Tasty vegan options

Though they have a few options, they’re pretty tasty wraps and sandwiches. And they have gluten free bread options.

I've been sissified

I get the FLT whenever I go and it's so good every time. Even when there was a lettuce contamination scare, Sissy's lettuce was squeaky clean. No diarrhea! :-)

The food is delicious every time I go, and the juices are super good. Always love to get the fresh green apple n cucumber. Makes me feel alive.

Would like more vegan options so I can eat more stuff though, but that's a given.

Great food, great atmosphere, great staff - great spot!

Pros: Vegan Bacon, Juices, Clean lettuce

Cons: Need more vegan stuff, Delivery would be nice, Should be even closer to my house

interesting brunch place

One day this previously untried vegetarian/vegan-friendly place turned out to be a great diner-like vegan brunch place for me, tucked away in an historic district with many small stores. The atmosphere took me out my routine as a visitor from another town. There were more vegan dishes available than I expected. This may turn out to be another 'sleeper' for many who thought they knew Hudson Valley vegetarian dining, I thought. Like an increasing number of places, this restaurant helpfully marks some vegan dishes as such. My first entrée here was a sandwich (sauerkraut was a high note); the salads also looked appealing on my first visit. A number of coffee choices and a very busy place in the middle of the day on that weekend visit.

I have been back many times since I wrote this review. I find it to have many dishes that work for me in various ways. For example, the Artists' Salad is an inexpensive vegan salad that can be customized with additions such as garbanzo beans and sprouts--a bounty of healthy plant-based ingredients to go with the standard purple cabbage, burst-in-your-mouth cherry tomatoes, etc. The café also makes juices and smoothies that are good. For coffee and smoothies, the restaurant fortunately offers almond milk that unfortunately in my opinion is not an unsweetened kind. (Why not just have separate sweetener available at the coffee station?) The sandwiches (including, for example, the vegan Vegan Sandwich and the Haven's Wrap) are in the best tradition of the New York deli. Some use a vegan mayo substitute that can be left out on request. The cafe; also sometimes has vegan soup options. The staff is used to health aficionados and vegans, as well as people who eat luncheon and breakfast meats. As a vegan, I think it helps to mention your preference.
Of the coffees, the darkly roasted Ring of Fire is one of the best darkly roast drip brews that I have tried in the region.
Update on smoothies: in recent visits, the restaurant has been inconsistent in its smoothies. It seems they are using a rather different recipe each time, and no warning or explanation was given. There were no off tastes, but the proportions seemed wildly different. This development bears watching as they are a leader in offering smoothies with simple recipes and healthy ingredients. They have been using an unsweetened variety of almond milk at times, a great development in my opinion.
Update: Maddeningly changeable in its hours in the Covid-19 era.

Pros: a creative touch, enjoyable, many healthy options

Cons: not 100 percent vegan or vegetarian, not publicly posting hours; no way to get updates, use of "regular" (i.e. sugared) vegan milk

Just to start some conversation here, I think they do not always ask if an order is "for here" or "to go" and I find I am often served in to-go containers when I intended to eat there. This happens when I order at the counter, which I do even when I am dining in. What is the intended procedure, Sissy's, if you are out there?

One of the restaurant's employees was able to explain the situation after I raised my question. It turns out that I find myself ordering at the counter rather than being seated because I like to pay at the register when I order, rather than after being served and eating. After being a customer for years, I essentially did not know this was the reason. My preference to pay in advance and hence order at the register makes it more difficult to be sure if I am dining in on a particular visit. When a party wants to eat there, they can always simply ask to be seated to make it clear to cafe personnel. In my case, that would lead to a situation in which it would be more difficult to pay when ordering. A recent visit with relatives in which we were bafflingly seated by wait staff brought the question to mind and led to this helpful answer from the restaurant.

Juices and Smoothies

Juices and Smoothies are essential veg fare. It just sucks that this place closes at 4 - you can't go there after work if you work a normal work day!!

Pros: Juice, Smoothie

Cons: Hours
