Ok, but not sure about the hype - Edit
We had heard A LOT about this place..but, we were slightly disappointed after our visit. The food we got was nice enough, but the restaurant was kind of dirty - thick layers of dust on everything. And there was one point where we asked for something to be made vegan rather than the default vegetarian, and the waiter said "everything's vegan" which was really confusing because it's clearly a mostly vegetarian restaurant. It worries me that they don't know the difference.

Tasty but expensive! - Edit
The food was really nice very fresh but not worth the hefty price tag in my opinion.
Read moreThe interior was very unique and nicely decorated though and I think everything can be made vegan on the menu if it isn’t already.
Be warned they don’t do takeaway boxes so bring your own if you’re like me and like to take leftovers home!

A great place - Edit
A great location and good food, in a pleasant place. Tasty, though not necessarily authentic. While there is a bilingual menu, none of the staff seem to speak Chinese.

Cons: Service fee added to final bill, so not cheap.

Beautiful cooking - Edit
The food is top notch and not only do they offer lots of vegan option, there are quite a few gluten free ones as well. The dishes are pretty unusual so a lot of thought must have been put into them. I had the sheet tofu main and it came with shredded tofu. A new one on me. It was lovely and very big. They really know how to cook here.

Amazing food - Edit
This place was a great find. The vegan dishes were great, especially the tofu sheet noodles. Service and staff were brilliant and the veggie dumplings are the best I've eaten.

Nice veggie Chinese - Edit
I've enjoyed eating here a number of times.
Read moreHas an extensive menu with a number of vegan options.
Quite a small seating area inside, but it works, has cute decor.
Sad to read some of the reviews about the manager/owner, but not particularly surprised.
Pros: The food
Cons: Could make more of their menu vegan

Tasty vegetarian Chinese food, great location - Edit
Right in the centre of Bristol, Suyuan is a nice vegetarian restaurant with a good selection of vegan options. We had our evening meal here, sitting outside in the evening sun, very pleasant! Quite quiet and tucked away.
Read moreFood was tasty although portions were a little on the small size and certainly not a budget price. I'd still return for a second visit though.
Pros: Tasty food, Great location
Cons: not completely vegan, Not the cheapest restaurant I've ever eaten in!

Deserving of the praise - Edit
I echo the sentiments of the positive reviews on here.
Read moreAuthentic flavours, very attentive staff, comfortable dining room.
Standout dishes include:
° Suyuan guo shui mian 素缘过水面 - Home style noodles served with sauted green beans, shredded cucumber, garlic sauce & peanut butter sauce.
° Xiang jian fu pi juan 香煎腐皮卷 - Pan fried dry bean curd roll filled with carrot, onion, sprouts & mushroom.
Interesting drinks menu, particularly the tea selection.
Caveat:
• The food is often overly salty.
• The disharmony between FOH and the kitchen is, unfortunately, often palpable.

Rude manager - Edit
Was really looking forward to this place, but, when we arrived just before opening, we heard (presumably) the manager literally shouting and swearing at the staff. I didn’t know it was possible to get the Ick from a restaurant but ICK.

Hmmmmm 2.5/5 stars - Edit
I mean.....we ordered Jasmine rice expecting it to be the white fluffy rice that Jasmine rice normally is....but we got what we call "Red rice" or "Wild Rice" which is the horrible hard unfluffy kind of rice. Confirmed with the waiter if we got the right thing, we did apparently.
Read moreThe aubergine dish I enjoyed the textures of, but the flavour was just not quite there, it tasted like essence of ginger & garlic etc. Very oily too.
The fired tofu dish was better because of the tofu, everything else was ok, flavoured with essence of garlic, ginger and chilli oil etc.
Heard some shouting from the chef to a staff in the kitchen somewhere.
I liked the decor of the restaurant.

Where are your vegan/veggie values lol - Edit
Don't get me wrong, the food is excellent. Super authentic with awesome flavours that I definitely couldn't replicate in my own Asian home kitchen. But it seems like the manager(s) treat staff badly and are rude to some customers too. Isn't the whole point of being vegan to show kindness and compassion to all creatures?
Read moreDetails of 2 occasions:
1. Wanted to have early dinner there so me & my partner arrived around 6pm. The manager was shouting at her workers (who seem mostly to be migrant workers) despite customers waiting outside. She was shouting at them for a solid 20 mins & had aggressive body language too. We decided to eat somewhere else.
2. A friend ordered delivery but received the wrong order. They called up the restaurant and the manager (not sure if it's the same one) shouted at them and told them there's nothing they can do. I understand that restaurants get it wrong sometimes especially during peak hours, but I don't understand why this warranted verbal abuse?
NB: I respect people in the food industry and there are definitely more difficult customers than difficult small restaurant owners, but asking to treat your workers nicely is literally the bare minimum.

Klare Empfehlung - Edit

Very delicious, a lot to choose from - Edit
We had a delicious dinner here. Be sure to reserve a table if going there in the evening, we were lucky because we arrived very early but the place filled up quickly. Some options on the menu are not marked as vegan (like the noodle dishes) but in fact two of the noodle dishes are vegan, just ask the waiter.

A Succulent Chinese Meal - Edit
Really impressed here, we had a stir fried tofu dish and a plate of stuffed dumplings served with fragrant black jasmine rice. The fresh aromas of flash fried red chilli, garlic and ginger in the tofu dish were hugely apparent and the dumplings were crispy fried as requested instead of steamed. There is a good selection of teas and infusions here but you can BYOB so that’s what we’d do next time. Most dishes are vegan or can be made as vegan if requested. Just ask. Highly recommended.

Really lovely little place which is obviously popular due to how busy it was! Would recommend booking.
Read moreMore on the menu can be made vegan than advertised if you just ask 😊 I can't remember exact names but we had the spring onion pancakes, jasmine rice, cabbage dumplings (you can choose fried or steamed) that came with a lovely garlicky dip, noodles with peanut butter and garlic sauce, tofu with veg and ginger/garlic sauce.
Was all super tasty, not Chinese food like I'm used to that I guess is made more British for takeaways, full of fresh and five-spice type flavours. service was quick and friendly.
