Hearty food

They seemed to have changed the menu from the last reviews , I had a banana curry and my boyfriend had an aubergine tagine and they were both delicious, the staff was really nice too. It was clearly cooked freshed too!

Excellent vegan scran

Delicious vegan and vegetarian pub food in a lovely country pub. Hearty portions and gorgeous puddings too! We all enjoyed our meal and my husband said it was the best pub vegan burger he'd ever had. Well worth the short drive in the countryside, and such great change from the usual meat-only menus round here. We'll be back.

Pros: Good value for money, plenty of choice

Cons: Some starters had run out due to menu change

Unexpected delight!

I was visiting family in the north east and came across this little gem. Not expecting a vegan menu in a pub in the rural north Pennines I was absolutely amazed at the options, quality, portions and price of the meal! Real decent pub food made vegan (not just a salad option). Oh and the dessert... AMAZING, I had the chocolate and coconut tart with ice cream and it would rival any non-vegan dessert. The staff were friendly, the views amazing AND they do vegan beer and wine. 10/10 Needs a 5 star rating!

Delicious food for everyone!

We tried the vegan burger and vegan Wellington and they were so nice! They came with delicious chips as well as homemade colslaw and onion rings with the burger. The photos I’ve added don’t quite do the meal justice as I decided to take them after we had started eating...

They also had a selection of sauces etc including vegan mayo which tasted great with the burger.

They had a plant based menu so all vegetarian with all the vegan and gluten free things labelled so it was really easy to see what was suitable and there was a huge selection.

Pros: Lovely staff, Amazing selection of vegan and gluten free food

Great vegan/veggie choices in this lovely country pub

Great choice of vegan and vegetarian meal options in this lovely village pub in the Allen Valley. Quality of food was good, as were portion sizes. Also vegan/vegetarian starters and deserts - and vegan beers! Although the pub does serve meat dishes too, this is a massively welcome development for an area not renowned for its eating-out options for vegans and vegetarians. Good service and friendly staff too.

Pros: Great choice of vega and veggie options, good quality , great location

Spoilt for choice

Found this little "jewel in the crown" by chance whilst staying in the area. Wonderful surroundings incredible fresh menu and lots for us vegetarians, not just the token jesture of a vegetable risotto or lasagne as an afterthought.
Many many vegetarian and vegan options witnin a comprehensive - cater for all menu! I was [unusually] impressed and "spoilt for choice". Stayed much longer than originally anticipated, good food, good real ale and good company. Well done...

Cons: Not all real ale truly vegan

Fantastic all round.

Such a lovely country pub with fantastic views, couldn't really ask for anything better. It's so refreshing to find a place that caters so well for everyone. A great and wide selection of different and freshly cooked vegan food made to order (also non vegan options available). With a choice of local beers and ales.
All served by very helpful and friendly staff.

Will be visiting many more times to make my way through the rest of the menu!

Pros: Fantastic selection of food for everyone, Not trying to be something extra special, Friendly and relaxed atmosphere

Cons: Not fully Vegan/Vegetarian

Excellent Food. Great Views

Was recommended this pub by a friend. We had the jackfruit and vegan burger. Both were delicious and views to die for. Staff were very helpful and informative about the menu.

Good. Nice bar staff

Really good selection of veggie and vegan food. All food came out looking gorgeous and tasted out of this world, I’d definitely come back to try the jackfruit shwarma, it looked amazing!! Bar staff were great and very friendly

Would recommended to anyone in or around the area. And if from afar... it’s worth the journey!!!

Something for everyone.

With a fantastic, cosy, traditional atmosphere and wonderful homemade grub to match, The Crown really doesn't have a comparable competitor in the local area when it comes to their menus. Due to their 50/50, delicious offering I truly believe they are a five star venue (but can only give them four due to HappyCow's rating system - sorry guys!)

Would thoroughly recommend a trip to The Crown no matter your preference.
