Huge delicious portions and options aplenty - Edit
Lunch in Taos on our ski trip. We knew about PBC and have been looking forward to visiting since booking our trip months ago. Lovely location just off the main strip, slightly odd setting inside but plenty of comfortable seating. Menu is huge in a classic American style - so much choice of various differing types. Not sure you could go wrong but we chose Buffalo Cauliflower to share before then going for the Mushroom Green Chile Cheeseburger(on sourdough bread, wi Jack cheez and the veggie patty) and the Enchiladas(Xmas Chile, Chorizo) - It was all excellent, well prepared and presented. Delicious and would satisfy most appetites not only us Veegs. Cost was around $50 wi 2 soft drinks. Will definitely visit again before we leave.

Worth mentioning that what was the Plant Based Cafe is now Taos Cafe, they still have a few vegan options but the menu has changed a lot and it’s no longer really worth visiting.

Sad to hear about this change. I visited in January and was thrilled to find this place with all of its excellent vegan food. That's the breaks, I guess.

Ate here every day! - Edit
Wow, what a pleasant discovery in Taos! One of the best restaurant experiences we've had in recent memory. We were visiting for a few days in January 2023 and decided to try Plant Base on the recommendation of our Airbnb host. When I saw the extensive menu I was skeptical that every item would be well executed, but we tried many items and everything was delicious.
Read moreI loved that you could choose from an extensive list of proteins and vegan cheeses to customize your omelet. Some of the items we ordered and liked were omelets made with Just Egg, french toast, breakfast potatoes, smoothies, grilled cheese, and lasagna. The coffee was good, too. Despite that long list, there were so many other things we wished we'd had time to try.
The employees are very helpful and kind. The staff doesn't seem large (we saw two FOH staff members at most, and usually only one), but that considered, our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. On the first day we were there, the woman working told us they were dog-friendly in their heated patio tent, so from then on out, we dined there every day with our pup.
Their website says they are temporarily closed for repairs and new menu development. I could see where they'd want to pare down the menu a bit for operational efficiency, but I sure hope they keep most of the excellent breakfast items and that terrific lasagna.

Pros: Excellent food execution, wonderful staff, dogs welcome in the patio tent

Vegan Food next to the Plaza - Edit
Plant Base Cafe was exactly what we needed in Taos. A new place that serves fully Vegan food that was also delicious. I was able to get three separate proteins for my three amazing breakfast tacos. The salad was fantastic and all around the patio was great vibes. And plus, it’s right next to the free public parking lot and next to the Taos Plaza!

Amazing vegan food! I was so grateful for this restaurant when I visited Taos. - Edit
All vegan. They have an extensive menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just Egg omelet was incredible as were the burritos. Your choice of vegan cheese and protein with whatever you order. The wedding I attended even had the rehearsal dinner there and they made a special menu for the event. Great owners, great people. I wish I had one in my home town.

Phenomenal! - Edit
The menu is so extensive and changes often. Everything is so fresh and delicious it’s difficult to decide what to order. The tacos are fantastic and the mushroom pizza is sinful. The space is really peaceful and located right off the plaza. Friendly staff is a bonus!

Eating clean is delicious - Edit
We are so excited to have this option to enjoy a meal out! Their Portobello fries are delightful. The truffle fries are yummy as well! They have a lovely patio and feature live music and they are dog and kid friendly. They have a coloring station for the kids. Great desserts, including the churros with chocolate dipping sauce.

Full vegan, full flavor - Edit
Really tasty food, all homemade—even the hot sauces! The owner is incredibly kind & clearly pours his heart into the food. Enjoyed the BLT, breakfast scramble, and the portobello fries quite a bit! Can’t wait to try other entrees, especially now that they’re open for dinner

Really Enjoyed this Option! - Edit
Went on a long-planned trip to Taos, Mexico and saw that it just so happened to line up with the early dates this place was open.
Read moreIt’s located in what I would consider to be the “Main Street” near the square in Taos. Arrived at the place and to my delight they have their own parking, at the height of tourist season (or so I was told) there is still plenty of parking in the area if you wish to walk to the restaurant.
It’s all counter service where you order and pay then get a number/buzzer when your food is ready. It’s then brought out to you though. The menu had like at least 5 pages of options ranging from breakfast, Mexican, Italian and American options. I had the breakfast burrito pictured with the restaurant pics and my partner had the breakfast plate.
I’m not gluten free but it was nice that so many questions were asked by the staff to see that our food would meet dietary restrictions if that were the case. We only care about vegan options, and ours were very tasty.
Our only major criticism from 2 visits there were on the breakfast plate the potatoes could have been cooked a little longer.
The breakfast burrito was delicious, I had it with the “Christmas sauce” which is a mix of red and green sauce. The red sauce was a bit on the spicier side, but I enjoyed it. The breakfast plate was very filling. The only thing I didn’t take a pic of was the queso flameado appetizer with the lentil chorizo, but that was very tasty as well.
My partner and I tried burgers our second time we made it out there . They have an option for a beyond patty or a veggie house patty. I had the house patty for the tostada burger and it was tasty, kind of tasted like a chorizo patty.
Overall Taos has a great option here. It’s going to be a nice treat for traveling vegans or anyone looking for a healthier option.
