t eat eggs or dairy. She then said - ‘Oh, I think the pasta actually has egg in it as well - let me check’, went away again, and then returned to confirm that there was indeed egg in the pasta. I said, ‘But the menu says it’s vegan’, and she was very apologetic, and went back and forth to the kitchen several more times to see what I could have - the options were soup with no bread (the bread had egg in it), or a salad with several non-vegan ingredients removed for £15. I went with the soup, which was tasty, but arrived so hot, I didn’t have time to finish it before the show we were about to see.

They didn’t charge me for my meal at all, which I did appreciate - but I did leave hungry and a little grumpy! My meat-eating companion enjoyed his meal, so it may be a nice place for omnivores, or maybe even vegetarians (the cheese-covered, eggy pasta did look very tasty, and was beautifully presented), but not for vegans.

Good vegan options for a pub

I had a celebration with friends at this pub and was very surprised with the good vegan options, there is only one main and a dessert but both delicious! Much better than just chips
