Read moreI had the shredded ‘beef’ in OK sauce which isn’t on the menu but they can do it upon request, simply to die for. Accompanied with that we had the ‘Pork’ Char Siu, Shittake & Tofu rice and the fried noodles, absolutely everything we had was perfect. The service was second to none, we were looked after all night, water continuously topped up if it was even a little empty and to top it off a free pot of ice cream was brought to the table for my partners birthday! Make sure you go here if you’re anywhere near York, you’ll regret it otherwise. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We booked a table online & were sat promptly. The food was delicious, my non vegan husband really enjoyed the meal! Everything we had was really tasty, & fresh tasting. I’m not a fan of meat replacement so I had the Tom Kha soup & Tofu, both were delicious. We shared broccoli & the noodles, and husband had Mongolian “beef”, a bit too meaty looking for me but very tasty. Definitely worth a visit!

My partner and I visited the Orchid on our weekend trip to York. We always try to visit vegan establishments where we can. Really glad we managed to get a last minute reservation for this place. There's so much choice so multiple visits are encouraged! We absolutely loved the salt and pepper tofu starter and the vegan house special in the Szechuan sauce. Mouthwatering! Definitely want to try the duck pancakes on our next visit. 😋 Didn't get five stars as my partner and I would have liked to see a bigger beer and wine selection, and the staff forgot our prawn crackers with the soup (though this was quickly rectified!)

Really wanted to dine in at the Orchid whilst staying in York but felt like there was nothing the kids would eat so got takeout for two and fed kids something else.
Read moreRestaurant is all vegan and Chinese. Had General TSO spicy 'beef' with fried noodles. Absolutely delicious, could have eaten twice! Big portions too although perhaps a little more expensive than your local Chinese.
Wife had broccoli, spring onion and 'prawns' in oyster sauce - wasn't that keen.
Wish I hadn't gone with spring roll starter as they were 'straight out of freezer into fryer'. Wish I had gone for something more interesting.
Online delivery very easy and super quick. If I lived in York suspect I would be here every week though! Only downside is that the menu focuses on 'mock meats' and it feels like an opportunity missed to be a little more diverse.

So happy that we chose this place for dinner during our trip! Everything is vegan so no need to scan the menu. We had crispy ‘prawn’ style crackers!! They were delicious! Everything is delicious and not greasy. Loved the abundance of mushrooms and there are veggies in most of the dishes. If you miss the texture of squid, you must try the calamari starter.

I don't usually go for "fake meat" as I don't like the taste and texture but I thought my meat eating partner might like this place. It was our first meal out in over a year (thanks to Covid) so we were very excited to try something new when visiting York. We both LOVED our meals. I had Salt and Pepper Tofu followed by Stir Fry Mixed Vegetables with Garlic. He had the Cumin Vegan Lamb Skewers and Sweet and Sour Vegan King Prawn.
Read moreThe staff were lovely and the decor and music made it a really relaxed experience. The only thing I would add is if you are also not a fan of fake meat then the menu is a bit limited so take a look online before you go to check it has something you will enjoy.

I came here twice during my holiday in York, and this place is just outstanding. Great service, great, authentic atmosphere, and incredible food. I had General Tso's Vegan Chicken and the Sweet and Sour Vegan King Prawn. Both were amazing, great value for money. Their rice is just how rice should be. Portion sizes are appropriate.

I went here on my last night visiting York and I wish I found this place sooner. The staff were so lovely and attentive. Got to be the best vegan meal I have had in restaurant and shows that vegan food is more than just a salad! Would definitely recommend this place. Plenty of options especially for omnivores and picky vegans.

Staff were so nice and friendly. Food was great and reasonably priced. Between 3 we ordered spring rolls, gyozas, salt and pepper tofu, mushroom toast, crispy beef, shiitake mushrooms and asparagus, shiitake rice and fried noodles. For dessert had lotus slice, Jaffa cake and Irish coffee. Everything was great! Lotus slice was to die for!

In all my travels I’ve never come across a place like this before. You will definitely get your Chinese fix here. I had the lions main ‘prawn toast’, ‘Calamari’, ‘king prawn’ fried rice, lemon ‘chicken’ and crispy chilli ‘beef’. Cannot recommend the restaurant enough and I’m mind blown with the taste and texture, very well done. Good service and covid safe!

I set up a happy cow account just to give this restaurant a good review... It is honestly simultaneously the best vegan AND chinese food I’ve ever had. The staff were very nice, prices are incredibly reasonable, and the quality and portion sizes of the food are both immaculate. I had the opportunity to enjoy meals that I really miss as a non-meat eater. This was an all-round great experience. I would take a trip to York just to eat here again😄I would highly recommend the lamb skewers, duck pancakes, and black bean chicken with shitaake fried rice. 11/10!

My wife and I visited this restaurant this evening was we thought we’d died and gone to Heaven! The welcome from the staff was both genuine and uplifting.. We had drinks and two starters which were mind blowing. Absolutely fantastic!! The mushroom toast and cumin kebabs were gorgeous..
