Great food in small locally owned restaurant

We have eaten in Spice four times over the past 6 months. It is casual since you order at the counter but the rest of the meal is full serve. They deliver to your table and take away the dirty dishes before bringing the dessert. One of the best parts of this restaurant is they have lots of options for vegetarians plus, for those friends and family members who like to eat animal protein, they offer entrees for them, too.

I am fairly picky about my food and want low sodium, lots of veggies, and the food should not be swimming in fat. Oh, did I mention? It has to taste great, too. Last night I ordered the curried veggie rice bowl ($10), a side salad ($2), and the pineapple fritters with honey ($3.) I also shared the homemade tomato basil soup and garlic naan with my husband. Everything was delicious. I also recommend the butternut squash lentil cake with yellow chili. They will make your food however spicy you like. Since everything is made in house including the bread and salad dressing, you will discover dishes not found in the standard chains. The menu also includes gluten free options. Here is a link to an article in the local paper describing what inspired the owners to open this restaurant and how the chef's background: http://www.tahoedailytribune.com/northshore/9003898-113/carl-spice-dean-christa

Pros: Delicious freshly made food., Reasonable prices for Truckee., Many options for vegetarians.

Cons: Location - off the beaten track., Closed Sundays., Barebones decor but very clean
