Bad salad, non vegan chips - Edit
Got the burger, no chips because they said they weren’t vegan, so it came with a salad for approx $30. A grain of salt, because yes Northern beaches prices, but that doesn’t explain why this salad is 50% parsley and 40% lettuce. Sad salad. Burgers okay but not worth it.

Great water views for outdoor drinks, expensive and limited vegan options - Edit
The Newport (most people still call it the ‘Newport Arms’) has amazing views over Pittwater Bay and ample outdoor seating, also undercover for shade in summer. It is certainly the best venue around here to enjoy some scenic drinks outdoors and it has the typical Merivale modern vibe. You won’t find a drinking spot with better water views around here except the various surf clubs which are only open on Fridays and Sundays. This place is open all day, every day, very popular and usually very busy so reserve ahead if you want a table right by the water or if you’re coming as a group. With that said, even without a reservation, my husband and I always find a seat.

Unfortunately they have very limited vegan options which always surprises me given how popular this venue is and how busy it is with families, couples and youngsters alike. They also have a kids play area. It’s massive. Super popular for NYE too because one can see the fireworks over Pittwater Bay from here.
The vegan options are limited to a vegetarian burger that can be ordered with a vegan bun (surcharge) and the side of chips needs to be changed to salad (unfortunately the chips aren’t vegan because of the fryer - you can definitely smell that the chips are cooked together with the chicken wings or whatever meat and they look yellowish so don’t try them). The menu changes a bit every time but lately includes a vegan salad option and some of the sides are vegan too (not the chips!), the pizzas can be ordered without cheese to be made vegan.
The food is decent enough but pretty expensive for what it is, I think it’s a lot better for the non vegan options - judging by what my husband eats, the normal pizzas and seafood look fine.
I certainly recommend the place to enjoy a few drinks with a view and when you get peckish, have the above vegan options but I wouldn’t come here specifically to eat - it’s a great place for drinks with a view. So if you come with that mindset, you will have a great time!
Pros: Great water views and atmosphere , Drinks , DJ, cool music in the background
Cons: Limited vegan options , Expensive
