No Longer Vegetarian Friendly - Edit
The menu changed in 2022 and the restaurant is no longer accepting vegetarian or vegan customers. Currently, previous reviews on Happy Cow are at least 4 years old from 2020 and are no longer applicable.
Read moreI emailed the restaurant for a reservation. They said that, although they technically have some vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, they rejected our reservation because they do not cater to herbivores. There is no longer a 7 course vegan meal. At least one person in the party has to order meat. They also have a minimum charge amount that is not possible due to the vegetarian sides being so cheap.
Pros: Teppanyaki
Cons: Vegetarians are not welcome, Requires an order of meat, Difficult to get reservations

Wonderful small restaurant with a 6-7 course vegan price fixe/set dinner - and awesome saki tasting flights. Just saying, go with the Kyoto local stuff.

The restaurant has a nice decoration, great staff that speaks English fine. I had the Kyoto - style Okonomiyaki for some 1300 yens, and it was delicious and good sauced.

Best Vegan Meal in Kyoto - Edit
We spent two weeks in Kyoto and tried many restaurants serving vegan/vegetarian food and Oagari was, hands down, the one serving the best vegan meal. We selected the vegan option meal for two for 5200 yen and it was worth every yen. They serve 6-7 courses, all spaced apart so you can enjoy each one separately. This was the only restaurant where we could find vegan okonomiyaki, a pancake filled with vegetables and noodles that you find at festivals and street stalls. If I could give 5 stars I would!
