Mozuku tempura top!

After hiking on the Kyoto trail for hours, a break here was just what we needed. The set I ordered was delicious, especially the tempura and the broccoli! The miso soup was also tasty and so the cabbage with the miso dressing. Cherry on top: the choco banana cake😄The restaurant is nice and spacious: they could accommodate us immediately.

Pros: Spacious and comfortable , Nice atmosphere

Tasty Taco rice

A lovely attention to dressing and colors on the plate. The soy meats were really flavorful. The banana tart was simple but delicious.

Amazing vegan options

My favorites are the curly fries and vegan taco rice! Lovely ambience and staff too. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat out in Kyoto.

Tasty food and cosy ambiance

This is a very nice restaurant located near the university of Kyoto. A couple of pages in the menu are dedicated to vegan and vegetarian meals, so it is easy to find orientation. The waitress was also aware of vegan public. The food was very tasty. We ate a rice bowl with grape seaweed and a mixed plate.

Pros: Dedicated menu pages, Tasty food, Okinawan seaweed ;-)

Vegan set, and other vegan or vegetarian options

On Omadegawadori just a two or three blocks from the intersection with Shiragawadori in the Kyoto University district , the Okinawan restaurant Goya Asian Chample has a friendly , casual atmosphere and serves some vegan or vegetarian options for lunch and dinner. Open for lunch 11:30-16:00; dinner 17:30-23:00. Prices are reasonable & portions are generous ; there's a one drink requirement with dinner.

We had a dinner and a lunch at Goya; the vegan Nasi set -- a generous sampling of miso soup, adzuki bean rice, curry shredded cabbage, sweet & sour eggplant , tofu and Asian greens, burdock & lotus root. For dinner we put together a number of vegan options--large green salad, grilled tofu , black rice, vegan appetizer platter.

The staff understands vegan& vegetarian restrictions , and each time we were asked if cheese, egg or dashi were OK.

There's a vegan banana tart on the menu, vegetarian taco rice, several vegetarian desserts, wine, beer, coffee, tea, Okinawa spirits and juices.
Most of the menu is devoted to traditional Okinawa meat-based fare , but the restaurant is veg-friendly , comfortable and reasonably priced..

It's easy to find on Omadegawadori , across from a Lawson's mart, with colorful signs and a menu board on the sidewalk.

super relaxed spot with great food

The food was good here but I'd go back mainly for the lovely friendly atmosphere and great music that was playing. I had a dish which they turned vegan ( vegan dishes clearly marked on menu and waiter doubled checked too). It was very tasty and there were lots of other things I would have loved to try on the menu too. And as I was leaving the guy gave me a set of chopsticks from Okinawa as well, so a great experience all around!

Pros: vibe

Cozy with various dishes

The Vegan options are written really clearly. Not sure about the vegetarian ones though.
Cozy atmosphere, was a bit busy today - so no real interaction with the staff.
Had the "Spicy Vege Goreng" delicious, spicy - but not too spicy. The dishes seem to be small to medium size.
You're forced to take something to drink, plus there is also a hidden table/service fee of 100 Yen.

Pros: Wide selection of dishes, Cozy

Cons: In Summary: There are much cheaper places close by

warm and cosy

The curly fries were great. Got a vegan set not sure what it was called but it came with boiled tofu which was plain but interesting. Along side rice and a small serve of some curried vegetables. Nice place to stop by if you are in the area.

Vegetarian Okinawan Food!

Goya isn't a veg restaurant, but they do have a vegetarian menu. They also ask customers if they eat milk/cheese or are strict vegan. There are even vegan cakes on the desert menu.
I tried the taco rice - a famous Okinawan meal - just because I've always wanted to try it and never seen a vegetarian version. It was made with soy meat. So-so.
My wife had the set menu and it was much more interesting. A few kinds of veg, a bit of gluten, and some Okinawan tofu. Lunch meals are all Y880.
The restaurant itself is an a quaint, old wooden building, just a few minutes walk East of Kyoto University.

One of my favorites

Really like this place, been here several times, once I even got a pair of free chopsticks. :D They have a very interesting and varied menu with vegetarian choices, I recommend going several people so you can order several dishes and share. The one downside might be the music: they can be playing traditional Okinawan music befitting of the setting, and then suddenly they switch to a jazz-version of "Let's Get Physical" or something similar, a bit strange if you ask me, but that might just be Japan for you. :D
