Internationally inspired plant-based food - Edit
Tardes is a bar that also offers a small menu of freshly prepared vegan cuisine taking its inspirations from around the world. We had the Korean pancake and a Mediterranean wrap, both of which were very quite satisfying as a light meal.
Read moreThe only thing that didn’t suit us is that there is a policy of minimum one drink per customer, which is fine for a bar, but for customers who don’t drink alcohol there are very limited options to meet that requirement and we wound up paying for simple non-alcoholic drinks that we didn’t particularly enjoy. For this reason only, we probably wouldn’t go out of our way to return. But the food itself was good, and the service was kind.

Very small but lovely restaurant, where the chef acts as the waiter too, with a varied menu. Excellent food and ambience, and very nice wine and beer!

Came here on a date and really appreciated the nice ambience and delicious vegan dishes. The spring rolls were the highlight! Also enjoyed the white wine as well.

We stumbled upon this cafe through happy cow and are so glad we found it! They’ve been open for 2 months and curate everything with care. They might be a wine bar but the food is really delicious and prepared with fresh organic ingredients. It’s run by a sweet vegan couple and they do everything themselves! We tried the mapo tofu and the macaroni gratin. Both were satisfying and delicious.
Read moreThey have a menu on the blackboard and you can check out their Instagram for images of the food. They will walk you through the available options. Small menu but everything was tasty! They brought out a couple of small bite appetizers on the house for us which were also tasty.
FYI: You need to order a beverage. We tried the ginger ale. Plenty of alcohol and non-alcoholic options. They take reservations which we didn’t make so we sat at the bar…which was lovely because we got to chat with the owners. Could be worth reserving though if you want a table. Cash only.
Worth going for delicious food, cool vibes, and to support a new vegan restaurant & wine bar!
Kind of easy to miss from the street, their signage is very small on their door so look closely and you’ll find it. ☺️

I was worried they might serve tiny overpriced portions because it is listed as a wine bar. This was not the case. The portions had a good size and my mapo tofu was super tasty. Prices seem normal for Kyoto. We got free appetizers (possibly because the place is new), which were also really good. Forgot to take pictures, but there are some from others on Google Maps.

Exactly what we were looking for - Edit
It seems like the menu changes (no printed menu, instead there is a blackboard). Our meals were delicious, portion sizes were good and the people here were really friendly. Highly recommended!
